If anyone ( an instructor, or a pro) wants to take me in for a few months....and improve my game...........i would be willing to travel .....

i am not a blank canvas.....i already am a very good player....i have a huge desire to play at a higher level

even if i fail miserably with pool.....at least i tried

i really want to succeed at something i care about.....i know there are may great players reading this right now that may have had this same desire.....and drive.....

Basically, if you are a very successful pool player, you would be posting the same thing. You will be working for nothing. You can do what you want for free or paid for something you don't like!

Dude..... you come on here about every month and ask someone to take you under their wing. You even asked some guy to ask Efren for him to take you under his wing.

You always say how great your game is, how great your break is, how your game grows in "quantum leaps".

You say today, you still don't have a job, and back in Sept. of 09, you said the same thing

But yet you always have a couple months of rent on you. What the hell do you do, where you don't work, you got no friends, no family, no girlfriend, no ties, nowhere to live, but you always have money? You can't make months of rent selling blood:eek:

I would seriously suggest getting a job and trying to work yourself up to something. A job with some growth potential and good benefits. Get a cheap place to live. Make kicking ass at your job your priority, so you can move up and make more money.

Then in all your spare time, you can practice pool.

Oh, and before you start all this, move to a pool city where there is alot of good players. This will satisfy your thirst of knowledge and will keep your ego in check with plenty of people that can kick your butt.

You can work 8 hours a day, play pool 8 hours a day and sleep 8 hours a day. Once your beating everyone in town and snapping off all the tournaments, someone surely will take you under their wing and back you and take you on a road trip.

Then quit your job, lose your benefits, lose all the work you did moving up the ladder and go have fun.

Then one of 2 things happen.

1. After your road trip is done and your backer dumps you because your too difficult to deal with, or you kept choking on the big games, or you got on the coke or something, then you can start all over.

2. You beat everyone's ass in every town and are now your ready for you big match with SVB. You lay down a lemon on him and squeak out a victory, his nose is wide open and you take him and his backers off for everything they own. SVB quits pool and goes to work selling life insurance. You proceed to move to the Phillipines and proceed to take down the whole country. You have reached your dream. No one will play you...........

except you get word about some guy from Arkansas named JoeBob, something about he wants someone to take him under their wing. You and JoeBob become best friends and live happily ever after.

The End.:D

...

ok...by no job...i mean....a part time job......and even though i hardly made any money this summer was able to pay rent...and save 1200 bux.......

i may never be happy...

maybe i just need to shoot a million balls in...

maybe this forum is a relaease for me....and maybe im delusional....maybe its just therapy....but i really wish i could just do it

maybe you need to find jesus...he has filled a huge void in my life and i used to think like you're talkin right now....now i have a family and a job and a house and an awesome church family as well...pool is now just a hobby to me...i love the game as much as ever but it is just a game and no way to spend your life trying to fill a void

Asking God to come in to my life was the answer for me also, I am not a perfect person, no one is , the only difference is that now I feel a need and a responsibility to try to do better as a person. Some people say they do that even though they don't believe in God , I am not that strong by myself. Best wishes for you.

Put a twenty dollar bill in your pocket. Put a five in another pocket for cheap food or a soda water, beer, smokes, decent food, luxuries comes out of that twenty dollar stake. Go to the pool hall, bars, anywhere you want to play and gamble with that twenty dollars. If you make money put it on the side and start the next day with $20 again. Do that for six months or a year, seven days a week. You will know how to win at the end of that time and that is what pool is about, finding a way to win. Doesn't really matter who the better player is over the course of months or years, you only have to outplay or out maneuver them while you are playing the person.

Oh yeah one other thing, after the first 30 days leave the five at home. Go out to conquer the world everyday starting on a twenty dollar bill. Sleep 'til noon, you don't have to get active until the late afternoon or evening. Call it a night when you can't find any action anywhere around you.

