Shane and Earl up at World Cup of Pool

Crazy that Earl was chosen over best American player in WCOP history
Yes that right Rodney
He won with SVB and got into final with Earl in 1st edition years ago. Their opponent Efren/ Buste. Earl meltdown and USA crash and burn
Earl kept talking to Efren/ Buste and saying that Efren/Buste never get difficult shots while USA get the difficult shots LOL
Here is 1st part of that match and other parts also there on Youtube
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_K5DTnY1MOw

Rodney is much better partner for SVB, he talks through shots with SVB , is positive and when SVB makes error, he laughs it off and makes SVB feel better
Rodney is the 3 Cs- Counsellor, Cheerleader, Captain
What does Earl bring to the team? He has negative things to say and puts down SVB

I noticed that also. Shane played pretty solid from start to finish and Earl made a few errors early and toward the end of the match. They actually should have won 7-0, except for Earl's mistakes. And yet he chooses to focus on one loose position shot by Shane. But hey, that's Earl. I'm glad to see them win, but I don't foresee them going that far, unless they get very fortunate.

By far the best match of the first round was England vs. Spain. Two excellent teams playing almost perfect pool, until the last rack when Alcaide missed a relatively easy shot that would have won the match for them. The pressure of the situation got to him.

Not to get off topic but boy oh boy did Alcaide choke on that 4 ball. Err I think it was the 4 ball? England got bailed out there. I always root for the underdog so I was cheering for spain, but in all honesty not really sure if the skill level was that far apart with those two teams. Spain played great in that set, except for that missed ball.

I agree with this assessment, except you've oddly not counted Earls' scratch in rack 7 as an error. As you say, though, Earl wasn't bad, he just wasn't good enough. He and Shane must step it up. Shane was also quite fortunate when on one of his breaks, the cue ball went up onto the rail and returned to the table, leaving a perfect look at a run-out. They'll surely beat the off-form Russia to reach the quarterfinals, but after that they need to play better than this to contend for the title.

Earl and Shane allowed their opponents to get to two in a race to 7 and they are supposedly playing horrid and earl is having melt downs. That's pretty strong!! Keep it up team USA and don't let anyone get past two!!

Yeah, tough crowd. If it's like this when they win, I'm afraid to see the threads that pop up when (or if) they lose.
No need to worry about Shane and Earl, though. If anyone knows how to step up their game when they need to, it's these two guys.

USA, all the way. I agree and well said.

It is quite sad when the American pool culture rips apart their own in a world competition like this. It's hard to read, but welcome to American pool. People wonder why it's circling the drain. :frown:

I can feel the love and respect for Earl,Shane & USA on the playing field and TV screen. They truly are friends and CARE!!!

Nice to see Earl with a true friend. Shane can learn a lot from Earl regarding what to do and what not to do. Shane WILL be the big winner for picking Earl! Learning life and pool lessons.

To this point, Croatia looked like the worst team in the field. Read the nice rack by rack match summary and you'll see that the US made at least six errors in a match lasting nine racks. That's mediocrity, plain and simple, and won't be enough to compete in round 3. I watched the match from beginning to end and, since I'd like to see American players distinguish themselves overseas for the first time in forever, I'm looking for better play than this from a team seeded fifth.

Careful.

Your objective analysis could get you branded as an Anti-American around these parts.

As long as they're still in, you better believe I'll be rooting for Team USA. That doesn't mean I have to say they played perfectly when they very clearly didn't. They made a good amount of errors in their first match, and were fortunate to be playing a team that couldn't capitalize on said errors.

Yes JAM I find it quite humorous people are saying how flawless Appleton's team played yet it went hill hill. In a winners break format that hardly makes sense. Yet Shane and Earl drill their opponents and they're saying how bad Earl's team dogged it. It's just crazy!! I can't wait to hear what they say when someone gets to three???

Hear, hear, Kid. I agree. :)

Thank goodness for American loyal pool fans like you and Kid Dynamite. If it weren't for folks like you, this thread would suck a big weenie.

Stream is freaking unreal. $7 for this is a no brainer. The clarity is so high I saw a molecule of moisture threaten to turn into sweat on Ralf's brow then it retreated.

At the risk of sounding Anti-American or Anti-Earl, which I'm not either one, I realize that mistakes will be made throughout this tournament (and any other tournament for that matter). I can definitely look beyond any mistake that Shane or Earl make because I know that I can only dream of performing at a fraction of their level. What spoke higher volumes to me that America may have issues in the subsequent rounds is the fact that Earl began to come fray at the edges when things weren't going perfectly. I totally that he's a perfectionist and he's probably the most talented person to ever pick up a pool cue. But early in the match Earl displayed displeasure with some of his position play even after the cue ball ended up in an adequate position for Shane to play the next shot and get position for the following shot. Then a little later in the match you could see Earl looking into the crowd as if he could go into an tirade at any moment, and they were still up about 4 games at the time. This is what worries me more than their actual play because I know that they will get the pool play together.

I would really like to see U.S. win and I would love to see Earl receive the credit and admiration that I feel he deserves for everything he's done in the sport. I just hate to see Earl tarnishing his image by being a poor sportsman when things aren't going his way.

Oops, possible mistake. I am not sure if matches are scheduled in advance, so I shouldn't assume. Anyway, Go USA!

Loved the sneak peek at Shane and Earl in the practice room preparing for their next match. As usual, Matchroom with a nice touch.
