Unbelievable Miss on the 9 ball

Jerry said the ball skidded. I didnt really see that. It looked to me like it went right where he hit it? What y'all think?

The CB hopped slightly when he struck it (maybe that's what he meant?)

It was hard to see at full speed, but if you watch the replay shortly before Drago pulls the trigger, it's in slow motion and it shows the ball skidding, imo.

nah, it didn't skid.

I think that if he left the piece of lint on the rail, that his cue would have gone straighter, and made the ball as a result.:D

Hop, jump, skid, whatever... he's human. I highly doubt the pressure got to him. The CB jumped slightly and he didn't figure that in, so he missed. I doubt Drago was waiting for him after his match looking to lock up.

You can see the 9 just SLIDING. It did not roll.
Maybe a level cue, aiming straight then pivot a little for an outside english would have been better.
New cloth, tv lights and polished balls equal more skid to me.

It is hard to see at full speed, but slow-mo + the measle ball clearly shows that the 9 is a f'ing POS!:sorry:

I'd love to miss as often as Johnny A. does. Maybe twice a year it seems. Johnnyt

In the slo-mo replay, you can see the 9-ball skid ever so slightly. It looks like a little accidental english on the cue ball threw the 9 a little when the two balls collided.

But in all honesty, skid or no skid, the effect was so minimal that it didn't matter. He missed that shot either way.

the slowmo shows the ball skidded for sure but that's what balls do when struck that way I've seen video of this phenomenon many times. It just depends on the Exact timing of how the cueball hits the object ball. If it lands on the object ball this skid will happen every time. But more likely the cue ball will bounce just before contact and no skid will occur. Johnny knows this and on this occasion just got a tiny bit unlucky IMO coupled with hitting it a little bad(as referred to earlier he is human too).

Priceless

I agree in the slow motion version you can see the cue ball hop a bit. Then when it contacts the 9 you see the 9 slid or skid a bit towards the point of the pocket causing the miss. I really like Johhny's game and felt horrible for him that he missed the shot. We all know that feeling at some point.

I will say the Charlie Manson crazy face that this miss causes Johhny to get is absolutely priceless. Sure hope he holds on for the win regardless.

When I first saw this thread, I immediately thought of the Mosconi miss by Johnny.

The miss that Steve posted was pretty sick. I hadn't seen that one before. You don't get to see God trip up very often. lol:wink:

EDIT: spelling correction

It looks to me like both balls did what would be expected for them to do when the cue ball is struck firm and with an elevated cue stick.

How you shoot this shot is determined as to how you feel that particular day. Other times you may decide to roll it with a level cue. He was just far enough off the rail that he felt comfortable hitting it the way he did with an elevated back end. IMO he just plain missed it.

English

It seems to me that whenever you hit a shot, with a very slight dog leg, using outside english. It tends to throw off a little. I like this shot with NO or a little inside english.

He clearly used outside english. It's happened to me many times!

With all due respect but inside english would be the last thing I would consider.
