SVB is the best player on earth

If Shane isn't the best player in the world than who is?

After the recent US Open, it's either Hohmann or Corteza. Depends on how many points both of them earn. This is based on the current (but not yet updated) WPA ranking.

actually it was already updated...

They have thorsten still in the lead... but the WPA rankings are a joke...

Thorsten got 1170 points for wining the WC 9b... Shane got 413 for winning the us open...

There's no way you can tell me that the WC was worth 3x the points and was 3x more difficult to win as the open.

It's just not the case.

I dont know how they compute it, but I'm sure there's a system to how points are awarded after a major tournament. This is why i also sent an email after Shane's current victory to the people at WPA to ask about the technicalities of their point system and how it's "distributed". If I get answers, I'd be happy to post it here, maybe create a thread about it. ;)

If I vote for SVB when do I get my prize? Oh wait, I don't - there are no prizes. It's all irrelevant. He's the best fine. He's not the best. Fine. Carry on with life.

-td. (And Keith is the best anyway)

Statistically Speaking

We've built up quite a bit of statistics enjoying this man's game. Just thought I'd add this to the conversation - statistically speaking, his game is pretty insane.

Shane is not the best because he hasn't proved he is the best,
Until he does what Darren and Mika did respectively and dominate the game for the year ot two they did winning everything home soil and abroad then he can be in the discussion, until then he is a fantastci player trying to be the best.

Yep, its a one on one tournament. It also includes the Mosconi cup exhibition match ;)

And how many times has Shane been featured on TAR?

Also, would it be fair to say that the Chinese, Taiwanese & Filipinos have a lesser chance of increasing their winnings on the "list" that you posted, since they do not participate in the Mosconi cup?

4 events in 2013 for a Total of $13,000

Which still puts him in 1st place in money won this year if you subtract TAR earnings.

I would love to have a Mosconi cup with more than American vs the world

Edit: The Mosconi cup hasn't been played in 2013 yet

Not a knock on Thorsten, but I wouldn't put him in my top 10 players. But I also don't put a whole lot into 14.1.

Here is the only list that matters.

Wow....those earnings are a joke. From the number 6 player down the list, I made more money working at General Motors than they have....and I didn't have to pay entry fees, lodging, and travel cost to do so. Plus....I got to shoot pool at night for.....get this.......here it comes.......FUN!!!

Maniac (wouldn't have traded his way for any pro pool players ways)

lmao, one of the single dumbest statements ever. Thank you

Go ask Darren and Mika if they would like to play Shane for some more cash like they did the last time that Shane destroyed them.

There doesn't have to be a conclusive "best player". There are a few guys in the conversation that could duke it out on any given day depending on the format and type of game. Shane is definitely one of those guys- perhaps the other guys in the discussion would be Orcollo, Corteza, Biado, Alex P, Hohman (if 14.1 is included), Archer (he played Shane very tough in TAR), Bustamante (same comment as Archer), Earl when his head is on straight (somewhat rare I know), and Morris when he really has it dialed in.

Orcollo, Bustamante, and Archer probably have the greatest capability of bothering Shane- especially in relatively "short" races to 25-30. Alex P probably would be the biggest rival in terms of all around performance.

No one is the "best" because how they are now will not how they'll be tomorrow.

One things for certain in this world....it's ALWAYS changing and so are all the people.

Shane is as good as they get, but so is Alex on a given day, and Johnny on a given day, and Earl on a given day, and Efren on a given day, and Bustemanted on a given day...etc. etc. etc.

No one is the "best" because how they are now will not reflect exactly how they'll be tomorrow. And such is life ........ it is the teacher ;)

Don't agree with this. Having a year of complete domination against the world is not a requirement for being the best, although it's nice to have such a year on one's resume.

Shane is a superstar because he plays well year after year. He is one of few that has demonstrated sustained excellence of this magnitude.
