I wonder if it could be a Diamond Smart Table. If so, then nobody really needs to be collecting the table time.Williebetmore said:Tracy,
Man, those are good ideas. I sort of like the idea of players paying table time. I have this nightmare of people kicking in for a table, then NEVER getting to play on it because someone is monopolizing play. Even at $5 and hour for the table, over 8 days it almost pays for itself if it is kept busy.
Exactly! A very generous offer SJM.OldHasBeen said:Back in my day - You would be called A SPORT.
I think table time may help prevent your previously mentioned nightmare from becoming a reality. I would like to see a responsible person, have the ability to over-ride the table time, in the case of a pro exhibition.Williebetmore said:OHB,
What were your thoughts on paying table time?
So far, I've heard some incredible names bandied about as possibly making an appearance.
If the winner beats the big name player (yeah right) he gets the other half of the proceeds.RSB-Refugee said:I just had another idea, we could sell raffle tickets all week long. Winner of the raffle gets to play a big name player in a race to X, hopefully at least to 9. The big name player, hopefully Efren, gets half of the proceeds.

Having some of the pros show up is not out of the question however expecting them to hang out and play cheap sets is pretty far fetched IMO. Between preparing for matches and enjoying other endeavors (gambling sessions,floating casino,alcohol) many are "too busy" to fraternize for extended periods. I do however think that the room will get plenty of use. Getting closer to the magic #, keep those pledges coming in. (I feel like I am answering phones for Jerry's Kids.)

Even at $5 and hour for the table, over 8 days it almost pays for itself if it is kept busy. Maybe we could get donators to front the $1000, then return any portion not used; or as you say have some sort of contest (a "mini" on 1 table is a little difficult, but not impossible at DCC if the numbers are small). Who would collect the table time?????
I VERY MUCH like the idea of getting pro's to play cheap challenges (or expensive if that is someone's taste). Perhaps the members that know pro's (or are pro's) could wangle a 1 hour block of time - we post it on a board inside the room ahead of time - then everyone could challenge the pro for $5, $10, or $20 (the pro's may want at least a $20 game). Friends should probably offer to back their pro for any overall losses (just in case, remember 9-ball is a stupid game). Would these challenges, if pre-arranged, have preference over ongoing action on the table? I, for one, would be mortified if I got a top pro to commit to a time, and then couldn't get them on the table.
Is anyone interested in getting a couple of pro's to shoot it out on our table (like a private gunfight) - or are we mainly thinking about us playing on it. I know I am much more interested in spectating than playing (well except for WallyinCincy), but I have no idea what others think.
What do people think about these ideas?

Willie Betmore = $100
SJM = $50
KtownD = $40
Gerry = $100
RSBRefugee = $50
Mthornto = $50
VonRhett = $50-$100
Raemondo = $20
MikeTempleton = ????
Boradriver = $20
Total so far = $480 - $530
Pro’s mentioned so far in PM’s or on thread (should be considered WILDLY speculative at this point)
Buddy Hall
Danny Basavich
Sarah Rousey
Jeanette Lee
George Breedlove
Grady Mathews
Man, who wouldn’t want to match up with one of them for a game or two??
P.S. - Are we all talking about matching up with these pro's (not just paying $5, $10, or $20 just to play them)? Do you guys think the pro's are even interested in playing if there is a chance they'll owe money if they lose? What kind of situation would all of you like to see regarding the pro's???
