U.S. Open Checks Bounced???

All I know after reading about all the problems with the payouts, it has left me a very bad perception of the way the Open is run and funded, and as I result, I hereby will go public with my resolve to ABSOLUTELY refuse to win any future US Open events!!

Maybe to survive just stop releasing amounts. just do % and open books. Pay all entry asap and a month to get sponsor monies etc paid. I think he does pay 100% even though it may take a month or two.

They'll have to pry the books from his cold, dead hands...

The books...LOL

SUPERSTAR...Not to nitpick, or make excuses for BB, but...wasn't there just the biggest hurricane in US history? It started before the tournament ended, rained a hell of a lot in that area over the weekend, and had been talked about by the media for days prior to that...and it's not over yet! It no doubt affected the gate...not that it's any kind of excuse.

Hey Scott,

What Barry said about the gate being low is nothing but a bold faced lie. I made the trek to the Open this year, along with a friend of mine, and anyone who is there will tell you that it's utter bullshit. Every single VIP seat was sold, in fact there were so many sold that they had to rearrange the seats for the last few days to squeeze people in between tables. Barry even went on the mic himself and apologized for there not being seats for the general admission ticket holders, and said that even him and his daughter did not have seats.

In fact there were so many VIP and general admission tickets sold that Barry had to unexpectedly bring in projectors and screens so people on the non-TV side of the room could still see the match. AND if that wasn't enough, I believe for the final Barry setup a screen in one of the other rooms and even charged another $5/head to see it.

Let me get back to the main TV room, there wasn't an empty seat in the house for the finals. It was so jammed packed in there, and the seats were so poorly laid out that once you got to your seat you were there for the duration. Getting out of those seats literally required everyone between you and the door to get up, and possibly also move towards the aisle to make room and get out. Some larger people actually couldn't fit between the the table edge and the back wall, so they had to sit in a corner. Each section only had one stair case going to it, so people actually resorted to climbing up the back of the stands (~10 ft) to get in and out. A lot of people had to walk on top of seats to get through, because the seats were packed so tight they couldn't move forwards or backwards. If there was ever a fire in that building people would've died for sure. I'm sure if anyone ever wanted to shut down the US open a call to the fire marshal would've done the trick.

Suffice to say, blaming the lack of funds on the "poor gate" is nothing but an outrageous lie.

I was there. The hurricane did not come in before the tournament ended on Saturday night. There were good crowds during the last three days, maybe 500 or more spectators total in the two main rooms each night. I left early Sunday morning and the airport was still open and the storm was not expected until late that night or early Monday. It was only a light drizzle when I left.

I was there from day one and I can tell you for a fact that all those people you saw in the VIP seats were mostly General Admission people. We had no place to sit except in VIP therefore unless someone told us to move, we remained there until we wanted to, or the true seat holder appeared. Barry definitely lost money on this one, and that's a fact Jack.!.

After reading almost all the posts, I believe something good can happen and be learned from this ordeal. The first pro tournament that I ever played in was the 2001 US Open and I will never forget that moment thanks to Barry. I have played several times since. I do believe the US Open is a little tough for one to run. Would like to see all these promoters put their heads together get along and make more and bigger events happen. Anyone that is smart enough to get sometimes 250 plus players to pay $500 got to be doing something right. I do believe Barry Berhman and Mark Griffin can make things happen if they work together.

Well hell, Jay & MF! I wasn't there, and you guys were, so to heck with what I said. Let's string 'im up! LOL

Bernie Madoff was smart.

Everyone keeps saying that in past years everyone got paid - I would not be so sure or that they didn't get a lesser amount. I know when the announcement came last December (2011) the venue would change my first thought (and that of others) was I guess we know who didn't get paid in 2011. I think it is time for The Fall Classic by Diamond to encompass the US DIAMOND 9 Ball Classic at a casino in Atlantic City. Also Move the HOF to another event it is getting tarnished by the US Open. I suspect there are others beside the players that are not getting paid. I know for a fact there have been in previous years and other BB sponsored events.

Prestigious event and possible dumping

Hah! The place sold out! Every seat had a VIP reservation sticker in front of it, and there was as many bloody seats as they could fit in that room. Regardless of who ended up sitting in the seats, those seats were bought and paid for. Barry himself came on the intercom and said all of the seats were sold. So I don't know how the guy sells the place out and then complains about poor attendance. Ridiculous.

And then to blame it on the hurricane, which actually is causing a lot of problems for people, is a weasely thing to do.

Like others have said in the thread, this is the same old story. I wasn't really complaining because I have learned to expect this from BB. I was really just pointing out what a load of crap it was. There is no excuse for not paying the players in a timely fashion.

I will say this.... The lobby of the hotel was completely packed with early checkouts Saturday... Everyone from out of town that could get out of dodge got out of dodge.

I also was told that there were tons of cancellations for the last 3 days because of fear of the weather from the hotel manager......

On the flip side of this is QMasters... I think Barry likely did better this year than prior years aside from the early departures... Shane's post party was pretty tame and small compared to prior years as everyone was scattering....

Barry in past events has taken money from the QMaster's till to pay out.... With a small turnout the cash available just wasn't at hand but he has said it will be in the next few weeks.....

I know no one wants to hear this but as a subcontractor I have to point it out..... I have an AR of about 60days.... I do the work and I wait on a check... I don't get covered for my expenses... I wait on them too.... I have lot's of bones to pick with Barry but as long as he pays all players in the next 30 days the players are wayyyyy ahead of the rest of us working stiffs..........

Deja Vu. Have I had this dream before? All I can say is that the US Opens I attended have always been magical and freezing in the tournament room. I went as a vendor so I have never been able to play. If I were a player and finished high then I would be very sad.

As a vendor I paid my money to attend and got my money on the spot from the customers. Barry and crew have always been fairly nice to the vendors the times I was there.

It would be a shame to see this event go away. I don't have one shred of useful advice on how to change it for the better. I guess this dance before, during and after the US OPEN 9 Ball Championship is becoming tradition as well.

i'll acquiesce on the dope, BUT, in terms of da hoes i need pics

if youre not at least 18, dont scroll down for pics of said hoes and exit this thread. . .

It is a Job

So you think it is better for no one to get paid because there is no tournament, than for a few people to get paid two weeks late because there is a tournament. hmmm.......

Neil.

So you think its better to have a Tourney with the "CHANCE" of getting paid?

All of the players incur expenses to come and put on a show for us me mortals of the game. Would you go to work with the "CHANCE" of getting paid?

They need to be treated better than Barry is treating them.

Don

Pool really needs to step up and get some target advertisers outside of the pool world.

Hope it works out for the players, tired of seeing the guys that give us the great entertainment getting screwed over and over.

The first screwing is taking some of the recorded content and plastering it all over YouTube for free so YouTube makes all the advertising revenue. Completely retarded if you ask me.
