Final 32 teams...

The two teams (of course) were present...

Friends and family of the opponents and the full contingent of the team waiting on deck, plus a smattering of other people watching.

Sorry Zach, but you got this one wrong.

If this EVER happens again, you need to tell your opponent to wait for referee. The referee can poll the gallery and make a decision.

This just confirmed by a National BCA Referee.

Ray

The ref said that no ref, call goes too shooter. Bull (TD) seen the hit while standing on top the stage and said it was bad as did all the people standing around watching the hill/hill match. His team mate Paul of (Fast Eddie's Tour) even said it was bad.

Now come on!!! LOL!

So say I was playing you and I made a bad hit...and say the stands are full of no one but my family and friends...Say you don't have any that day..If I call a ref over and ask him about it he can poll my family and friends? Thats retarded..

Zach, I would hope that your family and friends would have the good sense to tell the truth! I mean, wouldn't they want to sleep at night?!?!?! LOL! I am just giving you a hard time, don't get your diddy's in a wod! :):grin-square::wink:

Peace,
Amanda

Yeah, the Ref dropped the ball on this one!

Hopefully he is more aware of the procedure in the future.

As I told Ray on the phone, here it is in black and white. Even further is the section on the final authority. Jeff had 2 courses of action, first with the Ref and second with the TD.

9.4 Protests, Rules Interpretations, and Final Authority
REFEREES
1. You may protest if you feel a referee has incorrectly applied the rules or made an incorrect rules interpretation. You must make your protest both immediately and prior to the next shot being taken, or it will not be considered. Referees must honor your request, suspend play, and take the protest to either their supervisor or the appropriate event official.

2. Matters involving a referee’s judgment may not be protested.

3. The Tournament Director or other designated event official is the final authority on all protests. They may, and should, consult with the senior referee present and other referees as necessary to gather information relative to the protest and for technical assistance if desired. However, no final decision on any protest may be made by any BCAPL referee while acting in the capacity of a referee.

4. The tournament director or other designated event official with final protest authority is responsible for making further rules interpretations or applied rulings required due to unusual circumstances.

5. If you have a specific issue concerning a referee’s conduct that is not related to a judgment call or rules issue, you should contact the Administrative Authority or Head Referee of the event, or the National Office of the BCAPL.

9.5 Soliciting Information
1. Referees may solicit information from any source to aid them in making their decision.
2. If ruling on a situation or issue which occurred while a referee was not present, the referee will make their best effort to gather the appropriate information required to render a decision, and will make the decision based on that information. However, a referee is not responsible for information that was not offered or obtained in making that decision. As in all other cases, after another shot has been taken no previous ruling may be changed or protested, even if it is later discovered that the referee had incomplete or incorrect information at the time of the ruling.

Steve...

Just a general clarification... I was not involved in this game... My final game had ended previously on another table...

Our player was Robbie Smith, Charlie's son...

It doesn't change your explanation which was excellent, I just didn't want people misunderstanding my role in all of this...

I wish I had been on duty but I left early so I could come in and finish the following morning.

I do want to point out that the information I pasted in is from the same rulebook that the players are given. Sometimes it's good to know what responsiblitites the other parties in a tournament have as well.

Second hand I heard that the shooter in question remarked to a member of the incoming team something along the lines of "Well, I still made a tough out"

Perhaps, but would you have been so smug with your teammates shaking their heads and you screwing in your joint protectors while your opponents headed to their next match??

Yes, as if to imply that just because he made a "tough out", the foul shouldn't count!?!?!?!??!?! I mean, REALLY??!?!?!? Such doo doo!!!! And you know what, now that I think about it, it doesn't even matter if his teammates apologized because they STILL took the win AND continued on in the tournament. I mean, how bad did they really feel?? Obviously not THAT bad!

Peace,
Amanda

I understand that the players have some accountability in relation to knowing the rules and learning the rules book they are given...

However, this is a pretty unconventional situation where because of the score, etc. emotions are running high...

It seems a little unrealistic to expect players to know / remember an obscure ruling that covers this contingency...

Maybe the referee should have pointed the options out or maybe, just maybe, the soul devoid humanoid that perpetrated the foul should have done the right thing and admitted it...

Time for more blood pressure medicine...!!

Jeff, sorry to hear what's happened to your team. That's just messed up. Some people just want to win at all costs.

My team was not too happy about our loss neither. The other team didn't cheat us, but they started sharking us from the beginning to the end of our match. They did things such as "that's my chalk." even though it was not, "is that a good shot?" when it was obvious that it was. When the score was 11-12 us & the tension was really high between the two teams, I called the ref, Bob, over to watch the match, they made fun of him. I asked Bob to stay to watch the match, but he said he had to go back to his station. I still don't understand what that meant. I knew there were only three refs for the entire event, but I felt he should have stayed. We lost 13-12.

Congrats to Juan!!! I heard you make only one mistake in the whole match again Jason Bacon. That's awesome. Now you're the MASTER. OK now I should call you Master Juan. LOL!
