....last night, and when the manager brought it over to me to ask me if it belonged to anybody on my team or from the guy's team of whom I was talking to, I took it under a table light and saw that it was a very nice....Palmer!!! Now I don't know a lot about cues, but I would think a Palmer is not of the class of cues that one would mind forgetting at the pool room.

I bet the phone rings early today at THAT poolhall!!!

That's nothing! I left my Southwest on a table and went to work......twice! A friend of mine picked it up and put it in his locker both times. In a rush to settle up the table time and get to work on time. Don't have the Southwest or a job anymore!

Yeah, a Palmer would be a tough one to leave behind. Until two weeks ago, I could say I NEVER left a cue behind at the poolhall...afterall, how do you walk out without it?!?! But I did just that...someone in the ring game borrowed my jump cue & didn't put it back next to my case. Out of sight, out of mind.

Thank God there are still some honest people around. Positive stories like this makes one feel good.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I told the manager to put it behind the counter and that someone would be calling her soon enough. The dude I was conversing with told her that if nobody claimed it in 30 days, then he wanted it. The manager told him that she keeps things for 6 months before giving up on finding the owner. I don't think she is going to have to wait that long in this case.

A guy on my team a few years ago left a custom sneaky pete at the hall. He didn't realize it until next week's league and found the cue on the wall with the house cues.

I'm really lucky to live in a smaller city and a state where everyone knows me. I've left almost everything in my bag at one time or another. My Lebow,my Madden, chalker, cue balls, break cue, jump cue,jp's,towels. Some of the stuff I don't even know is missing till I show up to play. Hey Don we got your chalker! Hey thanks didn't even know it was gone! Got some good friends.:)

My old road partner, Gary Spaeth played in a tournament in Dayton one night. When he left to come back to Cincinnati, he put his Szamboti on the rear bumper of his car while talking to a couple of buddies. When he got back to Cincinnati he stopped at a full service gas station (did I mention that this was back in the early 80's) to fill his car with gas. The gas station attendant came to his window and asked him if he knew his case was on his bumper. He'd just driven over an hour down I75 at breakneck speeds (knowing Gary) and the cue and case arrived home safely.

I did almost the same thing a few years later. I played in a Busch League city tournament at the convention center in downtown Cincy. When I left I'd set my Szamboti in it's Felini Case on top of my car while talking to another player. Next thing I knew I started driving out of the parking garage. I heard a thump thump when I pulled out and all of a sudden I hit my brakes knowing the source of the sound. I lucked out also! Just a slight scuff on the case.

I've never left a cue at the pool hall, however, being absent minded lately, I did walk out of the hall 2 nights ago and forgot to pay my tab. Luckily they knew I wasn't trying anything funny and I paid it last night.
I'll probably be forgetting my cue soon tho.

:yikes: And likely no lottery at the time .... I'd have been buying tickets after those experiences

I've done that at Pacific enough times that now, even after I have paid, they will sometimes shout at me as I'm walking out the door :o

And to the OP, here's another "well done" for your honesty and concern for others property.

What I was afraid of

With the no smoking ban taking effect, and having to go outside for a smoke, what I was afraid of did happen to me last Friday night at a weekly tournament. I came back in from my smoke, and my break/jump cue, which was in my cue holder with my playing cue at a table, was gone.

I found it a couple of tables over being used by some banger that did not know better, and asked him what he thought he was doing? That the cue was mine (has a phenolic tip and he didn't know any different), and got it back. What is wrong with people? Don't they know that a cue in a cue holder at a table belongs to someone?

What is the answer to this problem? I don't want to break my cues down everytime I go out for a smoke. Should the owner do something to inform his patrons not to grab a cue at a table or in a cue holder ever? This is a problem on busy weekend nights!

Thats great a few people are still that honest. Around here people would steal a empty beer if they thought they are getting over on someone.

Last year I found a Gulyassy Sledgehammer and turned it over to the front desk. Year before that when I bought my first Its George case, it came with a nice titlist conversion that the previous owner forgot to take out. I immediately contact the owner to let him know I was mailing it back. Until I e-mailed him, he wasn't aware it was gone.

At Amsterdam Billiards, one time I was distracted and instead of putting my cue in the locker, I left it out. When I came back from lunch, it was still there.

So someone in the room has a Palmer and you don't know who it is? Seriously, you could take me to any pool room within a hundred mile radius of where I'm at right now and I could tell you which cue belongs to which player. More often than not I remember a person's cue before remembering their name.

Lets hope so, it would be a shame other wise, but it does happen. Since I opened my pool room in 2004, I have had a number of high end cues along with cases, and many other items left by customers. To date I still have cues behind the counter that have never been claimed, a couple are McDermotts in the $150 to $300 price range and a number of other lower end cues. They will be here until they are claimed or I close or sell the business, being near a Military base you never know when a soldier had to deploy and will be back some day.

Thank God, you found my Palmer. My dad bought that cue in 1974 and it means the world to me. I slipped in there last night and was showing it around to some of the guys and forgot to put it back in my case.

I left town early this morning and didn't discover it missing from my case until this evening when I went to my local pool room.

Can you ship it to me? I promise to pay for shipping, just let me know what it is. Thanks again, if you need my shipping address, just PM me for it. Your friend dippy is in your debt.

So someone in the room has a Palmer and you don't know who it is?

Mully,

I wasn't in the room for no more than a few minutes when this happened. I had been shooting league in another place and had just stopped in for a few minutes to speak with the manager when I struck up a conversation with a player whose team had been playing league in the hall where the cue was left. There was no one left in the place but a couple of teens playing on a table in the corner, a couple of bangers using house cues.
