Fortunately, Tom was with a friend when he had the stroke, and he was close to the hospital, so he got there very quickly. However, after the first procedure to clear the clot, there was some bleeding from a hemorrhage, and secondary surgery was required. I think both the stroke and the secondary hemorrhage created issues, but I don't know the details.Hopefully, the symptoms were recoginised early enough to get him to the hosp. fast enough.
Amazing things are being accomplished nowadays in the area of stroke recovery. However, it is all dependant on how quickly the person is given medical care.
Thank you. I've shared a link to this thread with some of his close friends and family, and I know they appreciate all of the love and support.Thought and prayers to Tom and the family.
Just visited Tom, he said he's getting better ea day not worse. He can smile, his mind seems just fine, his grip on his left side is strong (he almost squeezed my hand to tighthis right arm has very limited movement but some and he's still not able to communicate clearly, hopefully he'll get through this in time. I just talked moments ago to one of my daughters 5:55 pm 11-28 who's a licensed nurse, she said if there's full recovery it will happen usually within 30 days, so by mid Dec. is what she said will tell us allot. I also asked him how the staff at the hospital was, his body language didn't seem to say it was the best, so this hopefully will give him extra nitivation to get the heck out of there even quicker
.
Hang in there Tom.
... see previous post with recent update ...Any new information on Tom's condition? I haven't had the chance to get down there to visit.
I had the opportunity to visit Tom this evening so I did, am I glad I saw his improvement first hand .
Tom was alert and was able to communicate verbally about 25% of the time, enough that I understood what he said, and he understood everything I said. He was also proud to show me he can move his right side: his toes, foot, leg and with assistance from his left hand, he was able to lift his arm over his head and stretch it out. He also is getting his grip back in his right hand.
He is in good spirits and knows he has a long way to go. I asked him if he wanted any dvds of pool matches and he said that because he can't play he may not be ready to watch them. He will get word to me if he does.
Summary: Tom is way better than the last time I saw him, which is very encouraging. He cannot wait til he is able to read this thread to "feel the love". He is very appreciative of all the support, encouragement and well wishes/prayers.
Dave
