Tom Ross medical condition

I am soooo glad to read this. Keep up the fight Tom. Thank you to Dave and Dave for the updates.

Sorry to hear about Tom Ross being in the hospital. He is a great guy and I wish him a fast and complete recovery. I am glad to say I played with Tom Ross in Denver a couple of times when I was out there working. He had these open nights at a bar and he gave free tips and was pumping up pool. Great guy and a wonderful ambassador for pool.

LORD please heal Tom Ross completely.

Hopefully, the symptoms were recoginised early enough to get him to the hosp. fast enough.
Amazing things are being accomplished nowadays in the area of stroke recovery. However, it is all dependant on how quickly the person is given medical care.

Thought and prayers to Tom and the family.

Fortunately, Tom was with a friend when he had the stroke, and he was close to the hospital, so he got there very quickly. However, after the first procedure to clear the clot, there was some bleeding from a hemorrhage, and secondary surgery was required. I think both the stroke and the secondary hemorrhage created issues, but I don't know the details.

Hopefully, Tom will continue to show improvement when he begins physical and speech therapy.

Thought and prayers to Tom and the family.
Thank you. I've shared a link to this thread with some of his close friends and family, and I know they appreciate all of the love and support.

Regards,
Dave

Just visited Tom, he said he's getting better ea day not worse. He can smile, his mind seems just fine, his grip on his left side is strong (he almost squeezed my hand to tight :) his right arm has very limited movement but some and he's still not able to communicate clearly, hopefully he'll get through this in time. I just talked moments ago to one of my daughters 5:55 pm 11-28 who's a licensed nurse, she said if there's full recovery it will happen usually within 30 days, so by mid Dec. is what she said will tell us allot. I also asked him how the staff at the hospital was, his body language didn't seem to say it was the best, so this hopefully will give him extra incentive to get the heck out of there even quicker :).
Hang in there Tom.

It's terrific to hear that Tom is doing well.
He's such a good guy, and always made me feel at home at the Skylark and Shakespears.

Best wishes to Tom and friends

Ted

Thanks for the update Bill. Nice seeing you this weekend in Fort Collins.

C'mon Tom, suck it up and get well!

Tom is truly a great guy. Can't believe that happened! ...but his zest for life and some good luck should help him get back to normal I certainly hope!

FYI, here's another update from one of Tom's Denver friends who visited yesterday:

I visited Tom today (Monday) about Noon in his new room at the hospital. He was sitting up in bed and looked comfortable and alert watching news on TV. We were able to communicate a bit and it's clear he's heading in the right direction. On Saturday morning he was not coherent and appeared frustrated and uncomfortable. Today he was more focused with his personality and mannerisms more evident. This is most welcome news. I told him I'd bring a Chicago-style Italian Beef sandwich when it is permitted. He is a remarkable guy and I suspect his continuing recovery will be along those lines.

Regards,
Dave

Any new information on Tom's condition? I haven't had the chance to get down there to visit.

Thanks, Dave

Just received some good news regarding Tom from a very good friend of his that saw him the other day, so I thought I would post what was sent to me:

"Hi Dave,

I went to see Tommy the day before yesterday. He's had significant improvements. He's talking a little better but not really to the point where you can have a conversation. He's starting to move his right hand and his elbow but his shoulder still doesn't move. He's walking around with the aid of a therapist and he was able to go up and down some stairs, with some help from a therapist, 2 times. He's now on the rehab floor and hopefully well on his was to recovery."

So happy to see there is continued improvement. As I learn more, I will continue to update you all.

Dave

I haven't been around the forum much lately and this is the first I have heard about Tom. Truly one who has dedicated a lot and gave a lot to pool.

Wishing for a speedy and full recovery.

I was just in contact with Tom last month regarding his Thursday night free clinics. He's a hometown guy who has a stellar reputation. As one who recovered from a major stroke seven years ago, I'm here to tell him that he can do it, too. Lucky for me, my home table has helped immensely with my recovery. My game itself remains stuck in low gear, but it's fun and endlessly challenging to improve.

I am so sorry to here this. It seems he is getting better. Tom was one of the first endorsers of my Stroketrainer and was really a believer in it. He seemed like a great guy. I spoke with him quite often and I was always getting great praises from about it. I sure hope he gets better and gets back to teaching. He will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I will certainly Tom in my prayers. Stroke can be very devastating,
we now have programs that can rehabilitate someone to their
Condition before the stroke. I hope Tom is able to participate in this type of therapy.

I had the opportunity to visit Tom this evening so I did, am I glad I saw his improvement first hand .

Tom was alert and was able to communicate verbally about 25% of the time, enough that I understood what he said, and he understood everything I said. He was also proud to show me he can move his right side: his toes, foot, leg and with assistance from his left hand, he was able to lift his arm over his head and stretch it out. He also is getting his grip back in his right hand.

He is in good spirits and knows he has a long way to go. I asked him if he wanted any dvds of pool matches and he said that because he can't play he may not be ready to watch them. He will get word to me if he does.

Summary: Tom is way better than the last time I saw him, which is very encouraging. He cannot wait til he is able to read this thread to "feel the love" :). He is very appreciative of all the support, encouragement and well wishes/prayers.
