****stolen 1953 balabuska**** dallas, tx.

Payment sent!
Apparently there is no gifting option for payments out of Japan, so I added a little extra to cover Paypal fees.

Thanks to Kickin Chicken and everyone for getting it done, and so quickly!

Okay guys; we got action!

I sent paypal payment for Gene's replacement cue; I sent it as a gift so it was $412 total with their fee.

I offered the az member who is making us this great deal for the cue that we could cover shipping and he said, no, he'll also take care of that. :thumbup:

I asked him if he minded if I mentioned who he is and he said he didn't care one way or the other so I will because he deserves credit and notice for his generosity. This is az member cuesterpat. Thank you Pat!

The cue will be shipped Monday to txstang1 (Steve) in TX via USPS Priority Mail and he should have it in time for their Thursday night presentation to Gene.

So, I need to collect $412 minus my $20 pledged making the magic number needed now $392.

Just below is the list of who needs to pay and how much.

But Before You Do...

***PLEASE*** when you send payments to me via paypal, do so as a gift or to family & friends so I don't get hit with fees.

***ALSO VERY IMPORTANT*** When sending paypal payment you MUST put in the note section your az name and that it's for Gene's cue.

Okay, you can go ahead and send your payments to my paypal acct which is BCLyme@aol.com

kickin' chicken = $20 - paid
Tate = $50
ibuycues =$20
victorl = $20
texdance = $20
bbb = $20
Mikjary = $25 - paid
daylate$short = $20
bigjay = $25
pt109 = $20
asiasdad = $30 - paid
Colonel = $20
Ty-Tanic = $30
Cardiac kid = $20
ScottR = $20
DJ66 = $25
dvs = $20 - paid
jay helfert = $7

If you indicated that you would pay by check or money order, please pm me for my mailing address.

I will call on our back up pledges to help out if anyone listed above doesn't follow through on what they've pledged.

txstang1, thanks for bringing this problem up here on az and giving the good people here a chance to right a wrong.

I really like the picture you posted of Gene with his Marlboro Golds and cup of coffee ready to sweat some action. I can't wait to see the pics from when he gets his new cue.

To everyone who pledged and to cuesterpat, all of you guys rock! :thumbup: :cool:

To whomever it was who stole Gene's cue, I hope you get what you deserve, soon. :angry:.

best,
brian kc

Just sent you my 30 dollars viva Paypal. It is awesome to see the pool community coming together to help out a fellow pool player. I haven't had the privilege to me Gene but I whole heartily believe that he deserves this cue and I am very happy to help out a vet that has served our country.

update:

so far, 8 of the 18 guys who pledged have paid.

Thank you!!! :thumbup:

I will continue to update the pledge list on post #112 as payments are received.

best,
brian kc

Is this an entry for the last scam of the year? George was not selling cues in 1957 and was probably not giving them away. Where is Gene Burns dd 214? A pool cue may not be the only thing stolen.

fwiw
i sent a red rep to you
with the comment
we are helping a vet ...cmon man

Any luck on a case for his replacement? I'm a bit tapped having to pay my 3 dime copay for next week's surgery but can help some.

Brian,

Payment sent, plus a little extra to make sure fees, etc are covered by me. Thanks again for doing this. A special act.

pt.....paid....via my buddy's PayPal...he finally got time 'cause he got knocked out of the
tournament just short of the money.
Then he phoned me back to ask me if a Diamond banked narrow or wide compared to
a Gold Crown.
I told told him I preferred to call it long or short, but a Diamond banks short or narrow..
...relatively.
I heard him say "Nooooooooo!....you just cost me $20."

Just another day at the pool hall.....:smile:

Update

Okay guys, here's the updated list on pledges rec'd.

We have rec'd 13 of 18 thus far - not too shabby considering it's holiday time with all of the associated distractions, etc.

Any of the remaining guys who need info on my paypal can refer to post #112 for instructions.

Thanks to all for getting this project done.

Thanks BBB, I think of vets all year long not just at Holiday time. Acting on a rumor heard in a karaoke bar about an uninsured Balabushka being stolen should raise all kinds of red flags for you.
Lets hope the story is true and you are doing a good thing.

There's probably very few on AZ more wary of scams and scammers than yours truly.

With that said, I know we can never be 100% sure, but I take comfort in having authenticity reports from 2 trusted az members.

And we will be getting pictures of the cue being presented to this gentleman.

Add to this the fact that the op didn't come on here looking for a new cue. He came on to report a stolen cue and while there was some confusion over what the old vet had, the op was simply reporting a theft, putting the word out and getting advice on checking at pawn shops, etc. He provided pics of the cue that was stolen.

It was me, the wary one, who felt comfortable and convinced enough to ask felllow az members to join me to try and "make lemonade from this lemon".

I believe it's real and worthy of our support and it's pretty much a done deal now.

He will have his cue this week.

Thanks for pointing out the possibility of scamming, seriously, I appreciate it. I, too, am always concerned for that sort of thing.

best,
brian kc

Update

Here is another excellent update:

Aside from having rec'd 14 of the 18 pledged payments plus confirmation that 1 is being mailed, we have another bit of great news.

I was talking with cuesterpat this morning and he said he wants to ship the cue in a brand new 1 x 2 Porper case. Another round of applause for you, Pat! Thank you, sir. :thumbup:

I have updated the pledge list below and there are just 3 that remain unpaid. I know a couple haven't been on in a couple of days so no worries.

Any of the remaining guys who need info on my paypal can refer to post #112 for instructions.

Hi fellas, ive been lurking on this thread for a while but havent responded yet.
For Veterans, the pool table carries a lot of memories. I know this because some of my happiest memories with pals while in port were hanging out playing pool. The laughs, jokes, friends... I can recall in an instant. Every new part of the world we went there was always a pool table, from australia to tahiti to antarctica to alaska, we could always be found playing a few racks. I can only imagine losing a cue, no matter what the make/model, that has a history to the owner, and what a sense of loss it is. Every ding or scratch, a memory. It had character and history to the guy, and that can never be restored.

But here with what you are doing, raising money for a new cue, will help keep the joy this veteran found in this game-its a great service you all are doing. Maybe with this new cue, it can serve as token of our appreciation for his service, but at the same time, remind him of his old cue and those memories he had with it. Trading something special for something special. Bravo gentlemen.

I sent my $20 to BCLyme@aol.com through paypal. Good to go!

I could be wrong but I believe that is a Palmer cue. I have one exactly like it.... doesn't matter what it is, a low life stole it...... You can count me in for 20 bucks.... hit me up at the Billiard Den and I will give you the money.

Stolen Cue

I just wanted to post a correction to Brian's update. The cue is being shipped in a Porper 1x1 case, not a 1x2. It is already packaged and will be going out tomorrow.

Pat,

Doesn't matter to me. Thanks for the help curing this problem.

I was at Billiard Den yesterday and heard a tidbit about how the cue was stolen. I don't know Gene, but what I heard was he walked out if the pool hall (and went home I believe) forgetting the cue. He went back later but could not find it.

There are security cameras inside, on the ceiling. I'm not sure what was seen on those. The Billiard Den is a cool place but it's in an old bombed out looking strip mall and I doubt there are cameras in the parking lot.

Have you gotten all the promised cash yet?
I can kick in if it is short....

* wish I had started this crap earlier *
