Teacherman

pssst DM, I'm working on my reputation points here! I'm currently at 20 but I still haven't found out if that's good or bad. I figure if it's bad, then maybe I can make it good... :D

Well, you better not get caught hanging out with me then. Now, get back over onto the other side of the tracks before you get into trouble. ;)

Personally I hate to see him get banned. I didnt agree with the way he said alot of things, but I agreed with the biggest part of what he was saying. But I say this knowing I never even opened the current threads that were running because I knew there was a bunch of trash talking going on that I didnt want to read (which is an option everyone had).

I will say that if some of the things a friend told me were true I can understand Teachermans frustrations.

Mike has a tough job to do on this site, and he does a great job and runs one of the best sites on the net. Its not his fault TM pushed far enough to get banned, but all the same we lost a poster that had much to contribute.

TM reminded me of the guy that was great untill he got behind the wheel of his car and now thinks he can cut people off and do what ever he wants and be inconspicuous. He was the 1st person I ever put on my ignore list.
Yes he had valid points but he just could not let it rest when Mike Janis asked him to at least 4 xs.
Thanks for banning people like that.
There are plenty of good people out there that share info that dont bitch and moan about everyone and everything.Personally I think the man has some deep seeded emotional problems.Good riddiance hes gone.

For future reference, how do you put someone on your ignore list?

Go to that particular persons screen name on the members list and there's a question that asks if you want to place them on the "ignore" list. Click it.

The Teach bannished????? Suprising?...not really...The Teach knew what he was doing. He was spending too much time on line, wasting time that could have been devoted to his business and its success. He booted himself...I think what got him semi-addicted in the first place were posters who with 'no' business sense offered suggestions on 'how to improve blah..........; if you have been grinding it out in the food & beverage (that's what ph's are) business for years it is funny, frustating, and irresisable not to tell it like it is to these IDIOTS. The reason this type of business has the high failure rate is the endless supply of green naive people willing to buy into the trap...Teach is stuck in the business. He is making money but it is a trap, like quicksand....he is burned out and lashing out with the facts he knows so well.
What are the facts? If you have a poolhall you don't make your nut on poolplayers, if fact, it is just the opposite. The better they play the less money they have to spend....ironic isn't it?
I'm sorry to see he made the leap to bannishment because I thought he was interesting, knowledgeable, and funny. Of course, it seems these traits maybe just targets on your back i.e FL, Gremlin, and now Teach...hmmmm

Hey MIKE...I never thought about this...but how many brownie points will a thread like this get you that can be stockpiled and used against future indiscretions? I need to do SOMETHING to offset my demerits...btw, how many do I have now? ;) :p :D

DM,
I believe that from Mike's silence on this issue we can safely assume that you are on "double secret probation." In which case, there is only one solution - TOGA PARTY!!!

In all seriousness however, I think the ban is a good thing. If Mike is attempting to offer a site for civil discourse (or semi-civil in the case of D'maker and myself), then the ban is a step in the right direction. If we want access to the thoughts of the players, cuemakers, tournament promoters, and general movers and shakers; then an active site with some semblance of civility is essential. There are plenty of other sites for people who like to rant and flame.

I completely agree. He had some very valid arguments. He just couldn't help but run everyone the wrong way in order to try to make a point.

Hmm, kind of reminds of a certain fast one we had around here.

Mike

I totally agree with you, and I respect you for making these decisions.

These are public forums and you are partially responsible for its content. While you don't want to supress an individual's right to post an opinion, it is up to them to do so in a format that's generally acceptable to the site.

You certainly don't want to allow people an uncensored pulpit to slander others. When behavior borders on reckless fanaticism, it's time to pull the plug.

My suggestion would be to issue a warning. Put a poster on probation for a month and have it show on their screen title: "Probation". If they cannot clean up their act during this probationary time, boot 'em.

Hey Mike...can I at least borrow some of Tates and Timberlys brownie points to apply to my demerits. How about if I purchase them with vdollars?

I am an admin on another board. Over the years I've run several others.

Looking at it from that perspective, I've banned lots and lots of people for various reasons.

One of the minor details that seems to get overlooked in this, is that message boards are not a democracy.
Mike owns and opperates this board and manages the content and personalities contained within. What he says is the law. This board is private property and we are all guests here.

Despite what others are feeling, what TM did was nothing short of harrassment. Any and every board or establishment is going to do everything they can to "protect" their members from this sort of behavior.

Once he hit some sort of predatory, almost stalking mode, he made the decision for Mike.

For the people who are defending TM, where should the line have been drawn?
I guess if its OK for him to act this way with MJ, maybe gremlin and his incarnations were OK harrassing the ladies?
What's next?

I don't think this is a COPA site, so should parents need to worry what a child might read here?

IMO, there shouldn't be any leniency for abusive treatment to any member.

How many chances to chill was TM given?

I worked hard for them there brownie points!!! However, if you're talking vdollars, I'm willing to listen..... ;)

I must have missed his bad posts - I sure didn't see anything worthy of getting booted.

Seems to me he was being hustled by Mike Janis to turn over is pool room for the Viking tour and it was his opinion that the tour is one big hustle by the operator.

But then, life is one big hustle.

If you can get a bunch of slugs to play even against pros and they pay you for the honor then you go to the top of the PT Barnum class.

Drivermaker,

I can tell you that while you were on vacation, this place was downright boring. It was a real yawner. People talking about exciting stuff like the merits of lePro versus Triangle, Lucasi versus Player - ohhhhhhh man (yawn).

I may not always agree with you, but I do always like you. There's no way you will get tossed off. I do, however, have to fight off my urge to get on the table with you and show you what a Predator can do in the right hands....

I have no idea why you would want to walk around being wrong. :p :D

As far as the Predator goes, we'll have to pass on that and go to a bar or something. Just being around a Predator gives me the hives.

If you want a complete description of someone like TM or FL someone posted this website
http://members.aol.com/intwg/trolls.htm
a few points mentioned about these type of posters:
"craves attention" "delights in sowing discord" "tries to start arguments and upset people" "impervious to criticism" "not bound by rules of courtesy" "cannot be changed by mere words" "deperately seeking attention"
etc.etc.
Maybe, so the owner of the website won't have to take criticism for giving anti-social people the boot, it could be turned into one of those game show formats where we get to boot them off the island or give them the GONG I think they would be gotten rid of a little quicker. LOL

Mike has set standards for what is and what is not acceptable conduct on the forum.

Teacherman was obviously extremely knowledgeable and we learned something from him, but if Mike has determined that his means of communicating on the forum is unacceptable, then by banning him, he has acted in what he perceives to be the interest of other posters on our forum.

Mike has made an objective judgment, and it is understandable that some disagree, but Mike runs the best pool forum on the planet, so I'm prepared to accept his judgment.

Teacherman is not Fast Larry. If you think so, you should do a better job with your research.
