It seems like there are a lot more high added $ BB tournaments around the country and more top pros flocking to them. Seems like the PPV and the gates are doing OK with them too. I think most are catering to league players because that is where the money in pool seems to be. I just wish they would stop playing so much 9-ball on them and go to 10- ball with no jump-cues and 8 ball, take what you make...no JQ's on the boxes. Johnnyt
BB's are great for players they are not accomplished enough to play on a 9 ft table. THE only reason the 'pros' play on them is for money. To think an accomplished pro level player would choose to play on a BB is ludicrous, IMO. They only do so because they are not given an option. BB tables are an American invention to make money. They are not seen in tournaments in the Philippines, China or anywhere in Europe as far as I know. Which is where pool is growing BTW... Yes I think BB's are fine in a bar BUT have no place in professional pool.. JMO!
I never said anything about getting rid of Bar Boxes. In fact, by the time my pool playing days were over, I had probably played more on 7' then the 9'. Johnnyt
I won lots of money on bar tables. There was tons of action on bar tables years ago.
Yep, a blue collar living could be made part time from late 1950's to around the late 1980's from the Northeast to the Southeast, you had to be smart and careful in a lot of the bars...mostly in the South. Johnnyt
I just think there is too much whining in pool period. If it's not the size of the table it's specialized equipment or the rules of play. Just toughen up and jump in the grease.

"As far as you know" was a good qualifier. Since what you stated is just plain not fact. In the past, many pros played many money matches on the BB. And, in Europe and China, there are many BB. Try looking up Chinese 8 ball for starters. The real money in Europe and China is on the BB.
Neil, when you say Chinese 8-Ball, are you talking about the 8-Ball variant where object balls are caromed off the cue ball? I do not know what tables are most common for that game.
But the current big-money Chinese 8-Ball tournaments are played on 4½' x 9' tables with 2 1/4" balls but snooker-type pockets. Those are the tables on which Darren Appleton won a big event in 2015 and took 3rd in 2016.
