The Ultimate Bar Box Challenge - anyone interested?

I've seen Keith play many, many times. He's way more entertaining than the Fat Man. I don't care how old he is, I'm sure he can still make the cue ball dance.

I'm surprised ANYONE would make a statement like this. Everyone has their Opinion, its sad you chose the above statement (Fat Man) to express your opinion, why, YOU show how little you actually know, except... how opinionated you actually are. I'm not willing to attack anyones opinion if it make some sense, but I do attack TOTAL ignorance.

Did you really think it necessary to make your opinion known by writing that Ltldebbie has "TOTAL ignorance"?

Did she write anything personally to you, target you personally in any way, that would require you to attack her intelligence in the manner you did?

I'm not sure whether you are upset because she referred to Rudolph Wanderone a/k/a Minnesota Fats as "Fat Man" or if you are upset because she said Keith McCready can "make the cue ball dance."

I just don't think it is necessary to express your dissatisfaction of Lildebbie's opinion in such a brutally frank manner. Maybe that is what AzBilliards Discussion Forum has become now, a place where folks can ridicule others, rip their words to shred, and drive well-intentioned posters away from this forum forever.

If that is the case, then have at it. I want no part of it anymore, and I don't think Mike Howerton intended this forum about pool to have this kind of climate. It is very sad what this forum has turned into, a place where folks are more upset about how much green rep they have than about a pool tournament in UAE.

Sometimes people like to make fun of posters for no damn reason, other than to get a laugh. A laugh at whose expense? Many pro players won't post on this forum because of the atmosphere. It is a shame that the climate isn't more welcoming.

I have seen some forums and newsgroups diminish in popularity when the climate of the forum becomes unacceptable. I really, really, really used to enjoy AzBilliards when it was a place to exchange pool strategies, learn about upcoming events, read trip reports with pictures, and find out insights about pool from around the world. Today, though there is still some great content and excellent members here, it is getting more and more difficult to weed out the assine and intentionally cruel posts such as yours.

That is my opinion, so have at me now. Take a pot shot at my opinion, like everyone else does. Rip my words to shreds. Post up a picture of me and insult me as a woman. Call me names and label me obscenities. That's the status quo on AzBilliards today. JMHO, FWIW.

Yes, you are right, Yobagua. There are some FINE pool folk on this forum. There is no doubt in my mind about that.

In fact, Lildebbie is one of them. She is a fairly new member to AzBilliards Discussion Forum. However, she is a veteran in the pool world, and it chaps my ass to read the response to her well-meaning post on this thread.

If somebody wants to disagree with an opinion, that is fine, but why respond to an innocent poster like Lildebbie with such a mean-spirited reply?

Sure, I can ignore it, move on, click the mouse, and not state an opinion about it, but Lildebbie does not deserve that. I have never met Lildebbie in person. I just met her on this forum for the first time, but I can tell you this, she is a pool veteran who's probably got more pool in her little pinky that some of the regular posters on this forum.

That's my story, and I am sticking with it, Yobagua! :)

I would like to see this done as well.
I like the idea of having a bar box champion, not a bar box tournament, but more like the boxing idea, you have a champion and then you have contenders, also, playing on a bar box(3 1/2 x 7), I always liked the idea of seeing the pro's in action on the table most league players shoot on. If the prize money is right you could see a lot of good matches with the title switching hands, you could also have under cards, maybe some of the best junior players squaring off ect.. set it up on PPV or sell them on DVD's, with a few hundred or so live viewers. Hope it works. Nate.

Thanks Nate -

I just want you to know that we are not only planning to do bar box events.

As far as "possible" venues go - as much as I would love to have this take place in Florida, Alabama, Vegas, or Los Angeles - I think it would be fitting if this event was held at Grady's - In fact I would love to have Grady be a part of this - in fact we would welcome his experience, leadership and input in every aspect of building something of this magnitude.

BlackJack,I'll offer a thought.

One thing that always catches my interest in the pool room is the "making" of the game. That is the "calling out" of another player, the shyatt talk that often insues as the spot or game gets made...and to which end the spot is settled and the match is on.

As you know, the money is often won or lost in the conversation before the first break...or someone has to outrun the nuts they just gave up for a chance at the cheese.

The game making should be part of the build up...stake horses in too if that is in the mix.Kinda like speed channels "pinks" negotiating car lenghts before each race.

If the verbage can be kept unique to the game, but yet uniform to the audience it will help sell itself. But most importantly,it will let the personalities of the players (and/or backers) come through....

Which we might agree,is what is sorely lacking on the espn.

So lets see em make the game, not just play it....and then see who can out play the very game the just made.Shit dude,I wouldn't miss in episode if it came on every night....and Joe average banger might tune in if he got to know some of the players though the tube me thinks.

