I really enjoyed the one pocket event. Scott is getting a good deal of heat after his loss to Alex, Alex played great and had a ton of table time on it, Scott came in and probably hit two balls but all excuses aside, he lost. For this event, when it was announced, Scott and I talked about it and he said his biggest gripe was the ten footer as he never played on one. The shots on these tables are nowhere near the same, muscle memory wise unless you are a diamond system user the banks have to be hit longer, most banks missed were short.
Scotts 1-4 record looks bad but two matches, one with Shane and the other with Corey he lost hill to hill with opportunities to win both matches, missing ball in hand against Shane was one of them, with Corey it was a combination I believe. The other matches with Efren and Shannon were blowouts and he did beat Alex who was awesome in this event. If Scott beat Corey and Shane he would have been 3-2 and possibly even better because your mind is different winning hill-hill matches instead of losing them. I think Scott has not been playing enough and relying on knowledge of the game which everyone else is getting these days. One pocket was a specialty game and years back top 9 ball and straight pool players did not mess with it so the guys like Ronnie Allen dominated.
If you take the best pool player and teach him the moves he should become the best one pocket player but one key is having creativity which Efren Reyes has a ton of and so does Scott. Scott does not practice, does not play the other top players but 2-3 times a year and the other guys are playing one another week to week. If he put in the time that Shane does on the table then he probably would be playing better then his top gear, right now he is 2-3 balls under that gear for sure and still holds his own.
Race to 3 anything can happen in it, personally I think a race to 4 would have been a bit better for this event, some matches were over in 30 minutes to an hour. I like the ten footer because leaving them long and on that end rail was huge and really gave these guys a blood test. All in all it was a great event, I hope they make the 8 ball and 1 pocket annual invitationals. Keep supporting Accu-stats, they have been doing it for so long and doing a great job.
