Sarah Ellerby vs Jennifer Chen (How would you rule?)

Phoebe - Your a great player and I miss you on tour. Your one of the best talents to have been on the wpba. What do you do with someone like this? If you reacted every single time you would be in an arguement or fight every day. Who wants to do that when they are trying to stay centered and focused? You just have to remember that they are threatened by you and that their actions, however disrespectful they may be, does not place you in a category beneath them.

I wish I could visit again. Maybe one day soon. How is Aki and how is the action?
:)

My 2 cents:

In 2003 when I played in a few WPBA tournaments, there was one in Canada - I forgot the name of the tourney....

I remember being on one of the 2 practice tables - Karen Corr was on the other one. Anyway, I was gearing up for my match - the current match on the table I was scheduled to be on was hill-hill. Sarah proceeds to walk in and just puts together her stick grabs the cue ball, throws out the rest of the balls, and starts shooting them in - I was eyeing a shot, just about to bend over and shoot it...I was like "Hello? Do you see me?" So I tell her if I could just hit a few more balls and I would be outta there cause I should be playing any minute now.....she looks at me and asks me if I'm playing in the tournament, or if I'm already out - because these tables are for players only. I'm like "duh, I just said I should be playing soon. She ignores me, places her stick on the table, then walks over to Karen and starts discussing something.

HOW RUDE!!!!! She got NO manners whatsoever. I felt completely stepped on and disrespected...but I noticed I had to get to my table....and just proceeded to leave. Everytime I saw her after that she just looked at me in this weird way...like I was nobody, like I was outta place.

What a B I T C H, terrible way to make a newcomer feel....to bad I never got to play her in any tourneys...I would have loved to have handed her ass to her.

I can totally believe what Jennifer said, allegedly, happened. I don't believe for one second that she would lie about something like that. I'm just amazed that Sarah would do her bully tactics to a veteran like Jennifer. I can see how she would feel superior enough to dis a newcomer, like she did me....but wow, actual physical contact....that is childish and shameful of her.

I feel for Jennifer, I hope justice is served on Sarah, her actions are horrible and deserve some kind of punishment. The WPBA could actually do without someone like that.

Phoebe,

I totally understand what you are saying. Maybe you could have just kept hitting balls with her stick still on the table. :grin-square:

Sarah E. is an alpha (she)male and bulldozes her way around newbies or preys on them like they are a speck of dust. She has no qualms about breaking rules if it will advance her in some way. Anyone who has played in the WPBA has seen it. Makes you wonder if she elbowed all the guys in the IPT to be the top-placing woman, lol. :groucho: In all my kajillion posts on here, I rarely ever speak unkindly about someone, but the facts stand.

Jennifer has always had a lot of class, even when she was embroiled in the gambling brouhaha, she admitted to her mistakes and rectified them. I have spent some time with her and know her to be fair. She would not make unprovoked allegations.

I hope this is dealt with fairly, but severely, and serves to educate players that above all, we are trying to show the world that we are not all backwoods bar players spoiling for a fistfight, but that our sport can be portrayed as a showcase of ETHICAL talent. This is so vital in gaining promotional support from corporate America. Just my .02

Your right Linda...I'll take the stairs off the table. People do trip though. Johnnyt

I'm glad to hear that most folks feel the same way about this.

I deliberately kept the title of this thread relatively low key because at the time, I really didn't know what to make of all of this.

Since we seem to have a concensus, if someone wants to start a different thread with a little more flare, by all means go right ahead.

Linda,
What I find confusing is the fact that on her website, she boasts about networking within corporate America to promote the game of pool. She has a lot of sponsors - how on earth do they not see any of this when it is occurring?

There are about a hundred or so players that I know personally that would better represent their products and the game.

I've seen this stuff happen plenty of times at various events. Its embarrassing to everybody involved, with Sarah being the exception. Its as if she believes she has a right to act this way.