Have fun, all BS aside remember you are living your dream. Of course you might be quoting Earthquake in a few months. . . .

You don't really need any other single individual to help you, you just need to stick your toes in the fire and see what kind of steel you are made of.

Thats some straight talk right there.....When I moved to Tulsa I had my pool cues and my clothes and thats it.

I was there for a week and had 300 left......I had been up at the hall all day looking for a game and there were two players that were matched up playing some one hole for 100 a game....

they finally finished and I walked up and asked one of them to play some $300 one pocket and BANG we were off....

we played for just short of 3 days and I walked out with a nice fat bankroll....and a $450 table time LMFAO

NO ONE IS GOING TO JUST JUMP UP AND TAKE YOU IN.....

YOU GOT TO PROVE YOURSELF.....

B/C ODDS ARE YOUR JUST A WASTE OF TIME LIKE EVERYONE ELSE....

I had many top notch players and teachers that helped me out once I got out there...hell I even had a 20year cue maker apprentice me for about 5 years while I was playing full time.

I had to go FIND those people.....they didn't find me brother. You may be in for a real shocker to find that the situation of being a "pro" pool player isn't even for you....its a very tough life, may as well be an orphan or a red headed stepchild.

Even our sanctioning governing body don't give two sh*ts about the situation the sport has been in what seems like forever....(well they say they do but they don't do anything to prove that)

After the IPT collapse I went out and got a great job makin a ton of $$$ (hard work tho).....I would rather be involved in the industry building cues/instructing/help build afterschool programs etc than be a player on the tour....

B/C THERE IS NO F*KING TOUR!!!!

Quit playing pool, move to europe and play snooker....if you want to be a pro and not live hand to mouth then snooker is a much better game.

I've been doing what I do now for 3 years and i make more money than basically everyone on the money list but the top 3-5 players....that aint saying much brother.

If you havent taken it upon yourself to advance yourself in some way in some field by 28.....then I doubt your work ethic to become a top notch pool player....talent means jack sh*t.

Not to mention that you say how instead of looking for jobs your posting this.....ARE YOU KIDDING ME....YOU WANT HELP AND YOU SOUND LIKE A BUM!!!

You do what you have to to get where your going....its not kiddie land. YOU DON'T WANT TO WORK IMOP...OR YOU WOULD HAVE SOME KIND OF JOB....all else is BS!!

Posting and lurking on AZ and not working....get your head out your ass and go to work son.

no such thing as talent, it takes WORK

he probably plays well enough that people put him in the box and he makes scores from time to time. it happens

I felt the same way as the OP...

Then I joined the Army. The Army took me under its wing and gave me a career. It gave me direction in life. It gave me a STEADY PAYCHECK, FOOD in my stomach, and a ROOF over my head.

And as far as pool goes, it has allowed me to play pool all OVER the country...from the west coast to the east coast and all places in between.

If it weren't for the Army, I would not have made the friends I have...some of whom post here, some of whom are very recognizable in the pool world.

I'm not saying the Army is the only way to go, (any of the services are great in their own way), or that you're any less of a person for not signing up....but it's done nothing but good things for me. Just food for thought.

**There are days that I wish that I didn't have the structured life that the military has. But most of the time, it's a blessing. I almost always know what is expected of me and what I can expect in return, which is alot more than others can say in the civilian world.

So.... What I'm I missing here??? running the risk of :deadhorse: Hit the road yo. Pack your bags pack some cash and see where the winds of fate take you........ [rant] or better yet Go get a F'n job! thats right stop looking for validation go get a 9- 5 a McJob and grind that out, pay taxes buy a house get life insurance and a 401k a wife and 2.1 kids a white picket fence etc etc...[/rant]

If you want to get noticed here's what you do:

Get a video cam, go to a pool hall with a perfect table (GC/Diamond). Videotape yourself beating Willie Mosconi's 526 run. Post video on youtube, you will be an overnight sensation. You'll have people wanting to sponsor you, Efren will be asking for your autograph, Jeanette Lee will be wanting to go a date with you. You will be a legend.

