I got another of my infamous ideas! Scotch Doubles winner gets pick between Geo. or Jeanette, the runner up gets the one that is left. I think this would be fun and memorable. The AZer that wins on the table would have a heck of a tale to tell the grandkids someday.

T-man,
That would be eminently possible, if people are interested let me know. I can tell you it would be a VERY entertaining match - definitely a great opportunity for woofing. Also with 2 "winners" of the raffle, it might generate more interest. If twenty people are interested we could probably arrange it ahead of time.
 
I'd like to have an opportunity to participate in Pro-Am scotch one-pocket action (race to 2, grady rules?)--after all onepocket.org members are partially hosting the room too! One-pocket is the game I prefer to play and sweat. Maybe the various pool games could be rotated somehow, including banks, 9-ball, and maybe 8-ball as well. Just a thought--there's going to be a lot going on at DCC anyway.

Grady, God love him, with my permission, used my Speedo-Onepocket rules at one of his tournaments. (an abbreviated version by the way) Just check the back pages of my Banking With The Beard book. I show the trademarked version there. I would be glad to demonstrate those rules in our room in DC. They would work well to keep the bank and Onepocket matches from taking too long.

I've been wanting to ask and keep forgetting, but what ever happened to Tom Spencer?
He came to the first Denver Open and went through that thing like gas through a funnel. I saw him a bit later in Vegas at the Miller Lite thing and never saw him again..
He played Country Calvin and I made some money on it. Just kind of curious.

Yes, one-pocket will be one of the official games of the challenge table.

I'm not sure about the pro-am. I would definitely like to make it happen; but I need some consensus on which pro to recruit. If you find me a one-pocket pro then maybe that could happen.

So far, out of the 49 people pledging funds, 3 of them are from onepocket.org.

I am anxious to hear these Freddy B. one-pocket rules.
 
To all contributors and interested parties,

This week has been very busy with OldHasBeen, SemperFi, and myself in contact with Greg Sullivan, the hotel, and each other. Greg has had many concerns with this new venture. We are doing EVERYTHING in our power to make sure that his concerns (and those of the hotel and vendors) are adressed to everyone's satisfaction.

As with all ventures, there have been lots of surprises and unexpected restrictions and problems. I am EXTREMELY confident however, that all problems have been or will be solved, and I am extremely optimistic that it will be a TREMENDOUSLY positive experience.

To make this happen (and to give ourselves a chance to be invited back next year), everyone will have to stick to the rules regarding the room. We do NOT want to become the "Rule Police", but we won't be going back if we embarrass Greg, the hotel, or ourselves. Once everything is finalized I will make a separate thread of the "Official Rules" (please remember these rules are basically being dictated to us, not a result of our desire to rule the world).

One major concern is the request to have a core group of players who will monitor the room (basically spending some substantial blocks of time physically present). The person holding the key will be the one responsible; but we really want to encourage people to drop by, even for a few minutes at a time; and we don't want to make things too cumbersome for SemperFi who will have the key sign-out sheet. I am the hardest core spectator there is (I guarantee it); but this first year I will volunteer some substantial time to stay in the room. Any other suckers.......errrr... volunteers????
 
You have a big problem with the key. I still think everyone who contributes should have a cardkey. The room door might not have that feature,but it is needed. I am a member of several private rooms and most have a keyless,push button code lock. You know the code,your in. This will allow everyone to move freely and come and go as they please,which I think was the original intent of the room idea. The Ex-West should be able to encode our room card keys to open the AZ-OP room.

I think their concerns were more with the behavior of people once inside the room, rather than who gets in (though they did want it restricted to AZB'ers and pro's).

I'll look into it.

Then How would you (or anyone) know who was responsible for the room on Monday evening between 7:30 - 8:00pm when someone trashed the room?

Even though I'm not getting a paid vacation from work that week and Inside Pool offered me a deal, I still had to think about it for a day before I answered them because this is my first time and just like WBM, nothing makes me happier than to be in the stands sweating some great pool matches. Working 6 hr days at the booth is going to cut into my sweat time. However, I will do what I can to fill in the gaps along the way.
 
Actually, someone came up with a pretty good idea:

What if we divided the whole tournament into 6 hour blocks, then we would only need 28 volunteers to do a 6 hour stretch, then make the schedule ahead of time so everyone would know when their shift was.

I will do a couple of stretches. Grady's delightful wife Randi has volunteered to spend some quality time there, probably a shift or two or three. This really sounds feasible. We could make a schedule; then first come, first serve on filling the slots. I think from what I have seen so far that most of the slots would fill (we could close the room during times when no one signed up). This would pretty much relieve SemperFi from key duty; it could just be passed along.

I like it - what do you guys think (I'll volunteer to do the scheduling if we think this is a good idea).

I can't do a 6 hr block. I'm already working 6 hrs at the booth everyday. I'll help out & fill in when I can.... I can't commit to working a 12 hr day at Derby.

IP wants it open 12 hrs a day. I'm hoping to split it into a 2 or 3 hr block at a time... It just depends on what the other person wants to do. When I have free time I'll be more than happy to stop in and give the person on duty a break....

Just kidding. You are not obligated in ANY way to monitor - your only obligation is to enjoy yourself!!!! You actually have a real job, the rest of us will pick up the slack.