Just my thought on it.Wishing you the best,

I think it's a great idea and I have no problem with where it's held, but I DO have a pet peeve. Having been raised in a city with no closing time, I am put off by things like 'last call for alcohol' and must be closed and vacated by 2:00-3:00 a.m.
Is Grady's a 24 hour spot ?

YOU CAN'T COMPARE anyone TO RUDOLPH...PERIOD.

Did she write anything personally to you, target you personally in any way, that would require you to attack her intelligence in the manner you did?
SHE ATTACKED THE MOST ICONIC PLAYER IN THE HISTORY OF THE SPORT WORLDWIDE.

I'm not sure whether you are upset because she referred to Rudolph Wanderone a/k/a Minnesota Fats as "Fat Man"...NOT....or if you are upset because she said Keith McCready can "make the cue ball dance." ...NOT...

I just don't think it is necessary to express your dissatisfaction of Lildebbie's opinion in such a brutally frank manner. TO COMPARE OR THINK ANYONE EQUAL TO FATTY IS NOT POSSIBLE OR REALISTIC.... Maybe that is what AzBilliards Discussion Forum has become now, a place where folks can ridicule others, rip their words to shred, and drive well-intentioned posters away from this forum forever...YOUR OPINION, I HAVE MINE...

If that is the case, then have at it. I want no part of it anymore,...GROW UP, CONFLICT IS GOOD IN LIFE...and I don't think Mike Howerton intended this forum about pool to have this kind of climate. It is very sad what this forum has turned into, CK ALL MY POSTS...I'VE BEEN BOLD AT MAKING MY STATEMENT BACK AT HER..YES, SHE MADE A BOLD STATEMENT ABOUT COMPARING "ANYONE" TO WHAT FATS IS, HAS BEEN, WAS AND SO FORTH... a place where folks are more upset about how much green rep they have than about a pool tournament in UAE.

Sometimes people like to make fun of posters for no damn reason, other than to get a laugh. ..I DIDN'T...A laugh at whose expense? Many pro players won't post on this forum because of the atmosphere. DITTO. It is a shame that the climate isn't more welcoming. I AGREE, UNTIL ABSURDITY SHOWS ITS FACE.

I have seen some forums and newsgroups diminish in popularity when the climate of the forum becomes unacceptable. Today, though there is still some great content and excellent members here,...YOU TOO.. it is getting more and more difficult to weed out the assine and intentionally cruel posts such as yours. SO YOU HAVE NEVER UPSET ANYONE BY ANY STATMENT YOU HAVE EVER SAID IN THE PAST, RIGHT???

That is my opinion, so have at me now...I LIKE YOUR OPINIONS... Take a pot shot at my opinion, like everyone else does. Rip my words to shreds. TAKE A CHILL PILL NOW, PRETEND YOU JUST MET KIETH IN COSTA MESA AND ITS A SUNNY DAY, summer 1976.....Post up a picture of me and insult me as a woman. ..HAVE NO REASON TOO... Call me names and label me obscenities. That's the status quo on AzBilliards today. JMHO, FWIW. YES WE ALL HAVE OHO AND FWIW'S. FATTY STANDS ALONE, YOU CAN'T COMPARE ANYONE, NOW OR EVER TOO HIM....PLAIN AND SIMPLE, IT'S TOTALLY OUT AH LINE.

Thanks Jenny,
I won't lower myself to responding to negativity. I just put it on ignore. I did get an interesting dare before I put him on ignore. I would only say double dog dare you if I had responded. The other suggestions sound great. I'd like Grady's room or where Earl plays. Also the suggestion about including the woofing to get down like they do in boxing was great. I hope this happens. I have never seen Scotty play (probably because of my current west coast location) I would love to see Judes room as a possibility as well. Just a thought. I'm not really very good at Marketing & Promoting. Unfortunately thats what I'm doing for a living. The pay is good though.

Why? because of her below quoted statement:??

"""I've seen Keith play many, many times. He's way more entertaining than the Fat Man."""

So Jim you also think Fats was not as entertaining as Kieth...............why is that? Fatty takes a back seat, could you please explain how come?

Grady's is not always open 24hrs, but anytime there is interest he has remained open. They have had several 24 hour days, and always will when action is happening.

She stated her OPINION. I have met some who saw Fats act and had the OPINION he was a blowhard two bit hustler whose main talent was capitalizing on another mans creation and irritating people into bad bets.

I personally never got to see the man in action or meet him so I have no OPINION. Although your over the top reaction to an innocent OPINION has influenced my OPINION of you.

