Stuff Like This Destroys My Enthusiasm......

DCP........ you are on my ignore list. I am done with you.........

Maybe some day you will learn to be more positive, learn to accept the rolls the pool gods give you (yes, it happens to ALL of us) and learn from all the great advice here.

And with this nugget you make my ignore list as well.I have know idea how to use it,or how it works, but take pride in the fact that we will take this journey together.

I've taken a minute or two (as many have) to explain how we approach the game so we ENJOY it.I'll not go into it now,but you sir have missed it.Small picture, big picture,whatever....you are always gonna suck cuz you miss the greater good.

Try ping pong or bowling...and find some forums where you can express how your luck screwed you yet again and again and again....

They will probably suggest pool.

Good Gawd....Have we just defined the online nit? I think perhaps we have.

I'd wish you good rolls brother, but we both know better...

Yea, what he said, ping pong. Actually, that's what I played before I got into pool, and no DCP, just because I am saying this doesn't mean you can come to me for help when you hit the ball off the table...

i suppose what really frustrated me was that, as i have stated before, i break and break and never get any decent rolls off the break. it frustrated me, and then i had this layout and thought i might FINALLY/POSSIBLY have a chance to run out if i could somehow break up the 4-3 cluster. so i hit a pretty good shot, sending the cue ball into the 4-3 cluster, and once again for the 50th time that night i didn't get a roll.

oh well. but i aint gonna give up.

DCP

My only advice to you is to stop thinking so damn hard about the game. Love it and it will love you back. Remember, the games aren't over until the last ball is dropped. So don't say "woa is me, I'm unlucky" cus that's bullshit. There's no such thing. The balls roll funny and we all live with it. Stating that you're unlucky is just creating a self fulfilling prophecy that you will get bad rolls and you will lose.

You said that you aren't gonna give up but do you really believe it or do you only say that here? Posting cue table diagrams is of no help because between everyone on this forum we've played eleventy-billion different runs and layouts, that is the greatness of pool. The next time you break the rack it will be an entirely different look.

Truly, truly, what I think you should do is go back to square one. Lose the ego and whatever you think you know about the game. Practice those easy shots until they are so burned in you brain that you see angles and banks while you are in the bathroom. There's no shame in rehashing your fundamentals. If your bank-cluster break was no good for you then take a step back and show us the shot that stopped the cue ball where it is in the diagram and then play that shot so you don't have to bank it into the cluster like that. Make it easier.

And for every moment you spend posting layouts and answering replies in AZ, go to the pool hall and practice the shot. You're gonna be surprised at how much you improve.

Don't take my curtness as rudeness though, cus I'm just trying to give it to you straight. I hope you do improve, and I know you will. But the next time I see a DCP post with a cue table layout in it, I hope its of the crazy shot you made instead of missed. Happy shooting, bro.

I will be in Jasper area (Southern Indiana) on Labor Day weekend.

I would meet to play some 9 ball if you have time, Saturday would be the best date for me.

I would like to see some of the bad rolls for myself.

I will then report back to AZ as to whether this situation is unique to DCP or just needs improved attitude and a different approach to the game.

FYI - I am a fair player who has some knowledge of the game. Capable of putting a rack or two together but not quite a world beater.

PM or post if you want to play some.

As I stated in another post, DCP is probably an internet hustler and it looks like he has finally got a Bite!!! Looks like Elvicash has taken the bait!!! Call "The Action Report for PPV coverage!
Heck, it's in Indiana so it is in Justins back yard. LETS GET IT ON!!

I'm down.

Better be quick though I am headed off for sunny South Dakota Friday.

I believe elvicash is fairly handy with the steel himself. (I mean camera, but steel sounded really cool right there)

All the forum members gave syou good advise and reading them should help.I just got done practicing that shot for 2 hours all different ways you should also. There are many aspects to the game and many ways to play the game, there is no wright or wrong as long as you can gat out or improvise.AS you will see I happens to the best of us.Don't give in bear down and hit the balls. You will learn whento do what.I told my friend one time when we were playing some scotch doubles [don't ask] why he took a shot,he siad he was playing to win,I said no your not you gave them this game.WE wone the set and he said worked out and I replyed at 100 a man were up 5 -2 you don't take that shot you could have cost us another set with the time we spent.the set went 7 -5 but we wasted time.I wish I could diagram and post the shot but I can't get the diagram to transfer??Any help and I'll post the example.

