and make a livin' out of playing pool. - Maggie May by Rod Stewart

What other pool references are there in songs that you know of?

How have they influenced you? Do you snap to some romantic fantasy of you running the roads and snapping off scores like I do when I hear this line?

Not really about pool but cards ,Bob Segar , Still the same. The line " there you stood everybody watched you play, i just turned and walked away, i had nothing left to say, your still the same. I can hear my ex's voice loud and clear.

I've always been a fan of the song "pool shark" by Sublime. Kind of a sad song about drug addiction and how it eventually took the life of Bradley Nowell. Not really about pool other than the line "my baby likes to shoot pool", which is repeted throughout the song.

I also like this old hiphop song that happens to have a cool line.
Pete Rock & CL Smooth - "all the places" has a line: "members only, shootin' pool like Willie Mosconi"

Toby Keith

Song: "As good as I once was"

Lyrics: "Got in a tight spot, hustlin' a game of pool"

"The Pool Shark" & "The Baron"

"The Pool Shark" (different than the above song) by Dave Dudley was the only # 1 song he ever had. "Six Days On The Road" only got to # 2.

"The Baron" by Johnny Cash.

Several other country songs had casual references to pool.

Nobody lays it down better than Jim Croce:

When I saw the title, I was trying to rack my brain to think of anything...I can't believe I couldn't even come up with this one! This is one of my all-time favorite Croce songs...along with about a dozen or so more of his! :p

"we're gonna skip some school, play some pool, act real cool, stay out all night, it's gonna be alright. So Rosie come out tonight.." Rosalita by the Boss.
"In the pool halls; the hustlers, and the losers, I used to watch them through the glass..." Main street by Bob Seger.

"Cowboys like smoky old pool rooms and cool mountain mornings," Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings, from "Mamas, don't let your Babies Grow up to be Cowboys."

Tell me is the crack of the poolballs, neon buzzin?
Telephone's ringin'; it's your second cousin
Is it the barmaid that's smilin' from the corner of her eye?
Magic of the melancholy tear in your eye.

"The Heart of Saturday Night" - Tom Waits

Not really about pol but this song has the line "oh can't you see, you belong to me, I'm a pool hall ace, and every step you take..." - Every breath you take, The Police

Pool Hall Richard by the Faces. It is the best description of the hustle of a pool player and the ego around the pool hall I have ever heard in a song.

The best and only song dedicated to pool.

If I ever make it to a pro event I am wearing a yellow carnation and a pink satin suit, just because of this song. (Good thing I will never play in a pro event)

PS, Ronnie Wood (now of Stones fame) and Keith Richards have brought along a full size snooker table on tour with them. I am sure Mr. Wood had an influence on the lyrics from his younger days of playing in pubs and halls around England.
