SD,
It seems clear that an investigation has already occurred; perhaps we will at some point hear about it through more official channels. Perhaps not; it also seems clear that no one is anxious to air unpleasant incidents (who would???).
I think one inherent problem is that Jennifer, not being native to the US, probably did not understand that it needed to be written down and no one else probably encouraged her to do it either. Most players would feel that when you bring something to the board verbally, that it has now been brought to their attention, so no further action is required. However, just like any job, you need documentation of events to be placed in an employee's file, imaginary or otherwise.
If she was more familiar with laws and the elbowing happened, then the option of going to the police and filing a formal complaint may also have been one that Jennifer pursued.
I again concur that it should have been documented, but that could have gone both ways. After it was
verbally brought before the board, could that not have been documented by the Board and acted upon in the same way as if it had been written?
I guess as it stands, other than the foul during the game (which I assume is the part that Sarah got a warning for) it comes down to she said, she said and the ruling goes to the shooter, or the elbower in this case. :embarrassed2:
I don't doubt that the WPBA is doing a fine job. What we have to realize is that it is not a full-time job for the ladies (and possibly unpaid?) and that all decisions go on an agenda that is decided on at the next meeting, just prior to the next stop. And anything major is handled with conference calls, etc. with all involved parties in-between tournaments. That is my understanding of the process anyway.
You cannot fault them for not wanting any soiled laundry to see the light of day. It is a protective issue and any bad press, while it may attract a certain population, will probably detract from gaining sponsorship. The WPBA has to be presented as a squeaky clean package, as well as the players in it. And most of the players are. One bad apple can spoil the whole barrel though, as we all know. :frown:
I do not support booing (except for bad calls, lol) and it could have the effect of spotlighting her and disrupting other players or matches. I think the WPBA is trying to settle this with diplomacy and integrity and they have made their decision. I am sure that any future misconduct by Sarah WILL be dealt with more severely.
