Svb wtf hof

Im not going to say exactly what I was going to say, cause I know how "some" people here get.

But it still seems to amaze me the titles and prestige that people are still trying to bestow on shane. the guy is good no doubt about it but lets face it he still has a very long way to go, not just to be called "best in the world" but "best ever". Does no one remember a guy called Efren Reyes? Shane is yet to catch Earl, and Earl carries Efren's case.

Although Shane is a likely candidate to win more tournament maybe even get his 4th USO title everyone seems to be forgetting the key thing that has been mentioned A LOT lately, and that is that the rest of the world is growing just as fast as Shane is, So his World Title chances are no more better no and forget about his chances of holding "titles"

When some of you guys speak you speak as though Darren, Neils, Mika and the rests of the european players are just going to up and pickup league or something. Efren is the greatest to wield a cue and has the Global track record to back it up. But I know what it is, it's hype, no discredit to Shane but many of you love to jump on what's hot, and with shane being american he's you Lancelot. You did it with Darren, Mika and the host of Asian players when you got introduced to their game and potential.

Shane is an excellent player and has great work ethics, he works hard at being the absolute best and currently holds the title of being "One" of the most feared, but by no means is he worlds best of best ever, Earl, Archer and Efren could probably argue to that.
If Efren was soooo great how come he played in 27 US Opens and only won one? I'm not trying to bash Efren here but give Shane his due credit...

It's much harder now than 5-10 years ago to win a true WORLD title that the Chinese, Asians, top players from all over Europe, and Dennis O and countrymen. Johnnyt

PS: When was the last time an American won a world tournament out of the U.S.?

I see that as a good thing. It's a WORLD title, it should be difficult.

Earl Strickland was the last American to win a WPA World 9-ball Championship, in 2002.

Edit -

The world of "Artistic Pool" has been dominated by the USA in the past years :rotflmao1:

That's what I thought, Bob -- that there was no age minimum for many years and that they then adopted an age 40 minimum (I forget when). But here's what the BCA website says now: "The Greatest Player category shall be reserved for outstanding players who have been active in national or international competition for at least 20 years and have won at least one national or international championship."

Do you know whether they have changed again, or does an age 40 minimum still apply in addition to the "at least 20 years" requirement?
I recall recent stories about the HOF selections saying something like, "having just turned 40, this is his first year of eligibility..." or some such. Mike Panozzo would know.

Ammmm yeah, no one is not given Shane his '"due credit" and if you going to quote me then quote my concern, don't give him credit that he has not yet earned just because you or whoever like him. Earl has World titles, Archer local, but Efren with his 1 USO remains the undisputed by my count.

I think so many people have such strong negative feelings towards Earl that they forget how good he was in his prime. He is definitely in the conversation for one of the best ever. I would have loved to see what Earl could have done with his emotions always in check because even with his blow ups the guy is crazy great and you can't deny his passion for the game. There is never going to be a best that ever played the game. I love watching Shane play. He lives and has spent a great deal of his life in the same city I've lived in most of my life so he is kind of like a "Hometown Hero" to a lot of the players here, that being said I don't know how he would stack up now playing Efren in his prime. I think it would defiantly be a match everyone in the pool world would love to see. Don't get me wrong Efren still has a hell of a lot of game in him and the shots he comes up with can be explained no other way then magic but in his prime he was something else. I honestly think if Efren had Shane's break he would probably be the majority vote for best ever.

There is never going to be an end point to the discussion of best ever just like in every other sport. The competition is better now and who knows how the veterans would stack up against it, it's hard to pick the best of a decade let alone a best of all time.

Archer has won a World 9-ball Championship

being better than the all time greats like Efren, Sigel and Earl...

Belonging in the HOF and being better than the all time greats like Efren, Sigel and Earl are two completely different things.

Shane still has a bit of work to do to be considered better than the all time greats, but he should be in the HOF if he fails to even cash in another tournament just based on his current accomplishments. Shane hasn't even been on the scene for a decade. He first started showing up in 06-07 so we're looking at 7-8 years for what he has accomplished thus far, and he has another 10-15 years of top play left in him more than likely and more than that if Efren, Ernesto etc are any indication.

