TAR Shane Van Boening Instructional Series Coming 4/4/13

We filmed these the week before TAR 31 and they have been in post since. Cleary is putting in a lot of work on these. We used five cameras along with a small POV camera to capture some slow motion video. That is a whole lot of video to sync and edit plus all of the 3D graphics work that is going into them.

The first one (Aiming) will be for sale April 4th the others will come out as they are completed. The goal is to get them out as soon as possible.

OK, great. I wasn't sure if the others had been filmed yet.

I will have to harass Cleary to get them done.

Another random question: have you considered offering downloadable copies in addition to DVDs?

I downloaded the ZeroX kicking system video recently, imported it to my iPhone, and now I have it with me at the pool hall. It would be nice to be able to watch the Shane videos the same way without lugging a laptop and DVD.

You can always rip a dvd into the proper format, there are plenty of online instructions. I have done this with Jimmy Reid's dvds, and its great!

What is a subtitle file and how do the words sync with the video?

Cleary is doing the post so if he decides its doable in the time frame then we will. If not then we won't.

<-----knows if it is subtitled someone will complain its not subtitled in Russian

The file would be on the disc so when you hit on your remote for subtitles on or off you have that option or make it an option on the DVD itself. Usually most disc have English, Spanish and French on them but with the subtitles it might open up the market a little bit more but not sure how much.

I'll probably hold off until the entire set is ready. Be sure to let us know then...

I can't wait for these to come out. I love the video of Shane on Vimeo discussing his aiming technique. I hope it's more of the same with a little better focus and explanation. Aiming at base of the object ball...side of the cue on most shots. I think that it's still HAMB is the key with a consistent focus...whatever that system may be.

And he can really give all of his secrets away...breaking included. Because if someone isn't willing to go break a rack of balls over and over and over for hours and hours and hours, it doesn't matter what he tells you. Consistent application comes from consistent process and accuracy and technique. This is not magic. Well, maybe what efren does is magic.

Just my one cents.

Will the series be available to streaming? Either way I'm down....sounds good.

We are trying to find a good way to distribute online. I expect it will be an option.

$25 per disc. First disc to be released is Aiming. It will be followed by Breaking and then the Run Out disc covering postion play in 8 ball, and 10 Ball.

These are not traditional instructional dvd's. These are meant as a look into how Shane plays the game. Jennifer does a great job getting him to go into detail on certain aspects of the game. They are not "system" dvd's they are basically Shane explaining to Jennifer how and why he does certain things. It will include 3D graphics to explain the finer points of different techniques.

Justin, just curious, does he explain as he's playing, or does he shoot off a rack, and then there's a voice over where he explains what he did and why? I guess the only difference would be in that if it's a voice over, his actual play would be more natural.

I wish that I could buy an advance copy at the Rio in Vegas at the end of March.

Cleary should be able to do it with no trouble at all.

Somebody (IOW, a human) still has to transcribe the words spoken. I'm not sure, but I don't think they have come out with voice recognition systems for this kind of deal quite yet.

This is what stenomask and stenograph court reporters do for closed-captioning, but it is usually in a real-time manner, meaning they are doing it as the words are spoken simultaneously.

With a DVD, you have all the time in the world to transcribe the words spoken and then insert them in the footer of the each frame.

Going transcription rates, $2 to $5 per audio minute, depending on the delivery or turnaround time. ;)

If proper spelling and punctuation is not a necessity and cost is a concern, the audio can be sent overseas to India or Philippines and get transcribed for 75 cents to $1 per minute. For example, if you have a 60-minute DVD, the cost would be $60 for the transcribed words in MS-Word format.
