Sponsor For US Mosconi Cup Team

Ok well don't hold your breath waiting for the call.

But hopefully this thread will generate something positive.

Yes JB. I know it is a long shot. Mark was in lengthy discussions with two large corporations but when the time came, they both stood down.

Many of you know, I run my own tour. Been featured on outlets such as the Golf Channel, Rolling Stone, can reach out directly to 200,000 unique people a month and have never found a sponsor. I had the sponsor fairy knock on my door and a contact you made a nice income on Internet business gives me $200 a month for streaming. Hopefully something on a larger scale is done for the Mosconi Cup team and pool in general.

If anyone wants to help the US Mosconi Cup team on an individual basis: (as I have received a few PMs on this)

Team USA is seeking members who are positive minded, want to win the 2014 Mosconi Cup, promote the sport, and willing to participate in Pool Awareness Week, November 2-9.

Those who sacrifice and join the movement will be awarded the Official Team Patch with a $25 membership. The entire amount of funds raised will go to training and promotion of the sport, 100%.

You say that like it is a good thing...

Do you know where Team Europe will be? In Japan competing with the best players in the world on the international pool scene.

That is why Team Europe pulled away from the USA in the first place. They put themselves out there and play at the highest level the sport has to offer and the players in the USA did not.

Now SVB, the only guy the USA has that actually plays proper professional pool on the world stage is skipping a key international event with a world class field?

That is another step in the wrong direction folks.

With respect, I disagree.

I believe Wilson's attempt to rejuvenate the sense of 'team' in the US players has the chance to notch more racks in this year's event than sending SVB out to Japan. Sending all five however, now that would be two birds with one stone.

Moving forward of course, you're obviously right that the gap has been created by the lack of elite competition.

Your post is a post just to be negative. Your right, SVB hasn't played in any international events this year and playing in the Japan Open would have gotten him fine tuned for the Mosconi Cup. And Bergman, who arguably had the second best year in pool this year for a US player should go out back to his money tree and get the funds to go to Japan. Or maybe he should just ask his sponsor -- oh wait, he doesn't have one.

I would respectfully suggest that you or Mark Wilson or any of the staff put out a BLAST on Facebook offering sponsorship levels. Gold level for this amount gets this autographed poster of Team USA and Team Europe; silver level for this amount gets a Mosconi Cup baseball cap and/or a group photo; bronze level for $25 gets Offical Team Patch.

You will reach MANY more people on Facebook with money to spend than you will here on this forum. ;)

That said, I don't know how to do a BLAST on Facebook, but I have seen others do it, so it is possible. Shane Van Boening, for instance, must have close to 5,000 friends on Facebook. If he were to do a BLAST on his Facebook account, you might be surprised, Birthday Boy, at the response.

Oh, wait. That's tomorrow. Happy Early Birthday, Watchez! :grin-square:

sponsership

First im glad Mark doesnt come on here he would be subjected to constant criticism of his picks and not about his goals. Putting some class in the game should draw sponsors .Whats a real shame is the pool industry doesnt step up.For less than $50,000 you could have your name on every thing .If every AZmember kick in we could even do it.If we all bought products from a sponsor they might step up .But american pool is all about gambling . When all you care about is getting the cash integrity goes out the window. Mark is trying to put a team that puts integrity out there to pull in sponsors and the public. go MARK. Go U.S.A.

Thanks JAM. Is that cake arriving UPS? Is it chocolate?

Mark has posted on Facebook under the US Mosconi Cup Team page. I did give him a lesson the other night in social media marketing and how people 'tag' someone like SVB or Bergman who have 4000 friends so all of them see any post made by someone who might not be their friend. Mark wasn't aware how that worked so I am sure you will see more of it. There are a few events for the Mosconi Cup team here in the US that he will be promoting soon as well.

And let's not forget Mark still has his Lindenwood team. The player list for the team is well over 20 and they have a big match coming up in Michigan soon. To me, it seems that Mark has had more needed responsibility put on him this year by the social media public than any US Mosconi capt in the past. And Mark has gone above and beyond what anyone could imagine. Last year Archer and Hall simply showed up in Vegas with the others.

while playing longshots . . .

