Today 9-29-11

I am selling the schon that they were going on so no I don't need them anymore, I appologise for any trouble. Thanks Jim.

i think it's just screwed up when you've already made the JP in good faith that they'll pay. Perhaps it's best to get the payment upfront before you start. That'll mean i need to pay you for my set too :p

Send me some pics of the JPs that's already done and let me know what pin it's using. I'll help ya ask around here.

I don't want to take deposites or have any payment up front , but this kinda crap happens to often . I had a guy this week have me build a set with radial pin , his cue was 3/8 x 10 , and he is the 1st i can remember that offered to pay for His mistake , usually this is what you see me selling her on AZ and e-bay , somekind of screw-up . Perfectly good, but the color of wood to dark or to light or something . I do appreciate the Great people on AZ as a whole , but This kinda crap is not right . Thanks Guys for letting me vent . Jim

This is why I get payment in advance for custom orders.

I NEVER build shirts unless payment is on-hand. What am I going to do with a some other team's shirts??? I know it's a pain, but it's necessary. IMHO, you should reconsider charging up-front.

As distasteful as it is for you to ask for pre-payment on orders, IMO you should... and your customers shouldn't mind. It's not right for you be stuck, ever, when building custom orders.

I was all confused

with the email being addressed "to" jim, at first it looked like jim was buying jp's from himself.

But then i am easily confused.

I don't think it's unacceptble to ask for 50% up front.....

I was a little shocked when I didn't have to pay for my j/p's until completion...

Definitely charge up front man... at least 1/2 down.

You're building a custom item to order for a specific individual, it is very common to have to pay at least 1/2 up front for this type of thing.

Man sometimes people are hookers. Sorry to hear about this Jim. Maybe for new customers 1/2 down and repeat customers no money down for a compromise.

Jim, when you made the sets you made me and showed me pictures before payment was due it did occur to me that you have a very very trusting business model. By the way, I'm still loving them even if I don't have one of the cues they are for yet :D

The fact that people come to you asking you to use your materials and to make them something specific should allow you to charge something to cover at least part of your expenses up front.

I know in custom work customers change their minds about wanting the product or how to make the product but there should be something holding them there for that product requested.

If it's something you can move quickly then I understand you saying you don't want anything up front but if it's something more individualized you should definitely ask for something. At least at that point it's your choice as to whether to return the funds for a customer wanting to walk away or to cover the work you put in at their request. Maybe you can do a partial refund in the walk away situation if that works for you. At least with this model, you have options to cover your expenses and have limited your losses a bit. Most cue makers follow a similar business model.

Your work is definitely worth paying up front for and you're a pleasure to work with. I don't think anyone should feel they're risking their money on paying you up front.

I think this might be a fix , I have so many repeat customers , that have been wonderful to work with . But the new guys , might have to start with a 50% deposite . Hate this to happen . Thanks Jim

I can't blame you. You guys have been great to deal with in the past on my orders. I don't think people sometimes realize how lucky they are when someone does a custom request with no money down. It's a shame, but if you are losing $ on it you will have to adapt.

Kinda hard when.....

mmm. :embarrassed2:
