Scott frost has retired from professional pool

It's been like this since I started playing pool.
Prolly a long time before that .
 
Scott seems to have a pleasant personality. He will make a good dealer and would probably do well in sales if he found the right niche.

He can always do a bit of 1P teaching on the side.

He can join the ranks of players who aren't afraid of work and regular hours.

At least he didn't say he was getting into lock smithing or stealing quarters from car washes.
 
Any chance Ken 4 fun would throw in the towel for good? I heard another poster mention taking up a collection for that.

I don't see what the big deal is,everybody quits pool from time to time,you just get burned out on it.But for some reason you always return.
 
You know what? You could teach! Our sport definitely needs more good instructors. 200+ PBIA instructors to serve 1,000,000 hard core players just doesn't cut it...and those are real numbers of people who WANT to get lessons to get better! Just keep it real and don't try to promote yourself as The Messiah! LOL BTW, if you're ever interested in becoming PBIA Certified, look me up! Love to have you in the program! :thumbup: I'm training new instructors in KS and IA next month.

I actually believe Scott could get a job in the casino as a dealer with little trouble as he has some connections with them and knows some people. That saying it is not always what you know but who you know applies. I think for many players this was their last hope with Bonus Ball because that is how bad off pool is that even what was considered by many to be a long shot or a sure failure was the best shot that pro pool players had at making a real living.

Scott retiring is little more than saying I am going to get a good paying job but he will still be playing the same tournaments he was before so I would not call it really retiring but more of an awakening. He knows pro pool cannot pay the bills or raise a family because the life of a pro player is nothing more then gambling whether it is one on one or going to any major tournament getting so called odds on the money with so called added money. Good luck to Scott with whatever he does.

No, like the rest of us, he just needs to wait for another 100 or 200 Pro's to quit and then enter the US Open with a serious chance at snapping it off :)

Back in the day...it was easy peasy to become a casino dealer. The casinos would train you, and as you became proficient in one game, they'd train you in the next. When I left Nevada, I could deal 21...shoe and hand deck, roulette, craps, and finally...poker. Of course, back then many were still mob run, but it was at the end of that hey day. Dealers were treated very well.

Nowadays.. it is my understanding, that it's a much tougher game to break into a decent casino. Also, the economy really hit casino dealers badly...so the unemployment rate amongst them...especially in NV...was very high.

If you're good and honest...you may well land a job with a decent casino.

I will say this...it was hands-down my most favorite job ever. Especially when I dealt poker.

You might have met my mom. she was what used to be called a mechanic back In the day...she worked for most of the Vegas casinos back then..

mechanics would out count the counters.. thats how you spotted cheaters back before the eye in the sky...late 60s early 70s
 
ok Fast, here goes - but pls know that i am sure i will have no agreement...

i know this will fall on deaf ears. i know, i know, but anyway...

i think the ONLY game that will bring a wide audience is 14.1 and here are some reasons why:

1. it is more like snooker and most of the world loves to watch snooker. hence it has the potential for world appreciation.
2. rotational games have luck and with that strategy, but most folks like to see 'skill' and not luck.

a. one pocket is for pros and not for a wide audience.
b. 8-ball is great for a bar, everybody knows the game. but boring to watch on tv.
c. 9-ball/10-ball is a; how you broke, and a lot of luck involved.

but 14.1 has almost no luck but how you foresee and execute and in my Not Humble Opinion is the answer to the best game for a wide audience here in the USA and abroad and Perfect for tv too.

Scott was side betting and not playing Dippy so no big score was made. One thing is for sure it will be a long time before there is a big money match like the one Scott and Dippy had. It was one of the top money matches in pool history and I am glad to have been a part of it along with witnessing 15s, 16s, 17s and even 18 and out! Thanks Scott for the memories bud and see you down the road. :)
 
Not trying to be a jerk about things but after the announcements of other players I have this to say about it......




Hate to say it but Scott or any other sh+t fire pro player will NEVER fully retire from pool. Mike Davis announced the same statement not 2 weeks ago and he was playing in NYC this past week!!!! I whole heartily agree with most pros on the SEMI retiring bit but if there is a legitimate pro-am event in their area that will cash them at least 1k for first you bet your ass they will be there!! Dont get me wrong... Kudos to them and all other pros that see that the best way to live life is by having a good paying 9-5. Nothing wrong with that but If you are saying you are retiring that means you're taking Keithers route and RETIRE FULLY!!!!!

It would be better to just say, "I feel that what is best for me is to find a good paying job that allows me to play in tourneys when I can afford to go to them..." THAT my friend is how us amateurs do it!! Aint nothing wrong with that and guess what?? Every amateur that you play against WISHES that they had a 10th of the talent that you pros got!!! yet will still pony up our cash to beat you!! SO.... Scott I hear ya but take getting a good job a BLESSING!!!! You dont know how good you really have it when you got STEADY pay and the talent to Double it. Good luck on your retirement.... :rolleyes:

Again no disrespect but be like the rest of us and suck it up!! Do you know how many times ive been knocked in the dirt to achieve what I have achieved!?!?!?!!! Hundreds of times!! Life isnt fair but you choose what you want to do with it!! The only reason I am were I am today is because I got up and wiped the dirt off of me and pressed on!! Could I have done it better and faster??? SURE!!! But Im here NOW and I EARNED my way to the top!! Im not saying in the least that you arent a stone cold champion (which you are!!) but your field is a low yield field to make decent money.

Ive done the math on pro players and the amount you spend on travel, food, lodging and entry fees you have to place at least!! top 13 out of 128 players to make any money at all. Again.... I love your game and heart (and my god have I seen your heart in action) but is it enough??? Nah... Find something good and save up for tourney like the rest of us bangers. I mean without us bangers you wouldn't have a top payout but again.... If you become the banger you got nothing to lose and all to gain....

Bonus Ball might have been the closest game to snooker I believe. I like 14.1 and one pocket is my favorite game but doubt either could make it good for TV. I like 8 ball or maybe a form of rotation or countdown 8 ball where 8 ball is the money ball, if you got stripes you go from 15 to the 8 ball in order and if I have solids I start at the 1 and go to the 8. You still have to make all your balls and adds the rotation aspect.

Another idea would be 8 ball where you have to bank the 8, a one rail bank is worth 1 point, two rails would equal two points and so on. Race to 8 points or whatever, a guy could be down 7-3 and nail a 5 railer to win which would be cool. Simple stuff for people to understand since its small variables on a well known game but freshens it up a little bit.
