This is for discussion and following of the Final match of the WPC. Who do you think will take it?

I'd like Gomez to win it but Peach looks strong....too close to call actually. maybe home court advantage would be a factor but then again, it didn't help bustamante much....

Two GREAT players - each has earned their way to this match, but the homefield advantage will definitely be a factor, combined with the fact that Darryl eliminated a Filippino legend, Bustamante - they will definitely be cheering on Superman.

Daryl Peach should be called THE PIT because he is so tough. The way he held up under the pressure of the situation with Bustamante was incredible.

On the other hand Superman looked invincible, especially with his scores against his opponents in his last 5 matches.

Peach impresses the hell out of me. He is the epitome of DISCIPLINE.

Young, handsome, talented Gomez could beat anyone in the world right now if he continues playing the way he has been. However, he may need one more splash of seasoning. We'll see. It will be something to watch, with no AC before the match and no lights on the table and a DIFFERENT TV TABLE to boot. It should be harder to run racks and harder to make the wing ball on the break. More humidity means tougher times ahead.

The Filipinos are probably more suited for high humidity conditions. What say you BRITS (about the ability of THE PIT to adjust to high humidity conditions)?

Has anyone ever gotten as hot as Gomez is right now in any pool event ever played? Geez, 10-1 over Lely, 10-2 over Chao, 11-0 over Feijen, 11-4 over Kuo, and 11-4 over Boyes. Has anybody ever had an easier cruise through a super-elite field than this?

Peach is playing beautifully, but Gomez is on fire and I'm guessing he'll win this.

What time is the final US Eastern. I think Gomez has a extreme coolness about him, but as we all know it can come down to the breaks.

1:30 a.m., about 13 hours from now, is the FINALS!

GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GOMEZ!

Match

yes, but sometimes those 'fires' go out overnight, especially playing on a not-so-familiar or easy table.

I am picking Peach on this one .... Why, because he has had to reach down deep again and again to be here, and Gomez has not been really tested with the pressure yet, but I think he will be in the Final.

Gomez's fire gets turned down, Peach hangs with him, and wins the pressure battle in the end, with Gomez getting upset before the match is over.

It's great to see two fresh faces in the final - I think it will come down to nerves - and who can keep their composure... Darryl has proven his ability to deal with the pressure thus far in the tournament, which could come into play during this match.

Does anybody know who is going to be the ref this match?

He is in amazing form at the moment. I just read they are changing the table for the match. They are dismantling TV table 2 and moving it into the main TV table 1 position. This is the table where the wing ball isn't wired for the soft break. It should make it a little more interesting, where hopefully safety battles and spectacular shotmaking take the place of a perfect break pattern.

Daryl is a fearless player, he is incredibly focused in whatever match he is playing, be it a WPC match or a UK Tour match.

I am of course rooting for Daryl but I know it is going to be a really tough match.

For some reason, last night I thought I read something about Mikeala I THINK. :) I was exhausted and couldn't focus so don't hold me to that.

There's a lot of pressure on Gomez.
Too close to call.
I say Peach is a 6-5 favorite. :)

After dominating the the recent Euro Tour events, taking the IPT by storm, and now worse case 2nd and 3rd and the WPC what can I say!

Go GREAT Britain! :D :D :D :D :D

As most who saw it agreed the Peach v Busta match was one of the most tense exciting sporting matchups I've ever seen in any sport! If anyone ever needed any evidence that pool isn't a good TV sport then watch this match!!!

Needless to say it was the game itself and the skill of the players that provided the drama, pool can be a great TV product if managed well.

One thing that goes Superman's way is his ability to adjust what the table
gives him and his coolness under pressure. He was 4-zip down against Karl
Boyes on a table that wasn't so kind on soft breaks last night, but still
manage to win convincingly, winning 11 games in a row while switching to
the hard break (thnx to NBC for the rack by rack!). From the way he
cruised in his last 4 games (10-1 over Lely, 10-2 over Chao, 11-0 over
Feijen, 11-4 over Kuo) you will think he will be nervous or ruffled a little
when Boyes had a great jump on him. But Gomez remained cool, calm and
collected and patiently waited for his turn to unleash his whole arsenal
of offensive shots and defensive tactics (thnx to BPG24 for the vids!) to
finish Boyes with plenty to spare!

Daryl Peach ain't too shabby neither as he made short work of Vilmos
Foldes (11-2) after that "incident" against Busti. I hate to be in his place
right now. He will be playing under hostile environment and if he could just
silence the crowd and keep Gomez stuck in his chair, he will be alright,
other than that, I say it's Superman over Lex Luthor, but not after some
scary Kryptonite moments! :D

look at the azb. interviews

azb.tv has some interviews that might shed some light on he subject. His promoter reminds every one how gomez was the number 1 qualififer last yr and only made it to the final 64 While Alcono was much lower in the rankings and won. It will be a blow out Gomez wants this too much and he has put in the practice. I vote R. Gomez mark

This is a very good summary.

With Kuo out now, I'll be rooting for Gomez. I still feel bad for Fransico...
