Wow. That was a tough choice Vivian. I hope Nathalie grows up understanding what a wonderful mother she lost and strives to be the kind of person you are.

And I hope Nathalie's birth mother understands what a gift you gave her back and cherishes and nurtures that girl to no end.

I am glad the unknowing is over. Best of luck going forward.

John

Very well stated!

Afterward, Villarreal told K-T-H-V T-V in Little Rock that she let the girl to choose whether to stay in Arkansas with her mom or return to San Antonio with Villarreal. She said Nathalie decided to remain with her mother but also wants Villarreal to be part of her life.

That was a very classy move as well on Vivian's part! Im happy for you Vivian!!!

What a mess. The confused kid has to chose between a loser of a mother or a person that would care for and love her.

Either way I hope Vivian has closure and can now get on with the rest of her life. I am sure she is relieved that she is still alive.

An incredible story. Let us all take this opportunity to acknowledge the kindness in Vivian's heart and the sacrifice that she had/ will have to come to terms with. God bless her and all those involved- may their lives be filled with love and happiness.

I hope people don't take this the wrong way.

This is amazing first off, and Vivian, you are truly a kind hearted woman.

I have to say this though, I don't know if that was the best decision.

Based on the article, the mother took her after losing a custody battle because she was in Jail? If that's the case and she kidnapped her, I would think legally kidnapping someone would necesitate the FBI getting involved. The fact that she was willing to do this makes it appear that this wouldn't be the best environment for for the child. She is a child and the reason that children are children is because they don't have the age and experience to make adult decisions on their own. I'm not saying that you made the wrong decision by any stretch of the imagination, and I'm sure you thought extremely long and hard prior to making it.

I just can't help feeling sorry for both you and the child. You for having to go through all of this pain and still not getting to raise the child,(I'm pretty sure you would do a better job at it.), and her for being put through this hell of being taken away, being forced to choose, and for having to live with a mother that was willing to put her through all of this.

I wish there was an easy answer to a situation like this. I wish you all of the courage and hope that I can give.

Sincerely, Jaden

Congrats ..

I am so happy for you Vivian. You are a great player,
and an inspiration to the Pool world, and funny too.

Hope you two can make up for lost time, and create
many wonderful memories in the future. God Bless.

There is a lot more to life than what you read in the papers. For the mother to take the risk that she did shows a lot of love on her part. We don't know the details of how and why Vivian got custody. For the last eight years this child has only known her mother as her mother. Apparently there is more to the story than we know. It is foolish of any of us to judge based on the scant facts we have. All we know now is that Vivian doesn't have to live with any more uncertainty and she made a tough decision concerning the child she had accepted as a daughter. I am sure the child was faced with an equally tough decision as well.

As one who has "been there", let me tell you that there are depths upon depths of emotional complexity in situations like this. There is rarely a black and white story or answer.

I'd like to echo this...and perhaps change "rarely" to "never."

Sometimes you don't have children in the usual way, but they are no less children of your heart. You have to do what you believe is best for them, even if nobody else sees it your way - you're the one who's in the position to know. Sometimes you have to fight for them. Sometimes you have to let them go, and wait for the right time.

The bottom line is to be there for them, whether near or far. Vivian can do that now, and plans to. That's worth more than anything, and it says everything about what a mother really is.

God bless her.

Unfortunately, family law is probably the most difficult to litigate fairly. People, love and emotions are just not easy to decide in a court of law - maybe they shouldn't be.

As I understand it, the young girl was left in Vivian's custody while the mother went to jail for approx a couple of years or so. Vivian got attached, the mother got out of jail, and the mother then took off with the child to parts unknown to vivian. So, for over 8 years, Vivian has had no idea where this girl and the mother went. Hopefully, the mother and Vivian can reconcile so that Vivian and the girl can get re-aquainted. This would be the best-case scenario imho.

I just got home from work and the new Billiard Digest is here . There is a section called the Holiday Gift Guide and there is a picture of Vivian and her little girl. "I just want to spend Christmas with my daughter" is the quote under the picture!! Hope she gets her wish and I am sure everyone else feels the same..
Maybe there is a Santa after all!!
