So far, it looks like he's doing an awesome job. I liked his picks for day one; he put Brandon out there early to get him cocked, paired him up with JA (smart move). The only on the spot coaching I saw him do was working with Brandon during the doubles match to calm him down. Once on the floor, he seems to be letting the team do their thing...the European coach can't seem to stay in his chair. He seems to be letting JA do the motivational stuff, which he's very good at (a VERY smart move). I've been watching these matches closely for the past 10 years; this is really the first year our team really looks like a team that wants it bad. I'm sure they wanted it bad in earlier years, but this year it seems palpable.
Without Ralf, I don't think Europe can do it this year. Economopoulos is a great player, but I think he's their weak link...I could be wrong, he's had a great year on the EuroTour; but he looks a little overwhelmed and was having problems controling the CB on some pretty pedestrian shots. Maybe he'll tighten it up, but I'll bet he doesn't.
Hatch is wound WAY up! He was fist pumping so hard during the doubles match, I thought he was going to clock Van de Berg by accident.
