Doing a quick search on the forums using sjm's last name, only one other poster has ever posted his full name on these boards. BUT...she didn't even link the name to sjm the poster.
But I guess we can't blame you JAM. It's sjm's own fault for being good enough to qualify for such a prestigious tournament. It was only a matter of time.

I didn't know it was supposed to be a secret! I thought everybody knew his name was "Stu." I thought since there is only one "Stuart" in the event, that it would be him.

stu, it was nice to see u with ur dad this morning taking In some of the action. As u know, my dad passed away fairly unexpectedly Thursday night, and I chose to compete this morning instead of attending the funeral. I am 100% sure that is what he would have wanted.
Nothing earth shattering to report thus far, with the exception of upstart NY player michael yednak defeating harriman 100 to 77. John schmidt had the high run so far in the low 70's followed by Russian stepanov's 61 (against me). On these tables, that's quite an accomplishment.
The only other bit of news was the player from Spain, carlos something, who apparently was involved in a car accident supposedly I the way to the airport, in Spain, to come here. I hope he's ok. If anyone knows this player and can fi d out more details, I would appreciate it.

Well, my day is now in the books, and I played respectably, so it would be tough to complain.
I won my first match comfortably over Peter Burrows, 100-29 and I ran the balls pretty consistently.
While waiting for my next match, I caught Souquet's 101 and out against Matt Krah, who missed just one shot. Ifelt bad for him, but little did I know I'd get a dose fo similar medicine later in the day. Souquet, who'd lost a match to Bob Maidhof, left nothing to chance in this one, and gave a breathtaking performance. Hohmann would later run 100 and out on Bobby Hunter, too.
Next up was fellow poster Craig Riley, and we had a fairly uneven, but interesting match. We were both a bit conservative, and Craig really played well tactically, not allowing me to fully exploit my greatest weapon, which is my safety play. Still, I came with enough good shots and created enough good chances to be right there at the end, but I missed the break shot trailing 91-83 and that was that, 100-83 final score. My evening ended with a match against Dennis Hatch, and I knew I might have a tough go of it. Sure enough, I shot just twice, and Dennis ran 84 and out to beat me 100-11. He really played beautifully, overpowering the table at times, but also showing the deft touch of an old school player.
So, I went 1-2 today, and loved every minute of it. I felt pretty comfortable out there, and did plenty of things of which I was proud.
Tomorrow should be fun and, I fear, no less challenging.
