Ah hahahaha. lmfao, hilarious. ya know...someone should give the man some credit. He quite possibly is the biggest "character" in the game. and a hell of a player.

OMG, I never thought about it but look at them, if Yosemite Sam and Chuck Norris had a child, it really could be Earl.

Thanks for the morning chuckle.

Earl Shooting + Guy Eating Chips = Black Eye :D

Appropriate.... Earl was playing a GSBT event at the Palace in Greenville, SC a year or so back. A girl was sitting on the sidelines eating potato chips. Earl went off, saying that the rattling bag was jarring him. He got so mad that he forfeited and quit the tournament....

LMAO!!! I'm glad I didn't have a mouthful of milk when I saw those pictures (I hate it when milk gets shot out through my nose :sorry:).

Funny sh*t right there!!!

I'm not trying to go off topic with this response, but your story makes me want to share a personal break through I had with my game. I've spent a lot of time watching the Star Billiards stream (http://www.starbilliards.co.cc/) since last December or so. I began to notice something with the Filipinos. When I played in the 9 ball at the Derby this year for the first time it became even more obvious to me when observing their play. They do not sweat the small stuff. Noise, conditions, where the chalk is at on the table, etc does not matter to them. They may be aware of it, but they do not stress about it. You'll see matches at Star where people are leaning on the tables directly next to theirs, sometimes even leaning on the table they are shooting on, or the magic rack sitting on the table the entire rack. They just shoot pool. EVERYONE should take note of this.

Once I realized I didn't need a specific amount of warm up time before a match, whether the chalk is upside down on the table, if my favorite song was on the jukebox or if there was potato chip crunching going on in the background, I was able to put my focus where it should be, on the table.

Just play pool, Earl.

chips? really?

Aren't there better alternatives to sell to people than chips at a pool tournament? Fries, pizza, sandwiches, hotdogs, none of these things crunch loudly. Even the chip bag crunches and I have seen spectators use this on players. Not cool. If you don't like Strickland, then pick your favorite player who can actually hear chips and you tell me if it is ok for them to be distracted by crunching. If your answer is yes that's ok, then tell me this: Everyone gripes about low spectator turnout at tournaments - how many major pro tournaments would you travel to attend if you had spent a bunch of money and time TRAVELLING and your fave player's performance was ruined by distraction? In '97 I believe, I went to the world championships near Chicago. Efren Reyes, who I had travelled far to see on a limited income, was shooting when a photographer used a flash bulb right in his line of sight. He was clearly blinded by the flash. Typical of him, he did not get mad but he floundered after that and I missed out on seeing him do his magic. Fong Pang Chow in the finals vs. Archer was not my dream matchup. But Fong Pang was not blinded, Efren was. Let's all respect ANY player's complaints regarding distractions. Golf fans show this respect, and we all have to keep reading about why pool is not major like golf. Duh, winning.

I knew it all along! Pool isn't major like golf because of .... POTATO CHIPS!

Seriously though, golf fans eat chips, flash cameras and all that stuff too. I hear what you're saying about everything else in your post, but the fans eating chips and flashing cameras is certainly not what's holding pool back. Pool fans are quite tame compared to fans of most major sports, and I would say even more tame than golf fans on the whole. Ever see the 16th during the Phoenix Open? Yikes.