All time great, we can look at in another ten years, HOF, he's already earned that.

Won't disagree there. I hate "Age Requirements" for HOF entry and I don't think anyone can say he doesn't belong in there today. He routinely wins tournaments with the toughest fields there have ever been.

Requirements

I think To get all of AZ support SVB needs to achieve the following:

-wait until he's 40
-win every tournament both in he US AND overseas, even if this means simultaneous events involving international flights between matches.
-wake up one day and suddenly become Chinese

C'mon Shane, put the breakrak away and get to work!

You should've posted this in the funny pic gif thread...lol...

First 3 US Opens in a row (4 total in under a decade), now the Masters just weeks after that. WTF did they feed this kid?

I think Sigel is the youngest player elected so far in the hall of fame, IMHO Shane should be put in to beat that.

I think Jean Balukas was the youngest player inducted. She'd have been in her late 20's upon induction.

It is actually quite strange that active players are inducted. As long as they are 40, I guess it's OK.

By "support" do you mean "conform to the belief that SVB is the greatest player alive and that noone in the entire history of the game could ever beat him in a race to 100"?

Everyone admits SVB is a great player and one of the worlds best. But to some people saying that makes you a SVB hater...

That is where the stupidity in all these SVB threads comes from.

Not quite

No, I meant that the issue would deescalate to the point at which I could make a joke and just get a chuckle.

Whether or not SVB is the best of all time, I do find it interesting how many people react so strongly to that idea. People have said Efren was, or Mosconi was. A few just take exception to the idea that ANYONE can be accurately compared across decades, that's not the point. I just think its amazing how much more kickback SVB gets than when people mention Efren/Mosconi. More people seem offended by SVBs name than any other.

I don't get it. I'm not on his nuts. Just can't see why it's so bothersome that someone else might think he's the best. I don't get threatened if someone says Orcollo is the best.

And yes, it's fine to disagree. It's fine to elaborate on why you feel that way. You can even share what SVB would have to do for YOU to think he's the best. That doesn't mean that others can't have their own opinions.

As for me, I haven't been following pool much anymore. Shifting to poker. So I don't know if he's the best. I do know i've bet on him many, many times and the only money I've lost is because I was too chicken to bet more )

Seriously? Have you never been on an AZB Strickland thread? Sigel?

I don't see many people being offended by others thinking SVB is the best TBH. When someone mentions something like "well, KO is pretty good too, I think he might be better" we then get Corvette doing a hyper hissy fit going off saying how SVB will Horsef*&^ Ko and blah blah blah..., and as one could guess things go south from there.

And that is completely fine, and that is what most people do. You seem to be on here saying that somehow SVB is some hated player who people love to put down. I do not see that AT ALL. What I see on most threads is a very strong flashback from people who think SVB IS the best and a whole bunch of trash talking on how soandso should come over to America and play him for cash and so on and so forth.

On any SVB thread where people talk about whether he is the top player in the world or not AT LEAST as much disrespect is shot off at any other name even mentioned on the thread by people crazy enough to not think SVB is the greatest.

Lol

Hahaha you're absolutely right. People tweak on both sides of the debate. I hadn't really noticed but that line about Vette is hilarious.

Funny thing is I don't really care. The whole reason I took up pool in the first place is so I could root for myself instead of rootin for a ball team. I never got the whole 'fantasy' sports. I'd rather just play. Only reason I'm on this forum instead of grinding poker is because I'm at a work event and don't have my lap top.

Cheers!

lmao about corvette, I think he is svb's biggest nuthugger prob polishes his sack after every match its really quite sad he cant even acknowledge when someone says shane is awesome but not accomplished what others like efren sigel Strickland etc have so not fair to have him in the same category yet..

he then flips out and starts demanding a race to 1000, 10 ball rack your own no bathroom breaks, TAR studio line up all comers. cardigan kid on his sack right next to him
