TAR Podcast #17 Tonight at 9 Eastern. Topic Suggestions?

Here's a concept:

Give 4 guys $250 each. Whoever wins all the cash gets a $2k prize. Let them play whatever they want game-wise and spot whatever they wanna spot. Half the entertainment would be the game-making. I wouldn't care if they pitched quarters to the spot. Would def be fun to watch.

With the new format, I vote for an Old School vs New School match. Kieth vs Shuff or something along those lines.

Would love to at least hear the idea kicked around. Maybe even offer a better split to the loser to make it more appealing like $2,500/2,500 and the winner gets another match as long as PPV sales were high enough. Just trying to showcase a way to eliminate the $1,000 is not enough argument but still giving reason to win.

The above suggestion is somewhat like other one on one sports and gives a reason for players to play hard and no possible "chop".

Would never work. Too easy for two players to collude and take off the other two.

Good idea--- king of the hill and eliminates the chop. Sigel/Schidt is a great old school / new school match-up and Sigel won their last 14.1 match-up. Would LOVE to see a rematch there.

Talk about Pool 300 and the CSI role in it. I think a TAR Pool 300 Match up would be a good draw if you can get the word out and get more players to try it. It's not an easy game like a lot of people that haven't tried it think. If you watch the top pros play it on the Pool 300 website you'll see they don't run strings of strikes.

I still say that the game of 15 ball rotation race to 500 or more will show the best player. Maybe put Shane in against Busty or some other top PI player. Shane will have to out run the nuts aganst these guys in this game. For that game you need pinpoint posistion, combo and carom skills, and plenty of imagination. Math skills elp also:p. To me it's close to an all around player just one type of game. Johnnyt

What type of chop is ethical in pool? Poker tournaments chop all the time. Golf - Tennis, there is no chop. Or if there is, it is not made public.

In a small time banger tournament there is nothing wrong with 1st and 2nd place chopping up the prize fund. Nobody is there to watch them play and nobody is betting on them. They split the money and flip a coin for who gets the trophy.

With professionals or you've got an audience... its not ethical.

Tell that to the guy spending 500-1500 on a player in the calcutta

What would be the appetite for instructional TAR events?

Banking/bank pool with John Brumback
One Pocket Moves and Strategies - Freezer
Breaking and Rack strategies/run outs - SVB

etc

Any thoughts with non-traditional TAR sessions?

Maybe a talk show with legend gamblers/road players discussing stories or even old match-ups among each other. "The Rack" thread here on azb has some really amazing stories--- would be great to get guys like Keither, Billy, Hopkins discuss huge match-ups and take-offs. Just an open forum with greats talking stories and pool in general. Something like "The View" but with hardened legend gamblers talking anything pool.

Maybe instructional sessions?

TAR = The Action Report.... does it have to be pool action? Since you're in Vegas, you have a lot of great legend "gamblers" that may not be pool players (WPT, otherwise). I know Archie rolls into Pool Sharks sometimes-- would love to hear what he has to say in general.

Dave

edit:

my dream tar matchup is either:

strickland/sigel
keith mccready/strickland
hopkins/sigel

Maybe have instructors on before the match starts to do an hour of instructional for the viewers, maybe that way you can get more viewers to pay for the show as they get an hours lesson free also as part of the package.

ring game

its hard in the yard if guys travel to vegas to chop 2 guys up for $1250 a pop haha

and i could be the fish for $250 im never scared

$250 entry
$200 flight
$150 2 day room
Chopping dude up for $600-$800 profit

JCIN breaking your neck after he finds out priceless!!

Some great topics here. Thanks to everyone who has posted I'll have this thread up during the podcast and we will go over what has been posted.

Still time if anyone has anything else. It's a lot easier to get the topics beforehand like this than watching the chat. I appreciate the help.

I would like to have discussed why it seems so hard to get players to come and play when they are getting a free trip and a shot at some nice cash. You hear everyone talk about there being no money in the game then when they get offered a free shot its not enough for some of them.

I posted a thread in the New Vegas Pool Forum about being able to watch high level pool live and close at the studio and just wanted to make sure that your going to have a few seats available to those who want to come and sweat these matches live.

Thanks

Jason

We will have limited seating for both matches. The seats for both matches will be up for sale on Monday on our home page.

dude, I have a similar question or observation..We have a local pool hall here in Las Vegas , Best Billiards on Flamingo that the owner has been adding $200 to 4 tournaments a week. Wed 8ball, Thur 9ball, Fri 10ball, and Sunday 1pocket. The entry fees are $15 and he can't get enough players to even have a tournament on some days. Last night didn't have enough players, Sunday didn't have enough players. It's just stupid, i swear i think you could hold a tournament and advertise that if you show and pay your entry, play the tournament that your guaranteed to get your money back you still wouldn't get players to show up. They would come up with some reason or another, like they don't like their handicap, or they don't wont to show their speed, to far drive, get's over to late...you name it...we have all heard it.

I would like to hear you discuss players who have let you down, either by agreeing to play and then backing out or like stringing you along.
