The truth about the GSBT event in Bristol TN

This is FACT for the GSBT tour.....rooms paid......food paid

how do you know that is a fact. i've asked before and you still haven't answered. so again i am calling bullshot on your rumor mill. stop hating on these people because you don't cash in thier events or, if you are in fact, as some have speculated in this thread, mike janis. and i really hope you're not mike because i enjoy playing in his events too. but if it is proven you are, that will definately not be the case anymore.

This is an email that was sent from Janet to us.... And for the record Janet tried to pay for the hotel room and since all of this was stirring Shannon gave her the money back.

Shannon,
I just want to clear up a few things regarding the discussions on AZ. PLease feel free to copy and paste this to your site. I don't typically follow the forums but I've had several people telling me about comments that I think need clarification.

First of all, I want to thank you and Marge for a job well done and a successful event....no matter what the comments have been, overall I feel it was very successful. I had numerous compliments on the room and the tourney and have had calls since then asking when the next one will be.

On the downside, I had many complaints about the payouts. I was surpised myself to see that the green fees were basically half the amount of the entries. That seems a little steep. You may have told me this in our phone conversation 2 months ago and maybe it slipped my mind, nevertheless it upset several folks. I guess my biggest issue was it wasn't printed on the fliers and therefore the players had no way to know prior to entering the event. I think all deductions from an entry should be disclosed to the players prior to them committing to an event. You, Marge and myself had this discussion during the event. I'm partially to blame because we did nothing formally in writing about tournament fees due to the fact that we are friends and trust each other. I know that Marge has documented every penny that was taken in during that event and it was posted on the tournament chart for them to see. I want everyone to know that I don't feel like you were hiding or "robbing" the players in any discrete manner, you were just taking the fees that you charge to run the event. My problem with that is that you call it a green fee and most people associate a green fee with the room owner's return profit. This wasn't the case. I did'nt receive any of the green fees nor was I told that I would. I just want the public to be aware that I added $1500 and didn't take any of their entry fees. I did receive 5% of the auction and the Nick Varner Sneaky Pete Cue and $200 from the cue raffle, all of which was agreed upon prior to the event for hosting the tourney.

I think having 100 players says something for your tour and hopefully for me and my room. I am very thankful that we have that kind of support and hope that the payout issue does'nt become a factor in the future. I realize that there are many stops where you are not so successful and you need the good ones to help pay you for the bad ones. That's business and I understand that there has to be a profit or it is no longer a benefit to you. I hope that these players realize that 2 key things happened here: They got to play against some of the toughest players around for only $45-$60 and they were guaranteed that $1500 added if only 15 players showed up. It was you and I taking the chances here and it is like that every time you host an event.

For the next event lets be sure that we have everything documented. Not from lack of trust but lack of memory on my part. Please also make sure that the fliers and website shows a prize fund and entry fee breakdown so that no one feels they have been mislead. When disclosing the info it might be better to use a word other than green fees. Maybe change your registration fee to be $20-$25 and let the entry fee be just that and don't cut it any. Another suggestion might be to tier your personal income based on the entries. If you get over 50 players you could start to decrease your take because at 50 you have made a descent amount for running the event. Anyway, these are just a few suggestions concerning the feedback that I have received. Please don't take this as an insult. You guys did an awesome job running the event and I think we can do it again. I just want to keep the players happy and informed .We can talk about this for my next stop.

Good Luck this weekend!!!!

I've had to repeat this is every post I've made in this thread...but...

I'm editing this post just to say that Janet Atwell in the above posted email said it the best way that it could be said, nothing short of full disclosure is necesary.

With full disclosure in the fliers there is nothing to complain about because you know what to expect going in....

Winner of tournament = $1000
Tournament Directing = $2615

One guy plays multiple champions and has a REALLY hard days work and no Guarantees!!!

One guy does not have to play multiple champions and gets DOUBLE the payout virtually Guaranteed!!!

I see the point is HOW fair is it?????????

Not taking sides here!!! I think the director should be paid! How much they get paid is all relative!!!! Maybe some % formula is MOST appropriate in HINDSIGHT!!!

I think the original poster would not be upset if:
Winner of tournament =$2615
Tournament Directing =$1000

He would be quite as a church mouse!!!!!!

I also BELIEVE the GSBT fully disclosed the GREEN FEE and other information MATERIAL to ALL participants!!!! CRYING over it after the fact is NOT COOL! Especially, when no one broke your arm and forced you to PLAY!!! Exercise your WALLET and PLAY only where you get the best bang for your buck! Just, some friendly advise! Signing on like this and attacking someone's business is MALICIOUS and in very POOR taste.