One other thing....there was a time when Keith was considered by many the most dangerous player on earth. Fatty never got to that level.

"The World Has Got The 8" ~ Earthquake

Rudolph Wanderone was a lot of things in his long illustrious life - and though he was never the world's most dangerous player, he was (IMO) one of the kindest, most generous people I have ever met. He loved entertaining people, and he enjoyed making people smile, he just loved people. In fact, Fatty was very instrumental in helping put together the Johnson City Tournaments - he loved the game of pool and did everything in his power to promote it (and himself) every time he opened his mouth. Think about it, if we had a thousand Fatty's out there working their tail off promoting our game, maybe we'd get somewhere.

With all of these challenge matches being proposed, I figured I would toss this out there for everybody.

Who out there would pay to see this one?

King of The Bar Table
Scotty Townsend VS Keith McCready
Bar Box 9 ball
No Bet Limit
Unplugged
UNCENSORED
Uncut

....complete with backers, side action, - let them be who they are - let 'em play until one of them runs out the match or runs out of money. The winner gets Matlock in the next challenge - then we can toss in Nevel, Bowman, McMinn, other bar box monsters that have the backing and the cash.

Make it real.

Make it raw.

Make it entertaining.

Make it happen.

Fatboy, you listenin'? Give me a call.

Let's do this.

Keith, we can make this happen. Let me know. Your fans will be tripping over themselves to watch this one and I'm sure we can make this worth your while.

If anybody out there wants to help put this one together - get with me and let's make it happen. Serious inquiries only.

Any rooms willing to volunteer to host this one?

Anyone out there want to back Keith?

Anyone want to back Scotty?

I'm willing to organize this to make it happen - let me know.

;)
I think it is a good idea (obviously :D) We are working towards showing the characters in the game and the things you don't see on TV. The technical challenges to catch lightning in a bottle are not insignificant and something we have been working hard on overcoming. It comes down to equipment, skill, manpower and knowledge. We started way behind the curve on all of them but are getting better.

I would think the best course of action to go right for television coverage would be to go to the people who do it for a living.... production companies. To get something produced to a high enough production standard for broadcast is no mean feat and way over our heads. Honestly I would not even know where to start maybe you or some others have access to that knowledge. I have seen what goes into things like ESPN and Skysports broadcasts and it is daunting to say the least. From what I gather the show Pinks started as some guys with an idea who just basically went and did it, so it is possible. They started without putting up any (to my knowledge) prize money, just guys betting their cars.

Both guys would put on a great show and fight hard for the victory of that I am sure. I can tell you from experience that it is a b!tch to get one of these things organized and to actually go off, but it would pale in comparison to getting real corporate money behind it without taking hard verifiable numbers and demographics to prospective sponsors.

We have been lucky enough to work with BCA Pool Leagues and Diamond and they do it because they love pool and support damn near everything anyway :D We have had no success in landing any hard money advertisers or sponsors outside of pool or inside it for that matter. I am to the point where I believe you just have to build it and grow the interest from the ground up. When we (or anyone else) can take a polished product with a documented following and solid business plan to corporate sponsors there might be a chance.

When I used to shoot IPSC I heard a lot of guys tell the new guys to "Crawl, Walk, then Run" Try to go too fast and all you do is make a bunch of noise without hitting anything. I have heard military types refer to it as focusing on the 25 meter target. This is the plan TAR is following and one I think would hold mens pro pool in general in good stead. I agree that pool must have its own house in order before any serious money will even look at the game. How to do that I have no clue but we at TAR are willing to listen to anyone and will do our best to help the game.

The idea for King of the hill type matches is one we are doing right now. Anyone is allowed to step up and play our Champions. Here is the thing though, since we do REAL action matches with both sides putting up their own money we can not force anyone to play. If someone steps up to one of our Champions to play in the format they are on top of and the Champion chooses not to play all we can do remove them from that spot and put the next two guys in the box to determine a new top dog. Without a significant amount of outside money replacing the stake horses and players money there is no way to absolutely guarantee future matches.

Everybody has matches they would love to see. I know I do. Factor in getting players, venue, rules of the game, time and date, and most important and always the toughest, money, in one place at one time with enough lead time to promote it is a stone cold b!tch. Now try to line up 2 or 3 challengers out. We can't do it. I venture to say that without hundreds of thousands of dollars in the mix no one else can either. Besides, the only way to keep heads up matches from turning into exhibitions is to make each side post up or have so much money involved that exile would be a big enough deterrent to stop the business.

Sorry for the rambling post. We have some experience with this type of thing and I think the proposed match is a great idea and showing the characters in the game an even better one. We are working on it already but would be willing to listen to and possibly work with anyone who can help move things forward.
