SVB is the best player on earth

Yes, his 2012 win was far more impressive, but this year, in 9/10 ball, Shane faced a field in which all the big guns showed up just twice, once at the WPC World 9-ball and again at the US Open 10-ball event. He failed to post a Top 10 in either event.

Half of the game's most elite weren't there at the US Open. You can call that a few missing names, but it means that this field was disappointingly weak, and yes, it means something.
Yeah but..... He beat Lee Van this year and I beleive Lee Van is the best player on earth.

Pretty sure Shane has traveled several times and beaten some of the best players on earth in their own backyard for some big money. He's lost there too but won much more.

Not many people can say that. Maybe Jay can chime in more about his results in PI.

lmao, one of the single dumbest statements ever. Thank you

Go ask Darren and Mika if they would like to play Shane for some more cash like they did the last time that Shane destroyed them.

This is way I didn't want to run off at the mouth and try to explain the details. My original post is observations, not a question. Karl

I way I look at is like this

1. Is there anyone in the world Shane is an underdog against?
2. How many of the people he is 50/50 against are bigger favorites against the rest of the competition?

He might be the best in the whole Universe.

Unlikely.. I am guessing some other species has played with their genetics to perfect hand/eye (tentacle/eyepod?) coordination. This will mean they would basically perfect the game of pool within minutes of playing it the first time.

Shane's definitely the best with our faulty genetic makeup, though... :-)

I think there was a player in the Intergalactic Spheroid League that could give Shane a run for his money. From the planet Icawlboolshittia, in the outer reaches of the Nutthuggsteria galaxy.

All Japan Championship 2013

Does anyone know if Shane is participating in the All Japan Championship this weekend? All the big guns are there including Reyes, Pagulayan, Orcollo, Biado, Corteza, Immonen, Hohmann, Ko-Pin, Bustamante, Wan Can, and Morris. I believe I read a post on Rodney Morris' facebook page saying he thinks he's the only American there, not sure how true that is.

He did. Two out of three races to 25.

Only person to ever win over Shane in a race to 100 is Alex in 2008.

Shane won the rematch. So maybe a rubber match at some point is in order.

Alex would need to learn how to break a lot better. He outshot SVB pretty badly in that match IMO but his break was terrible and let Shane back to the table too often and Shane ended up putting huge packages on Alex at the end of both day 1 and day 2 to pull out the end of the night lead.

Shane is the best 10-ball breaker on the planet and that is a gigantic part of the game and it wins him most of his long sessions due to the offence it provides. I would say that at least 10 people in the world shoot better then SVB "after" the break, and Alex is certainly one of those players.

Look what happened in SVB vs Orcullo in their 8-ball match on TAR, Orcullo never missed a ball and never played a single safety and SVB wins the match despite having missed a few shot himself. The break WAS the decider in that match and that is clear. It outweighed the better shooting by Orcullo.

If you are going to say SVB is the best "player" in the world then you are saying he does more then simply "break better" then everyone, you are saying he "plays" better and that implies shots beyond the break. I simply do not see SVB shooting better then the elite players after the break.

im an SVB fan. he's not the best in the world, but i think that he has the POTENTIAL, no doubt. for me, he's just not there yet. this is why i am really disappointed that he did not participate in the All-Japan Open. the best Filipino, Japanese, Chinese and Taipei players are all there, as well as those young talents from all over Asia. the current WPC champ is there as well as all quarterfinalists. Shane is a master of 10-ball, and this is his chance to prove that he could be on the top. someone said that he is currently preparing for the Mosconi Cup, that's why he was not able to play in All-Japan.

Who do YOU think is the best?

Have to respect that decision. Unfortunate timing for sure.

i understand. of course no one can dictate what he should prioritize. he's one of the best in the world, and for someone to represent his country should be an honor.
