Anyone venture to guess what this cue is worth today? Its been in my closet for over ten years and I only brought it out to take pictures of to send to someone in Japan who is interested in purchasing it.It is a Gus Szamboti made in his later years. It has a unique set of ivory inlayed deck of cards symbols on the bottom of butt.Weight 19-19.5oz.Shafts13mm.Has anyone seen another Szamboti like it? As far as I know its a one of a kind.Cue is straight and well balanced. Its a great hitting and playable stick too

I would contact Barry Szamboti, like you said the cue is pretty unique and many of design characteristics are not normal for Szamboti Cue. Without Barry's input it may be hard sell.

Beautiful Cue by the way, and good luck with your sale.

PM sent.

Thanks

Kevin

It can't be.

Can it?

No way.

Way ?

Its either worth a couple hundred or 10s of thousands. What stands in between those 2 numbers is Barry Szamboti and Gus's order book.

To answer your question, I have never seen a Gus like that, but there are plenty of Gus cues I haven't seen.

I really really hope this is a Gus.

i think in this market it should pull just under 15,000 retail. it looks great , the things that change price is shaft condition ,13mm? and is one shaft shorter than the other? and the pilots look very deep? could be the pictures and is the butt ivory? or delrin? and how straight it rolls call me 734-693-3177

I hope you are able to contact Barry and find out his opinion of this cue. A few details of this cue suggest to me it might not be a Gus. First, the silver rings in the joint collars are thinner than Gus usually used. Second, the pilots on the shafts are a little more squared off then I am used to seeing on Gus' cues. Also, the butt cap is a little more rounded off on the bottom, but that could be wear. The gambler inlays are different than he usually did too.

However, the age of the cue based on its patina is the right age. The smooth leather wrap looks right, the points look right, the stitch ringwork looks about right.

I do hope this cue is the real deal, good luck!

i saw a cue like this at a reno show some 20 years ago, made from szamboti blank
first card type cue i had seen

i suggest you send this cue to barry to stop the guessing once and for all

i am not sure its the one i saw,but close

Hay Mr Dean

I too like the case. If it were a gambler it would have probably been made for Dean!

it appears to be more like a early jensen, but if it is a gus it is rare!!can you send better picks of the points and the insert on the joint.back in about 02 there was a cue similar at the derby city classic and i could be wrong about the year.

Did Gus ever spray over a full length delrin butt cap ??

thats the problem here, I aint ever seen a Gus butt cap look anything like that, rounded edges and sprayed over and a rounded bumper that fat? Thats not correct, perhaps it was replaced by someone else, the rest of the cue looks rite from the pics but i'm 100%. more than likely its part Gus part something else, it still will be a expensive cue, but not a $25,000 cue.

I can say this.

Mike Johnson's cues aint no 25K. And any mut built with blanks isn't either. Unless Barry built it 25K is a pipe dream. Unlikely Barry.
