UPA Pro Tour Championships

That Shane is deaf? So how could he talk on the phone? Just asking, don't want a war or nothing...

He has a special hearing aid he uses. I talk to him often on the phone.

BTW- No one has asked the obvious i don't think. How do you have a Tour Championship without a tour?

Looks like they have put together several events for this year. Check website.

Mr Schmidt,

You mentioned Shane claimed you have no heart, it appears he is correct. I would say you have no class either.

This is not the first time you've done this.

FYI, PGA players make lots of $$$, seeing as how Golf seems to impact your pool game so much, perhaps you should consider a career change.

I had to comment on this topic. John Schmidt is a great player and very rythmic with his game and his pace of play. Shane VAn Boening is rather slow if you ask me. Their styles of play drive one another crazy. The three foul move just drove John over the edge. In the 10 years I have been watching "PRO LEVEL POOL" I have never seen a "3 Foul" and John must have felt that Shane should gun him down and run out, there is only 7 balls on the table at most and "HE HAS BALL IN HAND". I would be pissed off too!

Some players are just scared of john and play scared! Some get up there and want to play mind or head games with the "VERY SLOW PLAY". When you can shoot at a pro level and then play scared or play head games is just not called for! Either you have the Billiard Balls to win or not!

John Wins Tournaments! Shane wins money sets! They both thrive in different arena's. To call john out to gamble when the man is looking for backers to do what he loves by playing and winning tournaments is just a little too out of line! He has nothing to prove. he has won his fair share of money matches and tournaments. Shane can't say that about both arena's.

Just my two cents!

Kid

I'll give you a penny for your two cents. Just kidding.
I don't share your opinion of Shanes pace or play. He is a very good methodical player, not unlike many other good players. I would never say his pace is slow. Deliberate maybe, but not slow. Probably faster than Johnny, who plays fair.

I don't know or care what happened with them 2 years ago. I'm more interested in what will happen now. They could be heading for a game and maybe not. John wants Shane to drive 80 miles to play on a table in Victorville. ???

There are perfectly good Gold Crowns available right here. They can play 15 minutes down the road. I suggest Mr. Lucky's with Ernesto 4" pockets. Maybe after the tourney and maybe not. We will see. They're talking 5K.

i would like to give my side of the story because believe me there is one to be told.first of all the reason i quit in the middle of the match with shane was an hour earlier i lost 1000 on the golf course.so now i come in to play my match with shane and he misses the 8 and 9 ball three games in a row and gets safe everytime and gets ahead of me 7-1 so i went outside to relax for a minute and out of aggravation went back to my room and watched golf .thats not to say it was the right thing to do but i was in a bad mood.it had nothing to do with shane.as for big nastys remarks i would be glad to tell you what was said.i have had close friends call me twice in the last year telling me that shane has said i have no heart, and another friend saying that he had dinner with him and a bunch of other people at the same time.my friend said to me that someone asked shane if he ever had played me and shane said something to the effect of yeah i robbed john for 2000 the one time we played.now i know for a fact that the only time ive played shane was at the usopen and he missed like six balls in five games and i quit in disgust.further more corvette mentioned that he asked meto play in atlanta.he did and you know what he asked me to play 8ahead and i said i would play a race to 21 for 3000 and he declined.now i was sick as a dog that tourney, but i did not want to say that in front of everyone because it would sound like a lame excuse. as a matter of a fact shannon daultons wonderful girlfriend marge got me a z pack of antibiotics i was so sick.now i told shane that, but i said i would still play, but instead he goes around telling everyone i wont play.well ive got some things in order in my life right now and i been practicing for almost a week now.im at the tour championships right now in cali and i have a backer in victorville .he owns a poolroom there and he told me that he will stake me ten ahead for 5000 and the locals want to bet more on me,well anyway i told jay helfort to tell shane i will play.shane is staying with jay i also told shane i would play.shanes response was ill think about it.so we willl see what happens.i do want to clear some things up though, first of all shane is a great guy and a great player and i will feel thrilled and honered if i beat him in a ten a head set.but i did tell him that he should show me some respect and quit saying i have no heart because ive played many guys even who play just like him.anyway i know that was long and drawn out but i would hope you guys give me the benefit of the doubt and dont think i call people and say hey i won the usopen respect me ,fear me,youve got to be kidding bignasty if you think i worded it like that.also you talk about respect bignasty well ill tell you what ,if shane would like to play one-hole,14.1,and say the 12ball ghost against me we can find out real quick whos the best all around player i already know i play better all around on a 9ft. so i guess we will just play a lucky game like 9ball and gamble. if he beats me playing all around i will have respect .anyway i hope that sheds some light on things and i have no hard feelings towards shane or corvette or even big nasty although bignasty does seem to be going out of his way to make me look like a jerk.talk to everybody later john schmidt

Trust me John, Shane RESPECTS your game and so do I. We talked about this match up yesterday, and I told him you were no bargain. I don't think he wants to go all the way to Victorville though. He would prefer to play right here. He NEVER said a bad word about you, only that he wants to play you. He thinks he can win, that's it.