I'm sure you know that this is the time to be chasing a sponsor for next year's MC team or even several years out. More looking for a sugar daddy type deal for this year's sponsorship, somebody that can throw out a hundred grand just for grins.

Some thoughts for seeking real sponsorship but obviously this isn't the thread for them. I'm going to throw out one more longshot quick cash idea, crowdsourcing. I only recently became aware there are hundreds or thousands of these sites, not just kickstarter. I think at least one of them specializes in donations and raising funds for causes. People raise cash for good things and bad, the ones that are successful may not have the best cause, they just wrote a couple of paragraphs that entertained, amused, or touched enough people to get the job done.

From what I know of crowd funding it usually involves a fixed price and a finite time to get there which is usually very short. A few weeks or a month seems common. Often trinkets like the patches and team membership are tossed out on these crowd funding sites. Anybody know the best site or two to pitch this?

I think crowd funding is usually free unless you reach your goal. Something like 5% is paid if you succeed.

Just one more thought that might be worth a shot.

Speaking of thoughts worth a shot, how about installing Mark as captain of the cup team for at least a three year commitment? Trying to make a team out of a bunch of individualists stands a far better chance as a multi-year project as does securing sponsorship.

Mark needs to start earlier in marketing the team. There needs to be some advertising via the already established leagues including but not limited to the BCA and APA. Perhaps setting up a fund site where people can donate to. The team needs to do a lot better for anyone to seriously commit funds for the American Mosconi Cup Members. Maybe a national voting system to nominate the team like the All-star Teams in baseball and etc. Something that generates fan interest and perhaps some funding.

Thank you Watchez and Mark Wilson for your efforts and thoughts.

Degenerate pool fan Ken.;)

as soon as I complete my plan on how to get Indians, (the Asian variety), to wear socks I'll get right to work on this one !!

:D :p

Agreed. All 5 should be over there.

If you set it so we can donate online you got me. Paypal or one of those sites that does this type of thing. I don't do checks anymore.

John, you should do a one-of-a-kind cue case and donate it for a raffle. Dedicate to the 2014 Mosconi Cup. That would be really cool!

Each ticket could be, say, $10 to win a beautiful custom-made case. I'd buy a few raffle tickets at $10 apiece. If you make the raffle ticket too high a price, nobody will bite, but for $5 or $10, there might be a little nibbles that add up.

Tax deduction for you, John. ;)

Cool idea.

And on the question of tax deductibility, does anyone know if there has been a 501C3 charity formed to support the US Mosconi cup team? i.e. if we make a donation (small or large) would it be tax deductible? Or would the Mosconi Cup not be considered an amateur pursuit?

Yes agree at this late stage, need a sugar daddy who small change to throw around
How about Steve Ballmer? He will recover $1billion com tax break on his $2billion Clippers buy.

His late need quick strategies- how about getting POTUS involved? Seal vet Amir will know someone who knows someone who has access to O.
Just an endorsement from O or White House appearnce by team should drive fundraising and sponsorship money up the roof and get them on all the morning talk shows maybe even the late nigh shows. O should have some time since the Dems do not want him near their reelection campaign this year and I am sure he would like to pick up some tips on the table

I can let you know that SVB is skipping the Japan Open, a points event that possibly could cost him the #1 ranking, so he can be with the US team from Nov 21st til they leave for England.

Picking up where Celtic left off, I find this ridiculous. Shane's attainment of the WPA #1 ranking would do more for the image of American pool than anything that could happen at the Mosconi. It has been quite a long time since an American stood atop the WPA rankings, and American performance in the major WPA ranking events like the China Open, the Japan Open and the World 9-ball Championships has been generally dismal.

Shane is playing the best pool of his life and should strike in Japan while the iron is hot.

If Shane is doing this to look like a good team player, Bergman, Hall, Schmidt and Deuel should do everything in their power to tell him otherwise and to encourage him to play in the WPA Japan Open. Shane is a good team player whether he goes to Japan or not.

To be honest, this move isn't what you'd expect of Shane, who committed himself to playing in all the big overseas WPA rankings events last year, and surely has his sights on becoming the WPA #1 ranked player, which would bring great esteem and attention to American pool.

Facebook? Making money? Promoting something for you're own interest?
What kind of dreamer are you? Poor boy!
