I do not want to color anyone's opinion so I will make this as vanilla as possible with just 2 options.

The reasons for choosing one over another will be all yours and you can elaborate on it in the thread if you wish - after casting your vote.

Here's the scenario/question:

You purchased a brand new cue you paid over $2k for made by a TOP-tier cuemaker and the shaft pictured below was one of the two you received.

Are you happy with it and will use it / collect it as it is?

-or-

Are you not happy with it and consider it unacceptable?

thanks in advance for weighing in. :)

Is that what they call a sugar mark? I'd definitely be asking the top teir maker about it. Even if it doesn't change the playability,
I'd not be happy with the aesthetics...

I would talk to the cue maker.

I know that if you are not happy, you should be. Be calm and clear.

As much as folks here want to worship their cue makers, they are getting paid to provide a service. If you are not happy with the product or service, let them know and if they are really a "TOP TIER" cue maker, they will take care of it.

^sure looks like a sugar mark. Recently had a very very small one on a cue I purchased..nowhere near the 2k range so it didnt't bother me...but if I spent that much, I would definetly ask for a different one very politely :)

What aff said! I, obviously, voted :frown:

I also agree with what aff said.

I'm honestly surprised that this passed the cue maker's "QC check." If it was me making the cue, I probably wouldn't have sent it out in the first place.

yep...should be replaced

I wouldn't be happy on a new cue. Personally, I don't see a problem with a little grain or sugar lines in a shaft, but when they are that obvious and that close to the ferrule, it can be super distracting when stroking the cue over your shot.

I bought a shaft off the "blemished" rack of a local cue manufacture thinking I was getting a good deal as it was half off and I don't really care that much about asthetics. The shaft warped anid when I brought it back they said that while they warranty all their full price shafts and cues for life, the ones on the blemished rack are "as is". Actually, what she said after I finished my story was, "Oh well". I thought that was cute. I can't really blame them, but when you're paying full price you should get a new one made.

Yeah no. No problem with a little sugar, after all wood is wood, but the location is a killer.

If the cue make is making you a shaft and turns one down and gets that, he's gotta go in the bin and grab another blank, If he's turning down a shaft of yours and that's what he runs into, well I gotta think maybe that was the risk you took when you asked him to turn down an existing shaft. For a new shaft with your new cue. I'd say, make another shaft please.

I would say suppose you sell it; would you be happy to sell it to someone or would you expect that they demand another?

My two Lucasi shafts look better. And my break cue shaft looks better. I would be very annoyed. Top tier maker? Really?

agree with all who said the location is the issue, too close to the ferrule, it would capture my eye and drive me nuts

That's jump or break shaft material at best

Grade B shaft - unbelievable they would ship it that way.

For example, Schon used to sell grade B shafts at a discount, but they would only do it in person in the shop, so the buyer could see what the shaft was like. it's clearly a blem so something is not right that it shipped with a new cue.

For a TOP tier cue maker I would expect a much better looking tip, If you ask me this person could use a lesson in tip shapping and dressing a tip.
