5c. Is it Jennifer Chen? She seems to like the turquoise color on her cues.
Yes, she had a Sledgehammer made with an ebony forearm and butt sleeve, with silver stitch rings, with floating ivory points with turquoise inlays. It was truly beautiful.

Part 1 - who was the title sponsor, and what was the reward for winning the tournament - Meucci. Meuccis for all!!!

Part 2 - (this is a toughie) - multi part question

a) name all the members of Team USA

Nick, Sigel, David Howard, Buddy Hall, Strickland, Hopkins, Rempe, Ray Martin, Lou Butera

b) Name all the members of Team Ireland

Oddly enough, I have a tape of these guys. I'll have to watch it when I get home. There must have been a Sean Murphy in there.

c) name all the members of Team Phillipines

Luat, Andam, Parica, Reyes, Bustamante, Edgar Acaba. Maybe Rosario, but he wasn't on TV, I believe

d) name all the members of Team Hawaii

Rodney Morris was one of them...

e) name all the members of Team Puerto Rico

Mike Lebron, Frankie Hernandez, Marco Marquez, Tony Robles, Efren Morales, Jose Robles

This was team Germany -

Norbert Lang (RIP) <--- one of the very few European players at the time that showed any decent stroke. I believe he was a side-armer
Werner Grewatsch
Ralf Souquet
Tomas Engert
Vadimar Markert

Part 3 - Who won the tournament, who did they beat -

Team Philippines beat Team Puerto Rico

Part 4 - Who knocked Team USA out - and why was it controversial?

Double elimination. Team Canada and Team Puerto Rico.

The Puerto Rican contingent was made up of players that would hardly be considered a Puerto Rican team. Some years/months later, I believe Team Philippines played against Team USA, even though Team USA never made it out of their bracket.

Part 5 - Who was the coach of team USA and who was the Captain of Team USA? Lou Butera and Ray Martin, respectively?

Best of luck... these are easy if you know who to ask.
SO, what's the answer???

To which question?

What has 4 legs, is big, green and fuzzy and if it fell out of a tree it would kill you?

Only correct one is #7, as Parica was the player that was beaten by Deuel in the final of the 2001 BCA Open. Allison Fisher is correct on #8, but you didn't name the event.

Jim

You got #1 right, it was George "Ginky" SanSouci that lost to Archer in the final of the 2000 BCA Open.

You also got #7 right, Parica was beaten by Deuel in the final of the 2001 BCA Open.

Other answers are wrong.

In 1993, Don Mackey and Bob Meucci started a tournament with several teams around the world, it was called World Team Billiards -

Part 1 - who was the title sponsor, and what was the reward for winning the tournament -

Meucci. Meuccis for all!!!

Not exactly. The reward was a trophy known as "The Mosconi Cup". I'm not sure if they got Meucci's. If they did, I'm sure Earl has never used his. :)

The title sponsors were Meucci and World Wide Collectibles...remember that? Billiards Trading Cards.

Part 2 - (this is a toughie) - multi part question

a) name all the members of Team USA

Nick, Sigel, David Howard, Buddy Hall, Strickland, Hopkins, Rempe, Ray Martin, Lou Butera

In the actual Tournament, Ray Martin was not part of the team, Kim Davenport was - besides him, the only player you missed was Johnny Archer- CJ Wiley was an alternate - Butera did not play, he was the coach. Ray Martin took part in the exhibitions that were held prior to the actual World Team Billiards Tournament.

b) Name all the members of Team Ireland

Oddly enough, I have a tape of these guys. I'll have to watch it when I get home. There must have been a Sean Murphy in there.

Not exactly, but there was a Shawn McDermott. I don't have all the names, but I'm sure Tommy Donlon was playing on the team.I have some of this stuff on video also.

c) name all the members of Team Phillipines

Luat, Andam, Parica, Reyes, Bustamante, Edgar Acaba. Maybe Rosario, but he wasn't on TV, I believe

Edgar Acaba that was an alternate and he also played very well in the exhibitions. Rosario was present but did not play.

d) name all the members of Team Hawaii

Rodney Morris was one of them...

Alvin Lee, Brian Hashimoto, Evan Kakugawa, Rodney Morris, ??? Marshall.

e) name all the members of Team Puerto Rico

Mike Lebron, Frankie Hernandez, Marco Marquez, Tony Robles, Efren Morales, Jose Robles

It was Efrain Morales, not sure if Marco was part of the actual tournament or not.

This was team Germany -

Norbert Lang (RIP) <--- one of the very few European players at the time that showed any decent stroke. I believe he was a side-armer

Norbert had that Willie Hoppe side arm stroke, very pure. He was a very nice man. Ralf Souquet has told me that Norbert passed away a few years ago. I've never asked Ralf what happened. Do you know?

Ralf Souquet
Tomas Engert
Vadimar Markert
Werner Grewatsch

Part 3 - Who won the tournament, who did they beat -

Team Philippines beat Team Puerto Rico

Part 4 - Who knocked Team USA out - and why was it controversial?

Double elimination. Team Canada and Team Puerto Rico.

The Puerto Rican contingent was made up of players that would hardly be considered a Puerto Rican team. Some years/months later, I believe Team Philippines played against Team USA, even though Team USA never made it out of their bracket.

Actually, the finals or the tournament were held in Las Vegas in conjunction with the World 9 ball Championship. Team USA was on hand to perform and exhibition against the "World All-Stars" ... sort of a compilatiation of players from the other teams. They lost again. lol..

As far as the controversy, Jose Robles made a kiss shot (2-9) - Team USA was not sure if he had called the combination or not, Mike Sigel has never believed that the guy actually played the shot, and has said it was "a stab in the dark." Bottom line, they were upset by Team Puerto Rico and never advanced past the first round. Puerto Rico advanced to the finals, where they were easily defeated by the Puyat contingent.

Team Hawaii was the only team that defeated Team Philippines. That took place in the preliminary rounds at The Bicycle Club.

Part 5 - Who was the coach of team USA and who was the Captain of Team USA? Lou Butera and Ray Martin, respectively??

Lou Butera was the "coach" and Allen Hopkins was the Captain of Team America, despite the presence of Captain Hook and a Colonel from Kentucky.

Hell yea Blackjack!...I have a set of those playing cards out in the pool room! I had 5 sets and sold the others......

Gerry

4) Who did Ga Young Kim beat in the final of the 2005 Women's Challenge of Champions?

Norbert died of problems with his liver. He was pure talent at the pool table.
