Overhead camera please the commentators can switch to when they can't see the angle of the shot.

Pro-player as color guy/gal maybe.

Put a person from both camps in the booth for a game or two ( early games ) .

The commentators have two monitors in the Booth. One has the program feed going out on the stream. The other is a constand feed from the overhead camera. No need for them to switch its always there all they have to do is look at it.

Some shots you just can't tell.

As for commentary the journey continues.

Thanks for the Podcast very informative, That was Awesome. Wish I lived in Vegas, I would have been your butler for anything help you needed. :)

how about some close up shots on the players strokes, mechanics during the matches, different angles?

posting there mph on the breaks and on regular shots?

a lot of close ups of the table action so it feels like im sitting 5 feet away?

im just giving some ideas and trying to help

Overhead camera for the audience. The TAR director (Justin I assume) could switch to that view anytime. That would make viewing more interesting.

Here are my pet peeves about commentators:

1. I assume most viewers are heavy pool enthusiasts, so stop saying juvenile things like:

a. "Now what he wants to do is get shape on the 5 ball"
b. "He will use a draw shot here to get a good angle"
c. "oh, what he wanted to do is get a better angle on the 7 ball to get shape on the 8"
d. "oh he is tough on the 10 but he will be ok"

2. I'm sure it is difficult to find the best commentators. I think Mark did a good job along with the BCA guy (sorry forgot his name). I would rather have Justin in the booth along with someone that is also knowledgeable than two people (girl/boy) that sound like they are just chit chatting at a bar, drinking a beer and chuckling and saying "cool" and cute things only.

I know some will say that if you don't like it, just turn off the sound. I wish sometimes I could turn off the talk but I do love the sounds of pool (sound of the balls and an occasional miscue and a player saying something or the crowd saying "WOW!" etc. and some background music.

Others, of course, may disagree because they want a different entertainment value but please just keep commentary simple with less words per rack. If you think that the match is boring or that the play somehow needs to be filled with mindless chatter and predictions, then perhaps there really is something fundamentally flawed with pool match-ups and it is just a (sport) that will never take off big time.

I do really like TAR and they are the best at what they do. You have the very best players in the world, bring up the best in every aspect of these matches! I know it is tough and with Mark and Justin and others, you will do great! At least as great as it can be.

Don't know how many of you have noticed but TAR broadcasts are virtually a one man show. Justin works his ass off to do what he does. Until more people start purchasing TAR matches then you will not see much improvement. Like Nathan posted regarding his new DVD from Runout Media, some things take more time/money than they add value. Not to say that some suggestions here would take too much effort. There are several things that would increase the production value but as for increasing overall entertainment value?? Nah...not for me....

I like TAR because it is flat out raw. Just 2 players in a room playing for the cheese. That's entertainment at it's finest to me. I would have watched this past match if Justin was holding a lantern over the table providing light. Believe me, no one and I mean no one knows how far they would like to see TAR matches progress as much as Justin. I for one am thankful for what we do have and won't beat Justin up...and trust me I have when it comes to getting old footage on video!!! Find the positives out of this guys...

Gary<------looking forward to TAR 25

I really like the idea of a 16 man long race tourney like svb and jcin talked about on the last podcast. Run 4 matches on Wensday, Thursday and Friday. Semis on Saturday and finals on Sunday. Race to 19,21 for semis and 25 for the finals. A shot clock would be a must.

It's easy for me to say this, but the logistics would be very tough. Where do you get the added money? Where do you find a date where players are available and will people even buy the stream.

Just as an aside, I was watching some very early TAR clips and it really is unbelievable how much the production value has improved. JCIN deserves all the praise he may get. It's really a compliment when I say the early stuff is almost unwatchable by comparison.

That table and room was built to hold the final of the JS vs. DH trilogy. I suspect both have something to prove to the masses and each other. This would give all the major big boy games some viewing.

Before someone spouts off about 8ball. SVB said it best. Not for the pros on a 9 footer. His words but I agree.

Are they both playing still? Sorry I have not heard anything of either. That would be a very good matchup again if they were both in top form.

I have finally come around to accepting the near fact that 8 ball is the way to go for the pros. I really don't care what the pros think is best for them. I don't think there are too many marketing experts amongst the pro ranks. Also, I don't think any of them would boycott an 8 ball tournament because they prefer a different game.

I personally think 10 ball is the best overall test of skill for them but so what. I've been playing a little bit of bar box 8 ball lately with mainly league players and I bet 90 percent of these guys think 9 ball is a joke (and 10 ball by extension). I have my own opinion of why most of these guys don't like 9 ball -- most of them can't play it, but that's besides the point.

Anyways, Celtic is right -- we need to see pros playing 8 ball on tight equipment. They might not love it but it's a more attractive game to the amateurs and it can be marketed to non players as well. Everybody knows what 8 ball is all about.

Well, that's all I have to say about that. Where's that Pros Need to Play 8 Ball Petition at???

Justin:

Have you thought about selling MP4 or FLV downloads of the matches as an alternative to DVDs? Low cost for you, and I think you might get several takers...

You could encode them to avoid people ripping them or trying to post them...

I personally would like to see JCIN do a short Veido of a TAR Studio Tour, kind of like an OPEN HOUSE to show those who will never get to see the inside of the TAR Studio, and idea of what the place has like equiptment, etc. for making the TAR Productions.

THIS!!!!

There are SO MANY past TAR matches that I'll likely never get to see because I was late to the game and everything is sold out. Also, I love pool and all, but a 12-disc box set is just too damn cumbersome to handle, but downloading a 10gig mp4 (or however large it would be) I can do that while I sleep then just start it up and watch it all day without having to fiddle with discs etc.

I would be ecstatic to get able to get the just raw video footage, no fancy post-production or even commentary would be necessary, just as long as there was the original room audio, I'd be one seriously happy camper.

I know Accu-stats has some sort of online video rental ability that I think TAR would greatly benefit from. I would rent all kinds of stuff. Also, offering a rental stream gets around the security problems with offering downloads.

my wife complains when she's watching pool on tv or a stream that she cant tell the 3 from the 5,2 from the 4, 6 or 7 from the 8,1 from the 9 and it takes away from following the skill involved in the game for her. I too have trouble sometimes following the game :(
