I knew this was here ....
I just walked in the door not 20 min's ago and had to get on here because I new this would be on here. Or somthing eles bashng the apa....
I dont mind the Valleys but that cloth is crap crap crap.... It isnt 1920 we arnt playing on shag carpet any more, the game has came along way, are you going to find differnt playing equipment, well of course, even 860 plays differant in changing conditions but that is no excuse for that crapy ass felt. And its more than just that, they have been using thoughs tables for years now and I'd love to see the maintenance records. you always got to like it when you here that thud sound when the ball hits a rail that is lose.

we played.We met some wonderful people and all exibited great sportsmanship.We look forward to going back next year.Instead of whining
on here,don't you think it would be better to express your true feelings to the apa home office or even the local league operator.Just my 2 cents worth.

9 out of 10 league operators dont give a fuc$!!! Wheres my money is there thought.............and only.

If that were true, the APA would die. Business doesn't succceed if the people running it don't care about their customers. 9 out of 10 LO's do care what the players think, for the exact reason you stated. Players are the source of their income. If an LO doesn't care about the players, they are going to lose business, and income.
Our LO has at least one flyer sent out every session, asking for player input on ideas to make the league better, everything from how to structure the play-offs to which of those little patches players want to be made available. Players votes on things like this are the deciding factor. And we have one of the largest and most successful leagues in the country.

I am not going to read this entire thread....simply because it is always the same thing over and over again.
1) The Valley pool table is not a crappy table. Looks like the felt covering job was though. Anyone that has to fold the felt at the corners of any rail cannot properly replace felt on the rails. Doesn't matter if it is the side pockets or end rails, you should never have to fold the edges.
2). In our area, we play local leagues. No traveling and the money is between $8000 to $10000 at the end of the session. (depends on time of year).
3) APA is formatted for lower level players. As long as there are lower level players....APA will survive.

I was there and I have to say that I played on several of the practice tables, a couple of the mini room tables and 3 of the tournament room tables. They all played better than the valley shit in the bars and moose lodges, vfw, or american leagon. The conditions were consistent across the tables I played on despite the sloppy felt job. The table in Alison Fisher's booth played better than the others I played on, with the same sloppy felt job.
That being said I felt I had an advantage because I own a 7' Diamond Pro/Am with tournament cut pockets. The actual playing surface (nose of the rail to nose of the rail) is 2" wider and 4" longer than the Valley. The generous pocket size meant I could make shots that wouldn't go at home. Since this was my first big event, that made me more comfortable on the table.
I do wish it was played on Diamonds. If I'd have walked into the room and it was all Pro/Am tables I'd have been in heaven.

Placing 3rd in the state of Delaware we got almost $6K which was enough to get 7 players round trip to Vegas, hotel at the Circus and $330 spending money for the ones that shared a room. That's a week paid vacation in Vegas and the chance to play in a huge tourney. Not too bad.
Like I said I wish it were Diamond, but the Valleys were better than the ones here in Delaware.
In all the wishing for Diamond tables that has been expressed, it hasn't been said that not everyone gets excited about playing on them. I do like them myself, but I don't choose where to play by the brand of tables. A significant number of people out there who are accustomed to playing at bars on Dynamos and Valleys don't like the more demanding Diamonds. Maybe the APA is catering to the larger audience with their equipment choice.
