Super Billiards Ban from Playing!

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure Chip Compton played in the amateur open this year. If thats true that is the biggest joke I have ever heard. How could they let him play, and on top of that how pathetic is it that he would try in play in that event.

And anyway, can't we just pull the thread from last year, or the year before...the year before...before (echo-o-o-o-o)?

And 2 years ago Eric Durbin was allowed to play in it.....lol.

SBE Ban

I wrote this post for one reason only, and that was to try and come up with a better way to judge a players caliber!
The only way Pool can survive is to have players competing locally in their regional events such as the Joss Northeast 9 Ball tour which l have played for years!
Turning Stone being are top event attracts many local players, as well as some top pro players. Many of the regular members realize they have no chance of winning, but they and myself included love to try and snap off one great player!
I have made this a Family outing for my Wife & Son's as well as many friends who come to watch. I will continue to attend as long as I am not a complete embarrassment.

I want to apologize for using the words Snitch & Drop a Dime, but in my bit of anger, it does upset me that the staff told me many people went up and complained solely about my status. Very sorry if I offended anyone.

I did not write this to bash Allen Hopkin's for he has done more for Pool than most, and l have personally relayed this to him on many occasions!
You simply can not rate a Joss event, even though it is probably the best Pool Tournament in the world, run perfectly by Mike Zuglan, with Top Tier Pro events.
If you cash here, and then get put in Pro status, then the players will avoid local tournaments for fear of losing Amateur status.

This happened to me 2 years ago, and l talked with Allen about this, and he promised to remove Turning Stone as criteria for SBE. Allen did remove it, and l played in the Senior Amateur last year, and that is why l never even thought about my status again.
So for those who will just Post the eligibility list, and want to make it cut and dry, l am not buying it!
I think that Senior players have paid their dues, and should be allowed to compete regionally, as well as SBE!
I would be the first to rank myself as a Pro if I truly was, and nothing would personally be more satisfying if l could get there, but unfortunately it never happened : (

My Father owned a Pool Room for over 25 years, as well as a Billiard Supply business. I currently sell Pool cues, and have supported pool all my life. Please have some common courtesy to those that have payed their dues in this business.

I want to thank all who have posted in this thread publicly, either way you look at it! It is a public forum, and only a true discussion will solve the problem.
I also want to thank the many friends who have called, and written me privately!!!

Most of all to my Family, you are the light of my life!
To my good friends, thank you for your constant support!

As to Allen, I know he will be upset, as I am too, but I still consider you a pioneer of Pool, and hope we can come to a proper solution so this does not happen again!

Best regards,
Greg Antonakos

How about if you produced some sort of list of players excluded from the amateur events?

http://www.superbilliardsexpo.com/results_AmGuidelines/2014-excluded-players.html

Still, there will be decision making on the spot and will always be those good players that did not make the list. There should not be amateur tournaments for large reigns, unless organized like APA and others. How about players passing by from the West and no one knows about, not fair, how about faking small tournaments to get to the big ones. Very bad idea, and worst part it was streamed, and pro action was not. True we do not know all sides of the story, but from what i can tell and see; some decisions were amateur.

I would be very upset if I drove all the way to play in a SINGLE ELIMINATION tournament only to be put out by a player that wasn't even supposed to be in the tourney.

Good grief. This sort of thing is pathetic on so many levels.

Then don't play in this tournament. Lol you could look at every bracket and know who is probobly gonna win

I looked at all the amateur brackets and didn't see chips name on there. I don't believe he played.

You have made goods points in a polite way. This is how problems get resolved. I wish the all of the pool world had this class. I hope you get to play in the future.

There are always going to be people that slip in -

Darren Appleton - Mick Hill - Karl Boyes and two other champions played in the BCAPL Master single and team events.

It makes you wonder if there could be a better way to determine who is in and who is out.

Not Allowed in:
Danny Mastermaker
Joey Dupois
Mike Delawder
Danny Normadine- (But played even though he was on the list)

Allowed In:
Alex Olinger
Chip Compton
Joey Grey
Danny Smith
Steve McChanich

He 100% played. Not sure what bracket. I watched it Live. He lost to a solid player.

I'll have to wait until I get on my computer to check later. If I find it I'll post the link. I still don't believe it, no offense.

How about this perspective, you played/supported many events and been at it for years and you finally make $550 and your now in the Middle like a Tweenager. No shot $$$ at the pro level, and NO Play at the level you've been at for Ever because of One weekend, hummmmmmmmmm. Typical. They should of let the Entire Field of Players VOTE on whether or not Allen H. miscued or not with that tack less Move.

I understand what you're saying. I know it's a tough call. I really don't have a problem with anybody that is not a clear cut professional player being given a chance to play in this event. I've looked at the list and I know there are some monster players in it. Having said that, I would be VERY frustrated to lose to someone that was on the DO NOT PLAY list.

Hopefully, that's just an anomaly and it sounds like something the SBE crew will try to make right.

Look on the bright side. You can now officially claim you are a professional pool player, certified by none other than Allen Hopkins. Make up business cards, charge big money for lessons, etc.

Life gives you lemons, make lemonade.

Here's another idea.

Since this is a single elimination tourney -- take all the guys that you determine are too good for this field but not really pro players and put them all in their own bracket. Make it through that and you meet up with the other players on the final board.

Or something like that.

I know I wouldn't like that if I was one of those players but maybe something like that could be worked out for these tweeners.

sucks to have been Tyler Thornton and have to beat Chip Compton in the fourth round $ match in an "amateur" event. A close second in suckage would have been having to beat Groce in the fourth round "get into the dough" match ;)

Uwate....Tyler had ball in hand hill hill 3rd set with 6 balls to go..He had a good chance but fell short this year....