I would like to see the game, just because I like the way you guys match up. I couldn't pick a winner between you and I plan to WATCH only, not participate. His big backer is here now at the tourney.

Corey Deuel was cruising tonight. 11-3 over Gabe Owen in easily the best performance I saw all day.

Agreed! And Charley Bryant was crushing the balls when he tromped on Thorsten. When his break is working, watch out!

Charley is in good spirits this week and has a lot of support. He will not be easy for anyone.

Is it not www.upatour.org

??

It's been "under maintenance" every time i check it. Not to mention it is a bit odd to have a "Tour Championship" before the tour but hey i am glad to see any tournament.

The class is showing up on the these tough tables. Although Johnny stumbled across the finish line. Mika looked good and so did Corey and Busty. Fabio is paying well also.

JB,

What are your thoughts on the air barrel?

Many years ago I was playing 9 ball game for money with an EX us open 9 ball champion.we were not friends but knew each other very well.I put the money in the hole and asked him to put his money down.He felt insulted. I told him that I did not give a dam for his credentials and I will play him only if he posted the money .Then he yelled at the bar tender and told him to bring some money to the table.he then posted the money and I played him.
No air barrels with me. I do n`t take the Bank checks either.I only do cash and carry buisiness.

Vagabond,
You are showing sound business sense.

I will tell you an embarrassing story. A couple of years ago, I had Grady Mathews (and Randi) visit for a lesson. As I was going to be gone to work at the time they were leaving, I gave my wife the cash to pay Grady for the lesson. I came home, and discovered my wife had pocketed the cash and given Randi a PERSONAL CHECK for the lesson. She was unaware of the "cash only" code of the road player. I was mortified, and deathly afraid that some strange occurrence would make the check bounce. After all, who wants to be mentioned in the same conversation as Ronnie Wiseman????

It's moving day at the tournament today. They are going to play down to the final four. Most guys have only played 1 or 2 matches a day till now.

Corey looks the strongest to me follwed by Franciso and Charlie Bryant. Shane played great yesterday and hopefully will keep it rolling today. To get to Sunday he has to win 5 matches today. Tough road but he has the heart to get there.

I can't emphasize enough how much trouble the guys are having on this equipment. Very tough. Definitely makes it interesting.

I had not seen Petroni play in person before and I was very impressed. He and Putnam got into a bit of a ruckus over the racking, which seems to be happening quite a lot. The tension/stress level is palpable at this tournament and I think a lot of it has to do with the tough playing conditions.

Johnny got into it with a spectator during his hill-hill win over Park, and was very agitated the whole second half of the match. He and Efren both made nice outs in the case game to win at hill-hill. Efren's break and run at 10-10 against Tang was pretty sporty, especially his thin cut on the 3, left-handed! He went four cushions around the table (short-long-short-long) for shape on the 4. Charlie Bryant's break was very strong, and he played very well to back it up. They're breaking from the box on tight pockets, and that kind of break is huge under these conditions.

Archer's match with Park took 3 hours and 12 minutes, btw!

well i cant remember EVER hearing shane talk down about you or your ability! and i have never heard him say anything about playing you for the money! anybody that reads these forums has read that we would all like to see you and shane play for the dough! several different times ive posted we would love to see that match up! as for my previous post, stated you walked out on your match with shane, you did! stated you called shane, you did! stated you mentioned a lack of respect on his part! never once has he mentioned anything but the truth about your match! you walked out disrespecting him! fact! and as for your ability as an all around player, you dont have to tell everyone your a better all around player than shane, you are a top pro! shane is an up and coming player, not a champion yet! becouse you have to beat a champion to be 1! i know i hope he gets the chance to get "lucky"against you again! this time! after all you have everything in your life straightend out, and have been playin alot getting ready for this tourny! so mr. schmidt i hope you and shane have a chance to play becouse you are surely the better player YOU have already told us that! and if by chance shane was to upset the odds on favorite, youve already mentioned that 9 ball is a "lucky" game so evan if he wins it was luck! john you are the defending us open champion at 9 ball! you must be a lucky man! well i truley wish you the best of luck at everything you do! i do hope you get to play shane! i think it will be good for his game, and maybe for yours also! you have to respect someones game that can elavate yours to its highest level! good luck Mr. Schmidt with everything you do!

I'm not going to try and take sides here for several reasons. I kind of know john schmidt from his san diego days, and he's always seemed like a stand up guy. On the other hand. What he said about shane missing five balls in six games or vice versa, whatever it was that he said, doesn't necesarily make him a worse player. It isn't necesarily luck if you miss a ball and manage to get safe. I play two and three way shots all of the time, expecially on tighter tables in case I somehow miss.

I don't know what the playing conditions were, nor do I think it matters all that much. It appears to me that both sides here are speaking somewhat truthfully, but in a way to make their side look better. I don't care one way or the other. I don't know shane so I can't speak for his character, but I haven't seen a post here by shane referencing it either.

Doubt my post means much, but I have as much a right as anyone to put my twoi cents worth into other people's business, meaning that I have no right. So why don't we all just let john and shane's business be their business.