KD

I can promise you that not one person in the 100 man tourney knew how much they were taking out. I've prolly played in 15 of their events and knew (like everyone else) that the payouts were a little weak, but i had NO idea they take out $27 from every $45.

Just throwing this out there, but I'm guessing that's because you don't bother listening to a damn thing during players meetings.

HMMMMMM.......... Sounds A LOT like what I said.

Did you play in the event??????? They have NEVER said they take that much. Not in the last 20 tourneys. And if you read the email from the room owner she obviously dissapproved of the money taken out too.

I was there, yes I played. I heard the entire breakdown. Were you one of the clowns they kept telling to quit banging balls around while they were explaining everything?

Listen, you may not agree with how the money was cut or how much went where and that is understandable but to hide behind a screen name just makes you look like a tool. You have a somewhat valid argument but the fact that you hide and throw stones makes you a hypocrite, a puss or both.

If you were there and played just say who you are. Why would you not? Are you afraid everyone will know you are full of shit or do you want to make sure you are still allowed to play in GSBT events? Either way it is weak sauce to hide behind a curtain like you are and expect people to give you the validity you desire.

When you state your name you will at least have some respect, but we both know you won't do that.

It's simple...... Shannon is a great player and he and Marge are nice people so people come to their defense quicky regardless of the facts. I did not want to be persecuted for telling the truth.

If you were at the event, then you should have looked at the tourney chart. It was all there just like in the last 20 events. If you need to borrow my calculator I will be glad to do that, too.

We have said that if we continue to get bigger fields we will put more in the prize fund. I am working on that now, and it will also be in writing for the room owner as well as the contract that we already have. In short, in the future ALL room owners will be given our business structure as was offered in this case. What else go you want from us?

As I have said before this has definitely been a learing expierence and in the future the "green fee" wording will definitely be changed! We have already sent flyers out for our upcoming events so those will not be changed but any that I make in the future will be broken down and itemized better than someone who is having their taxes prepared!

Thank you and have a nice day!

Continued good luck for your tour!

Don't let the nits get you down. It sounds like you have a great thing going on.

All I can say is I have played in a GSBT event and they did a great job. There is an old thread about my complaining about the owner and his room (which is since out of business) but I made sure that the GSBT folks were NOT blamed. I think they do a great job and I have no problem with their payout structure. I really dislike when tours have "tour cards" and didn't have that issue with GSBT. I was also very happy that they offered a league players discount! In these tournaments I'm really dead money, I enter for the experience and to meet great people and I did meet great people at the event I entered.

My only complaint? We need the GSBT to show up in Minneapolis (I used to live in Charlotte, NC). I know we're not the South, but, please come to MN!!!!! :)

OMG...OMG...The deception continues.....you put total purse on board which is calcutta plus players purse. Nowhere did it say $27 out of $45. Nowhere!!!! You guys are unbelievable. The owner of the pool room sent you an email saying the fees were too steep AND to not claim greens fees because they were not greens fees and you still dont listen. Read Janets email again. Lot of very negative stuff said in a nice way.

What is it you really want? They posted what the room owner said, they said that they will get better in the future... so what do you want?

Instead of hiding behind smoke and mirrors please justify having a 1500 added tourney and not even paying back the entry fees. Oh wait, you already had your chance and you didn't respond. Would Shannon attend a zero added tourney?

You are the one that just doesn't get it - the payout of how much each player paid and what was taken out was on there! Again, the registration fee - $10 a player (which takes the place of a tour card) which I have explained before, goes to clerical costs (fliers, ink cartridges, trophies, camera equipment, computers, etc.)

Would you like me to take a picture of the chart and send it to you? Would that suffice? Also, maybe you could come up with a word for "green fee" for us since you have had a major issue with that.

I guess also to please you I need to send you the other conversations that Janet and I have had regarding our next event.

What is your deal? You "supposively" played in the event and didn't like it, so I say to you maybe the GSBT isn't a tour that is gonna please you. At any time at the event you could have said something to me or Shannon. There are other tours that you can play in, maybe you will be happier there.

I will not post anymore on this situation because like I said before I really don't think your motives are legit.

Thanks again to Janet and Borderline Billiards for hosting the event and all of our sponsors, players, spectators for their continued support!

If you had been listening in the previous posts 100 players is not the norm for us. Our business structure is not set up on having that many players. But in the future we are gonna change that!!!

Apparently, nothing is gonna make you understand. You are someone that would hit the lottery and win 15 million and fuss that you didn't hit one for 50 million!

DONE!!!!
