Shane's racking "trick"

Maybe Shane was doing nothing wrong...maybe he was. Still undetermined.

Well, let's be more explicit about this point. The allegation is that he's racking the balls - WITHIN THE RULES - in such a way that he knows how to make balls. I don't think anyone is accusing him of violating any rules, because if he was they would just call a foul and that would be it.

But it's not a foul to rack the balls tight, just as it's not a foul to rack with some gaps. So what exactly is the accusation? That he's studied the break and they haven't? That you shouldn't study the break but he did?

Recommend other break and rack rules if you want, but don't claim Shane may be "doing something wrong" when he is not.

What change? I don't think there's anything wrong. There's nothing wrong with other players eyesight its a matter of practice and has always been. You said you worked and played and that doesn't allow for the dedication Shane has. Players don't like to hear this but they are not putting in the time Shane does and the results are telling. The racks not broke its the excuses that are being used

Huh?????????????

So why not use the Magic Rack (or whatever they call the other version of the Magic Rack.) Answer: Because Barry hates Mark.

Pigs will fly before they use the Magic Rack at the U. S. Open.

Maybe it's even worse than that: Players will be paid on time before they use the Magic Rack at the U. S. Open.

I agree with you. But the rules state all balls must be racked as tightly as possible. Intentionally making gaps violates this rule. Not saying that's what he was doing, but I think it would violate this rule if he was. Still undetermined. I want to believe he is just a great breaker of the balls.

Shane has been consistent; he's said it in response to Niels' statement, he's said it in interviews, and he said it before the Open started: he prefers the magic rack, and thinks it's the most neutral. He's also dominated many tournaments when it's been employed. This tournament allows for inspection. Dennis certainly doesn't need Niels' help determining if something funny is happening. What more can Shane do?

All well and good, but Shane complained about the magic rack repeatedly during his 10-ball race to 25 with Ko Pin Yi at the CSI events in Vegas in July. a match he lost.

Incredibly, at one point, Shane made a tournament official try about ten different magic racks before proceeding with his next break. Made the game and the sponsor look bad on that occasion.

Let's not pretend that Shane isn't one of the complainers.

What more can he do? Pretty much nothing. You work within the rules they give you and that's what Shane does.

I just read this from Niels Feijen's Facebook page:

"Sorry but i can't help it to write something negative about the us open(rack mechanics) championships. I just watched Shane beat dennis on centre court and he made the corner ball 9 out of 11 times, where the entire field was happy to get a ball down on that table. When you rack you're not allowed to touch the rack once you lift it so he touches the 1 ball when the rack is still on, creates gaps and gets the corner ball. Genius trick and an absolute monster player but i truly feel this break format with rack your own is chewed out, old school and done with!! It was created to speed up the game/racking and now it's whoever knows the most tricks/cheats gets the edge. Magic rack, 9 on the spot, 3 point rule break from anywhere, alternate break...It's no rocket science. Same rack for everybody.
My prediction, Shane will win his third title in a row, he's playing great and knows the tricks."

Tell Neil's to not run home and tuck his tail. Why don't he play SVB a big set to like 100 or 15 ahead for about 10/20k. And they could rack for each other.

Just another crybaby ass pool player that lost.

As a matter of fact I'll put it on his facebook.

About the racking issues, why not just rack it without touching the 1 ball or any ball after you rack it so you won't be accused if anything. Touching something after the rack makes the rack lose its integrity. And FYI even with the magic rack Shane still touches the 1 ball, why do you think he does? There's really something to it.

Shane only wins tournament inside the USA, he never won anything outside the US except for a World Cup of Pool win which is a scotch doubles tournament playing with Rodney Morris. Its only in the US tournaments that they do the rack your own in tournaments. This is the reason Shane cannot win anywhere else because he has no advantage if he can't rack his own. Imagine a world class player that cannot win anywhere else in the world except his home country, lol.

We should be at least thankful to Neils Feijen for pointing this out. He is a current legit world champion who earned it the right way.

Here is what Neils really wants the rest is bs

He don't have to like it. Niels can play! Neutralize break and rack rigging. Niels pockets, kicks, jumps and safes amongst the best! Break balls sideways with one ball at wing ball spot! Rotate rack 90 degrees no dead break ball. He may come a running like a chuck wagon.

After watching SVB against our Nick, I think it's verified that his success in breaking is mainly due to the work he has put behind it, and not on the way he racks.
He is able to overcome different rack patterns, obviously due to the study in depth he has done on them.
He is definitely a pool genius, congrats to him.

This is a great post and puts things in perspective from someone emotionally involved. Hats off to the Greeks.

SVB is not the best player nor best breaker but the best racker in the world.

Not everyone can executes a power draw shot, yet everyone knows what needs to be done. SVB's break is identical to a power draw shot, he is the only one knows how to do it. It is perfectly legal shot. And i beg all to stop bringing this issue up. Thanks.

Unfortunately, this is the type of drudge players who break well have to deal with when they rack their own. An official is needed, badly. There's no way to prove you're not trying to give yourself an edge or doing anything other than trying to get them as tight as possible. And anyone can accuse you. There's no winning with this formula. The fact that this thread is up is frustrating, and the fact it contains comments like this is very discouraging.

I don't care about the shot clock anymore.

I want a racking clock. It's getting ridiculous when it can take guys 5 minutes to rack every time. Better yet, get a ref to rack and the players can't even look at the rack. STFU and break.