I have heard that she has been suspended for one event - not sure if that is accurate, its just what I have been told. Personally, I don't think that is enough. I believe an open, public, sincere apology is in order to ALL of the members of the WPBA - along with anger management classes, etc.

The problem should be completely taken care of NOW to ensure that future incidents are prevented.

I would have politely picked up her cue and placed it in the cue rack on the wall and kept practicing...

Southpaw

The good thing is we have some great board members and they have heard from multiple players at the event about other encounters with Sarah. They have been encouraged to act stongly so that this will stop. On the more unfortunate side there may be some that want to "not believe everything they hear and keep an open mind" about sarah and the situation. In this situation the evidence and pattern of her behavior is unquestionably wrong and should be dealt with strongly.

Monica,

As you know, I have seen her behavior many times and I have sat there puzzled and dumbfounded... (one time literally shaking my head at the rudeness that she tossed towards Julie Kelly a few years ago down at the Hard Rock)

It would be understandable if these were isolated incidents - but what has taken so long to have this situation dealt with? Personally, I have seen it happening for the past 4-5 years - nonstop. Is there anything set up for the players to file a complaint against this type of behavior?

Just wondering - because the WPBA does not need this at all - when 99% of the players are professional and fun to be around, why not just get rid of that 1%? That makes sense to me.

...and the men should get rid of Earl!

Yeah, you are instructed to write a formal complaint but so many times players are intimidated to do that or you just want the situation to go away b/c you don't need all that drama during the tournament. Now that things have gotten out of hand with soo many for soo long I believe everybody is fed up and ready to take a stand. It is esp. hard when you are a newbie to write a complaint against a veteran. I think that now that there some veteran players taking a stand this will give strength to the new comers to do the same.

I'm with you on this. Pool is struggling enough as it is. A bad 1% can easily ruin all the effort the other 99% are putting in to it.

Thanks, Monica. I could see where that would be awkward for a player that has just qualified for the event to complain against an established veteran of the tour.

Hopefully this incident will take care of the problem completely, and the players won't be subjected to this behavior.

My sentiments exactly.

I hope this doesn't get swept under the rug, or that the outcome is handled quietly. This should get as much attention as the Varney threads have gotten, perhaps even more.

Like I said in my post yesterday, this has been going on for a while, and it's about time some of this nonsense was brought out in public. IMO, we should put a BIG spotlight on it, and turn the tables on her. Let her see what it feels like to be treated the same way she treats everybody else. Maybe that is what she needs to wake her up and to have her appreciate the honor of being a part of the WPBA.

I wonder what everybody will be saying when this news hits the streets in Taipei... that should be interesting.

Does she ever get invited to play in Taipei.....maybe she shouldn't go for awhile?

Sarah is also rude to the paying public that paid to see professional play....she often glares at the slightest twitch from a sweater ...don't you dare scratch your face.

Helena isn't a model professional either...I have seen her being rude to newer players.

I believe that Sarah played in the Amway Cup earlier this year, so she has played in Taipei.

As for Helena, in my experience of being around her, she is well liked by other players, and a lot of fun to talk to and hang out with. She is a really nice lady that doesn't hesitate to help out with a good cause - she is always cool at the LST events - WPBA events - she's tops in my book - like I said, Just my experience.

I heard through a rumor mill from another WPBA player, that she will be fined and will not be invited to the WPBA US OPEN Invitationa, in OK. But we will see.

S.

They should have sent her to bed without any supper. If you want to deter violence, they'll have to do better than that.

Too bad Sarah wasn't around when Ming was on tour. That's one little tiger who would have straightened her out fast. A word to the wise Sarah, if you ever see Ming on tour, don't elbow her. You may lose some body parts if you do.

Giving Sarah a 1 tournament suspension is a slap on the wrist. What she did is totally unexcusable.I'm sorry but,my opinion, with her past experience and what she did on the weekend, she should be suspnded for the rest of the season and ordered to take behavior classes.
Then, she will think twice about doing that again.