Thank god you are not a woman. I now know I can never date someone who whines as much as you!

Just kidding. Kind of.

DCP,
You are losing a lot of posters who gave you some of the best advice you could get. Maybe you should take some of their advice now before you find yourself on everyone's ignore list. It wouldn't be any fun to sit here all day and post to yourself...

Actually, maybe that's not a bad idea. At least everyone involved in your thread could whine and sympthasize together for your horrible "luck"...

In the last few months I've had a thyroid problem (went away on it's own), got assaulted by some thugs who tried to rob me while I was jogging (they ran away when I started throwing punches) and had all the copper stolen out of my house after I moved out and put it on the market (try selling a house in the ghetto in this market).

But I now realize how lucky I've been because the three ball didn't get stuck behind the four ball.

Al, sorry to hear about your troubles. Glad your health is better.

I had copper stolen out of a house I once owned in the hood. Taint fun and that crap is expensive! I hear a penny cost 1-1/2 cents to make and most of that is not copper but zinc! That type of theft hurts hurts everyone, of course, as you know.

At least you didn't get stuck behind the 8-ball! That would have been reason to quit playing. :D

Not really that big of a deal except that I'm trying to sell the house and it's a little hard to convince someone to buy a house that has had all the copper ripped out of it. If I replace it before I get a buyer it's just a target to get vandalized again.

But nobody got hurt so it's all good. I lived there for 30 years and I guess I was in denial as to how bad the neighborhood had become. At one time it was a nice place to live. Getting jumped by the thugs was the best thing that could have happened, gave me a wake up call to get the hell out of there.

And, my 9' A E Schmidt looks nice next to the fireplace in my new pool room.

DCP,
Yes, I thought you were kidding. This example was in no way, shape, or form a bad roll (you have whitey going through about 6 feet of "no mans land" - hard to expect much good to come of this even if you hit the cluster).

Danny DiLiberto has weighed in on the "bad roll" issue in a very entertaining manner, and I think you will find it very interesting. I'll try to post a thread later tonight or tomorrow about his thoughts on the existence of "bad rolls". He has a tremendous philosophy - a champion's philosophy; one that we all would do well to emulate.

DCP, I think people know you're serious, that's why it's disturbing.

Here's how I think many people see you -
Imagine you walked to work every day and passed a homeless guy. About 100 days out of the year, it rains where you live. Every time the guy gets hit with rain he flips out and yells about it to all the passerby.

You think "why is he acting all upset, hasn't he had rainwater touch him before? Does he think getting a little wet is so weird and bad?"

You think "why is he so shocked by this? Hasn't he noticed this place gets rain about 1 day out of every 3? It's like it's a surprise every time it happens to him even though he's been living here 10 years"

You think "even if he doesn't have the resources to buy a house, why doesn't he stand under that awning right over there, where he can avoid the rain?!"

This crazy guy has the same reaction whether he gets hit by a 30 second sunshower or a downpour, it's always a crisis.

Maybe you even tell him "tomorrow it's gonna rain, you should keep over there so you can be dry", and then you're bewildered when he's standing in the same spot the next day and wailing the same way.

...STOP ME BEFORE I BEAT THIS ANALOGY TO DEATH~~

The point is, what you look at as weirdly unlucky is actually a normal everyday amount of luck, and a lot of it (almost all of it) is actually something you can control and change.

So DCP, why didn't you set the shot back up, and practice the alternat.....um.....the.......AHHHHHHHH!!!!!! EJECT! EJECT! EJECT!

Firstly, if you call the shot on the 2 a hard shot, you need to rethink some things.

Secondly, there are some who would duck here, but if you are afraid to get offensice or aggressive here, you need to take up a different game.

Thirdly, there are nearly as many bad rolls in pool as there are bad decisions or bad planning.
I agree. A safe on the 2 is no good unless it puts you in position for a 3 foul or to break out the 3 with ball in hand. You can break out the 3 from where you are so imo you MUST shoot at this ball for the breakout. Just try and hit the rail first next time.

Two Things...

First, there really isn't such a thing as a bad roll. Cue balls go where they are told.

Second, I want to draw the opponent who NEVER plays defense and thinks that if you aren't aggressive and on the go all the time then you should take up another sport.

Forget about those bad rolls, guys.

No, on second thought, analyze that bad roll and ask yourself, "Am I sure I hit the cueball with centerstroke?"

Yours Very Truly,
The Woim
