I will put up a bodybuilder against most anybody in flexability, where do you get your information??? It's people like you spouting misinformation that keeps alot of people out of the gym & unhealthy. If you don't know what you're talking about please stay quiet. You not only look better with weight training you also feel better & it will improve your play!!!
Personally, I think any kind of physical training on a regular basis will make you a better player and able to maintain focus longer. Yoga, cardio of some sort, bodybuilding/strength training, rollerblading/biking , ..... any and all mixes of them all .....If nothing else, it helps clear your head.

Well, looking at that first photo, no, he wouldn't be winning any Arnold Awards, but you can tell that he definitely works out more than just getting some exercise.

Anyway, just my personal experience, I started getting into the weight loss/exercise thing just after my 39th birthday. I started with the Body For Life Challenge (www.bodyforlife.com). After the first month, following the program to the letter, my blood pressure, although not very high to begin with, dropped from 128/80 down to 104/68. I had tons of energy and was feeling like nothing could stop me. I honestly didn't play any pool that first month. I didn't even go to the pool room. But when I finally did get back to shooting pool I noticed a few things right off the bat. My break stroke was in tune like it never had been before. The cue felt right, my arms/legs/back were loose and my timing was unreal. On top of that I noticed that I wasn't tiring out as easily after a few hours of play and my back/shoulders weren't getting sore. I attributed everything coming from the exercise. I dropped off that regimen for a few months and things went back to the way they were.

There is no doubt in my mind that regular exercise, and I'm talking weight training and cardio training, will greatly improve your game.........in that your body and mind will be in better condition to put up with the rigors of what it takes to stay bent over a table for hours at a time.

I know a lot of people that say "But I don't have the time to do that." Well, I thought that way too but the reality of it is that I spend plenty of time watching TV. I only need to give up less than an hour a day to help take care of myself. If you really look at your day you'll find the time. The other argument is that "I'm tired after working all day and I just want to sit down" Well, it may suck at first but once you get adjusted to the program you'll find that you have more energy and aren't as tired after work as you used to be. The long and the short of it is this, if you want to get into shape there is no miracle cure. You have to decide to do it and make no excuses. Eat right and exercise. Don't waste your time with any gimmicky weight loss pills or junk like that. Eat right and exercise. Pretty simple concept. Hard to stick to, I know, but that's the only real way to get it done. People are always looking for a quick fix to losing weight. They also want to continue eating they way they do but still lose weight so they go for the diet pills, diet sodas etc.... Doesn't work.
that photo I posted of myself before, I weighed 375lbs there.

they would not let me give ya rep for putting this this well. You're preaching to the choir here.

Have you noticed almost every swimmer in the Olympics had a fat face (steriod face)? You don't traln to make your face bigger. This has been going on for years in most sports. The soon as they get a test for what's being used now, someone back at the lab makes a different type that will go undetected for awhile. Want to stop it? First time caught, banned for life. Probably too simple. Johnnyt

I've been working out for 20+ years (I'm 41)- while I still enjoy the gym and go four or five days per week, the best investment I've made in a long time has been $1,000 for a Concept2 rower (www.concept2.com)- I row five days per week (early mornings before breakfast on gym days), and, in less than five months, I've achieved a higher level of overall fitness than the gym alone ever let me reach.

If I ever have to give up the gym due to injury, I have no doubt that the rower would allow me to maintain (or increase) the gains it's taken me years to make- I highly recommend it- it's a relatively inexpensive alternative to a gym membership and you can use it in the comfort of your home.

These guys that look pretty miss shapen also inject site enhancement oils into areas where they want to look bigger. Its not steroids, but if you are injecting oils just to look bigger then im sure thats not the only thing theyre doing to them selfs.

But from my personal experience, i felt better all the way around with everything including pool. But it did limit my flexibility when i had to stretch and days when i was sore or real tight it didnt really help my game.
But my cue always felt super light right after i worked out.

You can search for oil injections and see some pretty nasty stuff. I looks worse that guy most of the time if the dude went crazy with the stuff.

cool, thx Bull for the pic,

tomarrow i will make some good posts aboutmy ecperience from being fat to fit, seeing that pic hurts, man if i didnt lose those 3 years i winer where i would be, i was 38 then primer years for big guys, gone it will take me 6 months to get like thay again,

the reason forthe pic is for credibility, it took me along time about 6 years the first 7 years i had bad trainers to build that body, i have had frinds who look better after 2 years.

this thread will only tell my story and be a open forum about training in the gym and pool, like never train chest/pecks when you plan on playing, your pecs do the majority of the work, when they are jelly from training or sore the next day you will see, funny thing i you can train Bi's and Tri's and it dosent hurt your game much.

I'm off to bad, i really want to ansere questions about others-NOT me, i may relate the anseres to myself but this aint about me!!! Some guys help alot in the 14.1 forum, or the ask he cue maker, well this is to discuss opinion questions, hell i hope I learn alot with this thread, since players dont have the habits of yesteryear, I thought a monster thread about self improvment is better than all the destructive shit here lately, please dont fvck it up by slamming me, i'm realistic and know i'm not body builder on the outside but I do know the inside of the sport, and how its possible to be fit snd not have the gym ruin your srtoke.

so again lets learn not bash, i'm tired of the cue was late, i lost a bet, you wont play me, all that nrgitive shit is one of thr other reasons i left pool, its actually possible to be happy and play good if not better.

i'm going to bed, thanks gentqmnen and the laydes

ps i know the spelling is way off i'm beyond sleepy

Fatboy, I have trained very hardcore before, and not knowing, won big money and played long sessions. It doesn't matter what you are training the day of play as long as you work out consistently and don't take consecutive days off, (more than 4 in a row) to make yourself sore. As a matter of fact, recently I have been gambling with a guy early in the day and not working out before play, and have found that I don't play as well. There is no substitute for warming your muscles up and being loose and ready to play. A good friend and one of the best hustlerS once told me....." YOU HAVE TO BE DESERVING OF YOUR REWARD"

it will never be a fair playing field cause you cant catch them, individual/olympics sports let them compete against each other seperate podiums natural or juiced. i mean in the right doces roids are not that bad

there were some odd looking swimmers though!

I have to agree there were some odd looking swimmers. I'm thinking that between doping and blatantly biased judging this may be the worst Olympics I have ever seen, of course that will be true until the next one! Anyone remember Salt Lake and judges swapping out wins? The whole event was bought for only $400,000! Had New Orleans known that the Winter Olympics could be bought for pocket change we would have been hosting every one of them, no snow or ice is just a minor detail.

Looks to be a LOT of Photoshop....look at the telephone pole on the right, see how it's bending? A sign of the 'bloat' tool using PS.

Although...I imagine he was a good sized boy to begin with.
