So where is the Bonus Ball annoucement?

To be fair, a few players who had matches the next weekend were practicing during the last day of Ultimate 10-Ball. That includes Ralf, and Thorsten.

They were mostly discussing strategy and trying out stuff.

That said, in my opinion, IPT's bet of choosing 8-Ball was a much, much better one than coming up with a new set of balls, new rules etc...

Even if these rules make a lot of sense to the players, they are not the audience. Making the game tougher for the pros and making a game formatted for TV are two different things.

Which is exactly why the Mosconi Cup will never be played with 10-Ball call-shot.

I did find interesting part to watching BB, but then again I enjoy a 150 run in straight pool. Not sure I'm the best target audience to judge

I agree with this. Keep the entire look of BB and shot clock (which I admit I am not a fan of) and make it 8ball and it would catch on with the public more and Pool Community as well I think.

I would guess this number should be doubled at the very least. If Nathan isn't making 3000/week himself, he bumped his head much harder than I thought.

I did not know cameramen made that kind money. Wow!

I just went on the Bonus Ball website to see if Mike Dechaine was a member. I seem to recall he was not. I then read an article written by Nathan about the team he was on. Ralf Souquet took his place.

The website, I must say, is well done. You being a graphic kind of guy may see it differently, but I like the website.

I'm not sure how to say this, but it hurts my heart to recognize those who did invest their life into this Bonus Ball venture only to have it crumble around them today. I'm not saying it's dead, but it is starting to deteriorate a little. Whatever has happened to date, these guys truly did want something good to happen. I do feel bad for them. I really do. :(

I agree with Joe_Jaguar that they should be out promoting Bonus Ball at the Rio pronto.

Doesn't he get the camera equipment, or something like that? Or was that just fun forum stuff?

Where is Nathan, and why hasn't he commented on these latest BB threads???

This post is 50% speculation, sprinkled with 50% of WTF. Poke holes in it - I'm just trying to wrap my head around how this "incredibly well funded venture" is in the crapper so early.

18 players each week x $1000: $18k/week

So they put the brakes on this early? No way the construction delay burned almost a million bucks IMO. And if they still had $500k in the bank (or whatever) while seeing they were doomed down the road, wouldn't they have paid the players to better keep them on the hook?

I can't get the math to jive with the "this thing is so well funded" PR. Can anyone???

I hate how this is working out for so many people and hope something good will come...

So you ALSO are saying the players only get paid the weeks they play so their steady salary is really $500/wk and many pros rearranged their life for this or they are flying in and out of Vegas for this and staying in a hovel somewhere? How can that work? Pool is far worse off than i thought

who knows...maybe they thought a couple thousand of people over seas would buy their stream for 9.95 in the first few days..

Or they took the few dollars that came in an went an played cards across the street.

to be real...I'm not sure what to think..I wouldn't think anyone would go this far out on a limb to dump..the investors may have pulled the plug..no numbers.

Out of total curiosity, please take no offence. Do you work during the day?

Yep, I'm working right now. I actually begin my day in the wee hours of the morning. While I am taping, I am on the Internet doing other things, like posting here. I tape some proceedings online, and it's real-time process, sometimes live.

Sometimes, however, I have to go on site, which means I have no access to forums.

I was just curious. So your self employed? I was going to say, I feel sorry for your employer if this is how you spend your work day, lol......

I have two jobs. One job, I am a salaried employee, but I have many days that I am "officially" off duty. My other job, I am chief cook and bottle washer.

I have been recording a lot in the last month, new system. It's a boring thing to do. While I am recording, I am limited on what I can do with my computer. I have to monitor the recording, start, stop, begin new one, et cetera. I'm pretty good with audio software. If you ever need advice, I'm the one to ask. :grin-square:

I have heard some rumblings of players getting more involved with running the enterprise to try and save it. The press release has a bit of a "Wow we messed up." flavor to it and an actual attempt at humility which is a first for BB management. Both of these things are probably too late to do much good though.

The overhead for this giant monstrosity is way more than any revenue structure in pro pool can generate. As it sits its close to $50K a week. Nothing in pro pool makes that.

The players have given it their level best all the way around. They got behind this thing and they worked together better than I have ever seen before. That part of BB has actually given me some hope. I know a lot of them knew it was a long shot but figured it was all they had so they had to take it. The bad part is they were lied to. Numerous times. They made an honest effort but they got a bum steer.

Even if BB can find some money I just dont see how they make anything work long term without basically tearing the whole plan down and starting over. Even then the overhead is still crushing. I have done the numbers and they just come out ugly.

I will be surprised if we see the season re-start. I think its like that restaurant analogy I made earlier....when you see the doors close they almost never open back up again.

wacko wants the players to be successful supposedly but trying her hardest to trash and hope BB fails, lol
I think that is a bit of a simplistic determination re: her posts.

Is it not possible that she wishes it could succeed in a manner that benefits the sport, as a whole...and not just its owners and players?

It's my understanding they get $1k for each match they play in. 22 regular season matches + playoffs.

I agree, but if you look at the history of this, Bonus Ball is the end, not the means. Larry Chiborak says that everything - the league, the arena, etc. - is a vehicle for the game, not the other way around. If that's his view, it's hard to see the game going away.

The irony is that a lot of die-hard pool fans have grown to really like the game. It is quite subtle and complicated, and therefore appealing to die-hard pool fans like us more than a mass audience. But something like this can't be successful appealing to the few thousand one-pocket lovers out there, it has to appeal to a mass audience.
