The Siberian Express is About to Roll

Missed a near 90 degree cut shot break at 238. I bet Bob J could have made it;)
No, I could not have, at least not with a cut. The ball kissed out because the cue ball came straight off the rack and kissed it onto the side rail. Well, maybe I would have been smart enough to play the cue ball off the rack to the carom. Or maybe not.

Well it is my event correct?
If you don't like the way I run it than you have other options like not watching it or be concerned of the qualifications.Sorry it bothers you that much that you have to vent your feelings. Life can be difficult at times especially when you have the ability to watch World Champions play on a free live stream.
Its your event but you're making shit up. That's not cool. Ruslan is not a 2x WC. Shane is not a WC.

127 per inning is fairly good. If he could keep up that pace, he would be even money to break 627 in 100 tries.*

In fact, 127 is the highest BPI average I've ever seen.

(* I am in no way claiming that he will have 100 tries, or be required to shoot 100 tries, or be stopped at 100 tries, or ever play pool again. I just wanted that to be clear. This time. 100 is just a number. A nice, round number.)

He didn't say WPA event , Ruslan is a 2 time Kremlin World Cup champion, and Shane has several coined World events including, UPA worled straight pool championship 2019 , , and in the end the famed saying applies , what difference does that make ?
Your seeing world class 14-1 play , sit back and enjoy what's he's done on his own dime

I don't think most people understand just what they have seen today , I've said right from the batt he will beat Shane's 308 , Rulan is no joke no one in the world has to like playing him in a race to 2k balls ,

Switching gears in the thread, there are likely several dozen players, even probably including a few snooker players in my opinion, who could break Mosconi's old record of 526 within say six months if they were sufficiently motivated. While it is still a hell of a feat, John was just the first one that was sufficiently motivated to do it. Breaking John's new record of 626 is of course going to be harder, but most of the same guys would still be capable. The key is just the willingness to put in the hours that would be needed to really learn all the best patterns and break shots (particularly for those that weren't already top straight pool players but it would come reasonably quickly for most) and the hours needed to end up hitting a long streak of good luck (or a long streak without bad luck, however you want to look at it).

I'm sure one of the 237 world champions Bobby has lying around will do it. Let me be the first to request that whoever breaks the 626 be given the title of 5 time World Champion.

im sure that given enough tries the record will be broken. but what i would like to see is, it done on a pro table like a gold crown or diamond that was not altered for playing conditions as it came from the factory. then its a true indisputable record.

Calling all those events World Championships dilutes the actual World Championships. Shane will be the first person to tell you that the World Championship title has eluded him. We've all hashed this out for years mostly due to Charlie's events. This straight pool contest had enough controversy surrounding it due to personal relationships, which were impossible to avoid unless the clock was rewound 20 years. But to add this World Championship controversy to it was completely unnecessary and completely avoidable.

While I am enjoying watching the event, I am also looking this gift horse in the mouth.

The table is a Gold Crown 3. Whats altered? Whatever record your speaking of table was it altered or do you even know? We have given full transperecy of the event table already.

Is there any chance for Varner to play? Of course he's older, but he could probably still put up some nice numbers. Maybe a day of him just for fun?

Earl I also think would be fun to watch, and I do think he still has the game to run 400 given enough tries. I don't think he'd go nuts in a challenge like this. I think he'd be jolly the whole time.

Always a chance for Varner. He has a great attitude and certainly qualifies. As for Earl I was asked to talk to him and was setting up a meeting and then after his blowup at the American 14.1 which I witnessed from the commentators booth I decided to not speak to him anytime soon as he is a little unpredictable. He certainly has the knowledge and the talent but to unpredictable right now.

I think it comes down to what Nick pointed out up thread. Sinking balls is work. Professionals aren't going to spend a lot of time doing it unless they're paid in some way. John Schmidt decided on his own dime to try and break the record that had stood for70 years and he succeeded.

Schmidt's new record seemed to create interest in 14.1 - enough that now we have an event where selected players (who are not named John Schmidt) are invited to try to break the record and are getting paid for it.

Make the remuneration good enough, and you'll find people who will try. But it's still work.

I was really surprised at the admittedly crude statistics that can give you a rough idea of how much effort it will take to break Schmidt's record. (Thanks Bob!!). For SVB, it's about 12 times the work he already put in - that's about 70 days work. For RC, it's might be as low as 10 times the work he's put in, if he can sustain that level of performance - or about 10 or 12 days. There are no guarantees though. How much money would it take for you to drop what you're doing for 70 days? 10-12 days?

The statistics part fascinates me, and I look forward to seeing how some of the top 14.1 players, like Chinakhov and Hohmann, will play. So far it's been a real education.