Learning how to live like that iss a skill. When you get a job that pays better then you will be exponentially better off.

You need to get a job as a product rep for a pool company, maybe in customer service even. You aren't gonna be playing pool for a decent living but you will stiill be 'in the game'.

Trust us, you don't wanna get stuck where you are now. We've all admitted to ourselves that we'd rather play than work, but that isn't what the money is given for. And many better players that you have played the game of life.

When Danny D decided against that it's all good and the pool community praised him for it. when this guy mentions it and we imply he's a bum that should just get a f'n job! it's funny out here for sure

JCpoolgod, here are a few ideas that really do work. Just track with me for a few minutes.

First you have the right idea. Follow or chase your dream. That is one of the keys to a truly good life. When you are doing what you love to do you will do it better than others because you will work harder and longer than other people. This will pay off in the end. It may or may not pay off in money but it will certainly pay off in a life well lived.

However, no one is going to invest time or money or their own experience in an unknown quantity. That is just the way life is. People have to get to know you, the real you, before they decide to take a chance. Given that this is true you need to place yourself where people can meet you, where they can see the way you live, your dedication, your talent. If you are good and have the right characteristics they will approach you.

When I was teaching college some of the students would say that they could not get a job in the criminal justice system because all the good jobs were taken. I would show them how to do it if they were truly serious about a career. Here is how it is done and it applies equally to being a professional player.

Go to the local court and volunteer your services. You start with emptying trash cans, making photocopies and whatever needs done. In this way the people at the court get to know you and how serious and talented you are. It may for a month or a year seem like a dead end, but it isn’t. You see most of the pros are watching you and little by little they test you in various ways to learn just how well you fit. As they get to know you there are other requests that are a little more serious, require more effort and talent to test you a little more. You do not get paid, and it fact it may cost you money to do things that take time and effort just so others can learn that you really are serious, talented, and dedicated.

Later, maybe six months or more, a job or an opportunity will come open and one of the higher ups will say, “Well, we got that guy over there. He is always here always working, always contributing, maybe we should give him a try.” You see there is aways a turn over in life, people come and go and we are always looking for the next replacement who just might do a better job, make a better contribution, be a better player.

Now your friends are telling you that you are lucky, a kiss ass, or whatever complaints they want to make because you are “in” and they are not.

Most police officers today with a good job have been volunteering for three to five years before they landed the job they wanted.

Trust yourself, believe in yourself, and most importantly give of yourself and it will all come back doubled.

Now, how to get that done? Well, you pick the player, the coach, or the group that you want to join and you go there and start being you. If you are good and you follow the spirit of what is written here you will succeed. It makes no difference if it is playing pool or any other career. The trick, if there is one, is to give of yourself to the full extent that you are able to give, always giving, always willing to learn.

Many people are willing to work hard and long if someone will tell tem what to do. This is why we have so many unions and factory laborers. A few people realize that you must take control of your life and you must out work, have more dedications, and expect little in return. Then you will succeed beyond your dreams.

Been there done that and have shown many others how to do it. It simply takes the guts to have faith in yourself and the courage to follow your dream where ever it leads. Believe it or not money is easy to make, good people with self direction, and dedication are rare. Those who know what they want but may not know how to get it and are willing to learn from others are difficult to find.

Place yourself, and your dedication where others can find you – they will.

In my life I never took a job where I got a raise. I always took a cut in pay to get the next job closer to the ideal job I wanted. From being a ward of the state, living on welfare, in orphanages and in foster homes I became a doctor, a professor and had more money than I needed to do what I wanted to do. These are the “tricks” I used in my professional life and in sports. I have shown many others how to do it and those who listened have succeeded so I know these ideas work, But, it takes guts, courage, and real commitment.
