Svb Is Out At Wpc :(

It sure is a bummer for all of us Shane fans.

However, he had a GREAT tournament, climbed the charts, and in this soft break mechanic format, I think he did about as well as any other champion out there.

He's still young and full of ambition, and I can't wait to see the Shane Van Boening of 2008! Watch out, world, the South Dakota Kid is currently a champion in the making, and best of all, he's American-bred, comes from good stock.

Believe me, I don't think any of us have heard the last of the Shane Van Boening era. In fact, it's just beginning. :)

Agreed, JAM. SVB, is a class young man and I wish him all the best.

Weep not for Shane. He's now one of the world's most elite, but this field must be the greatest ever assembled in nine ball, and many who qualify as great champions have already been eliminated. Whoever wins this one will have proven a lot to me.

Shane will be back in the winner's circle soon enough. American hopes are now down to Corey Deuel, who played well in the US Open, so let's hope he puts something together.

It's just Foldes getting revenge for that IPT tour card qualifier nearly two years ago. The last match was those two guys - Foldes was up 8-4 on a race to 9, and either broke dry or missed a shot - and SVB ran out and then broke-and-ran four in a row to win 9-8.

Shane had a bad day. He said he played horribly. It happens to everyone. Nobody is perfect. However, this may have come at a perfect time in his career. Shane is a serious and unflappable young man. My guess is that he'll mull over his performance, pick out the weakness, and come out of it stronger for it.

Being thrust into the intense limelight at a young age has ruined many players. I don't believe this will happen to Shane. He's going to be smarter and tougher.

I would like to have seen him take it all but at the same time, we all need something to strive for. Shane seems like he has his head on straight but I think there is always a danger when it all comes to easy.

Michael Jordan didn't make the basketball team his 8th grade year. Phil Mickelson didn't make the cut in his first pro golf tournament. This may be the loss he needed to become the best ever (not saying Mickelson was, but will not tolerate arguments that Jordan was not the best ever).

Granpa is proud

I'm oh so proud of Shanes preformances ,particularly for the past
several months, both on and away from the table. with the all the press
and comentary about his infected toe ,some might have used as an
excuse for there preformance. As he stated ,I'ts not bothering me" and
he stated that in his loss to Foldes was the result of a bad preformance.
No excuses.
My daughters ,Gari Jo and Timi, and I got quite a chuckle out of
Shanes interview on AZB-TV prior to his match with Foldes. We thought
he was going to fall asleep during the interview.I sure hope I can save
a copy of it.
Overall, its been a great learning experience for Shane and knowing
him ,as I do ,will make him a more solid competitor. Oh yes , this is just
an "all aboard " for a trip on a long journey with more titles to win.

PS : By the way,Shane ,keep practising, but for Gods sake, don't forget
to get your sleep.

I'm excited to see how many whoopings he puts on people who think he's done! I'm very excited about his future. I bet every pro would want his future.
This experience at the WPC will make him more complete, and that means more dangerous.

Have any other players won both the US open and WPC in the same year?
Justin Nuder

Steve Mizerak won both in 1978, Earl Strickland won both in 1984 and
Nick Varner won both in 1989

The modern era WPC is far more difficult to win than it was back then. To me, Mika Immonen's 2001 WPC title and 2nd place at the 2001 US Open is easily as impressive as either of these accomplishments.

Agreed. To win a world championship nowadays really is a WORLD championship. There are now so many great cueists in so many countries that were not previously represented on the world stage.

That being said, I still have great respect for the earlier / previous winners, as they too accomplished something very special.

I'm not a fan of Immonen, however, I concur that his was a remarkable accomplishment in pooldom.
