There are a couple AZ'ers here in particular I'd like to give a shout out thank you to for generousity way the heck above and beyond the call of duty; sjm and Williebetmore.
First I'd like to say thanks to sjm for being the ultimate NYC host over the last year during my several visits there. I met sjm at DCC a couple years ago and at the time, it was great to finally meet who I still consider, hands down, to be the best author on AZ.
Whenever I've run into him again, he has been nothing but absolutely selfless and generous. Examples include introducing me to everyone he knows as a friend of his, including Jennifer Baretta, introducing the game of three cushion billiards, and even inviting me to tag along with him to a Mets game last summer.
Last week, we went to Sang Lee's in Queens with another friend of his, Jace, and after spending about 5 hours teaching Jace and I how to play better 3 cushion shots, before I knew it, sjm paid for the time! I guess free lessons really means free lessons!
It's not about the money thing though, it's about the time. I don't think I've quite met anyone as willing to help people with their game who enjoys doing it so much. Thanks again sjm!
I certainly don't know Williebetmore as well, but yesterday was quite a day and this deserves a big thank you as well. When Williebetmore mentioned on Facebook that he was playing Jeanette earlier this week in the famous Betmore Basement, I sent him a message saying I was going to see her at a demonstration event here in Chicago and if there was any clever message he might want me to give her, which he indeed gave me. lol However while I was traveling back from the east coast, I ran into some car trouble in PA and while waiting for a part at a garage, I mentioned to Williebetmore that I might not make it. I didn't see a message he sent until after I arrived to the event 45 minutes late that he had called Jeanette and that if I gave him my number, she would call me and save a couple seats for me at the event.
The event was a huge success and when I finally got a chance to say hello to Jeanette and George, indeed they were expecting me and their enthusiastic greetings certainly reflected the terrific respect they had for Williebetmore, and I have to admit, it was kind of fun to bask in the false sense of importance in front of my local hoodies.
Williebetmore, you da man!
In the swirl of everything AZ, there's a silver lining that deserves to be mentioned. There are some tremendous people here that do kind things for others on a regular basis, sjm and Williebetmore are only two of them and there certainly are others here on AZ that I won't mention, because I'm not sure I really like them anymore anyways. Thanks again guys and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again at what is going to be the best DCC yet!
