****stolen 1953 balabuska**** dallas, tx.

did you guys all miss this post

That's is in Japan where the cues are originally from... I was thinking I could get a better price and ship it over, but we're close to raising enough to buy a new one in the US, which would be easier and get delivered mich sooner.

thanks guys so much and Merry Christmas, I will let Gene know what's happening here, i'm sure he will be very humbled by it, although he probably won't accept. It's still very heartening, cant wait to pass this along

thank you

Thanks for what you are doing for your friend Gene. I'm pretty sure I remember him from my trips to Texas. I wish you would post a photo of him.
If you can find a replacement cue (GB-2 or GB-3) I will be glad to pay the difference from what you have raised here to what you still need to buy it. Thanks again for being a good friend to Gene. We should all respect our elders like you are right now.

What about this cue for him. Its a Buska style cue that looks pretty nice. I don't know if your trying to just get the modle GB-2 or GB-3 but it seems like a nice cue.

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=379776

will first be looking at trying to match his GB-2.

thanks guys!!!

I'll make some inquiries tmrw and if anyone gets a hot lead on a gb-2, please forward what you have.

best,
brian kc

Your post, especially that last bit finally broke the camels back for me. We should respect our elders even when they lie and deceive us? I'm sorry if my words are harsh. But this guy who had his cue stolen perpetuated a lie for so long people believed him. Are we supposed to immediately feel sorry for someone who had their cue stolen just because they're old and "well liked"? He lied and deceived to make friends/get people to talk to him.

It's a shame there's a thief out there with his cue. But I just cannot help shake the feeling that I have. A feeling that tells me that I don't feel remorse for someone's lie being exposed. I just believe this is karma. I'm sorry I'm saying this, but I just can't help shake the feeling that this was brought on by his lies and had he not lied he'd still have his cue. Something just irks me about supporting a guy who has deceived everyone he knows.

this isn't my battle and I know you were quoting Jay's comment as the final straw for you, but...

please consider that we have reliable reports that this man is a very nice guy.

Add to that the fact he is a veteran and he is elderly.

If all of the above is accurate then I am inclined to give him a pass and not because I think it's okay to lie, but rather, because I believe in giving someone like this the benefit of the doubt.

It could be as innocent as him simply being forgetful or a little confused.

I sure wouldn't like it if he was knowingly bs'ing people but with what we do know, I'm liking the idea of getting him fixed back up.

Merry Christmas. :)

Hit 'em hard, I see where you're coming from, but it doesn' t make a difference to me what the story is. Whether or not it was Balabushka and whether he in fact knew it or not, worst case scenario would be that he told a harmless story about a cue to get some attention and make conversation with his fellow pool buddies.

Either way, a war veteran and well-respected member of a pool community did not deserve to have his prized cue stolen.

wow, guys i dont even know what to say !!! thank you so much. I will get a picture of Gene asap and post it up. I don't think he has seen this thread, so I'm debating on telling or just surprising him ?

I would say to surprise him. Just let him know that a secret Santa is watching out for him and is bring him a new cue this Christmas. :). I'd love to be there to see the look on his face when you tell him.

You know man , I don't really know how to respond to this post. If you knew Gene, I feel 100% confident you would have a different opinion of the man. The man that's helps local hustlers by loaning them one of his "extra" schons, has loaned money to local players ( the ones that don't work to be able to pay him back ).

I haven't even told him that it appears that his cue in not what he claims. Honestly , I dont even care. I do not believe he perpetuated a lie. At this point I think he may be mistaken. He is old ,and I watch my grandmother's memory and recollection fade as well before she passed.

In this case I think you should have kept your opinion to yourself. But hey..... That's just my opinion.

hit em harder !!

Merry Christmas !

Don't be so disconcerted by his response, he's always angry about something. Go to his profile and hit "replies" & you will see there is a pattern to his anger.

What you are trying to do is a wonderful selfless act. It mirrors not only how we should comport ourselves at this time of the year but at all times. May the rolls always be with you for your kindness. Happy Holidays to you.

Okay guys; there has been some developments overnight.

Really good ones.

I have received a number of pm's and we have an another person wanting to donate whatever might be needed to make this happen so between his and Jay's kind offers plus the other pledges already made, we are all set on funding. :)

And what could top that, you ask?

Here's what:

In another pm I rec'd an offer for an Adam Bushka tribute that is even nicer than the one that was stolen from Gene.

My first thought was I think it would be nice to get one as close as poss to what Gene had but my mind may have been changed.

The cue that has been offered is an Adam HOF model CS-434 which retails for $900.

The big upside to this cue is that it was made in Japan by Adam and like Gene's cue, it *does not* have the gaudy balabushka signature on it. An fyi, their current balabuskas are made in China.

This one looks just like Genes did but with inlays and nickel rings, and it is *brand new*.

I think it's gorgeous; what do you guys think?

see it here:

Oh, and did I mention that the az member offering it is willing to provide it to us for $400?

We may have Gene's problem solved - even upgraded..

AZ has some incredibly generous people.

Wow, looks good to me.

I am just waiting for txstang1 to let me know if he thinks Gene will like this one and, if so, I just need txstangs shipping address and we'll get this done.

Once that is all set, I will provide a breakdown on this thread on who needs to send me what amount according to our pledges.

And we'll get-r-done.

Nice going az!

thanks guys.
