Us open 10ball and 8ball

I am and I highly doubt the brand of balls will determine the winner of any of the events. You're both using the same balls, same table. Just put em in the hole.

Nobody said that the balls would determine the winner... but it is possible (likely) that they will determine the outcome of a lot of matches.

Probably (likely) one of yours :-)

Good, hopefully it does. When I draw some monster first round and he's on tilt because he doesn't like the balls, I'll place them nicely in the pocket for him.

I guess I need to clarify: a little thought on CSI's part.

Lou Figueroa
got to spell
everything out
nowadays

Like I said.

I agree with you 100%.

I wasnt being a smart ass. Something clear and concise with photos and information on the balls would make a difference to some people. Its something that probably should of been done and made public through an AZ release.

In CSI's defense between dealing with a new hotel staff that is challenging to say the least, adding a professional points event and all of the other madness going on the last month or so its one of those things that got missed in the shuffle IMO.

I came across as making light of your concern about the new balls Lou and I apologize for that.

OK then, I apologize too, Justin. (AYK, generally speaking, the default position on AZ is that someone is taking a shot.)

And as you say, a little info a head of the curve would have taken care of things. And I don't care about the hotel craziness -- new hotel, that is not an unknown -- you figure that in and adjust.

Here are the balls.

I guess the same brand and style were in use in the action room at Southern Classic. So it nationals will be using the same animal.

The green ball looks like what comes out after a night of whiskey, burritos and bad decisions.

I weighed ten of the fifteen of the cyclop balls in the set. The one ball, nine ball and cue ball weighed 169 grams each. All the rest weighed 168 grams.

I weighed ten balls out of a set of Aramith Super Pro's and a red circle cue ball. The red circle weighed 168 grams and the aramith balls varied between 167 grams and 169 grams. There was a wider variance in the Super Pro's than the cyclop in the small batches I looked at. I think that variance of a gram plus or minus means nothing for either ball set but its what I saw when I weighed what what is in front of me.

They very well could suck. But it would be pretty nice to actually see how they do before grabbing the pitchforks.

They look cool
I'm not sure about the cue ball

Here are the balls.

So... The 6/14 balls are a lighter shade of green (but still green), and the 7/15 balls are light blue instead of maroon. The rest of the colors are very close to a set of traditional balls.

Personally, I don't think the new colors will be much of a problem, except maybe for the live stream commentators. :)

I suppose I could imagine a player shooting a ball out of order before getting acquainted with the new colors, but I don't think it would take too many racks to adjust. Hopefully, many of the players will have time to practice before the tournaments. At least the balls are clearly labeled with big black numbers.

On a side note, the Super Aramith Pro set that I received (with my table) from Diamond did in fact come with a red circle cue ball. I guess it's possible that someone at Diamond switched the cue ball, but it seems unlikely. Because of my video work, I almost always use the measle ball on my home table, anyway.

As for the physical properties of the new balls, I remain open-minded to the players' opinions. I'm probably not good enough to quantify any real differences.

Lou,

If you ever hear of all the 'things' that have occured in this move to a new venue - you will not believe it. I guarantee the event will be open on time and proceed like a really well run event. But to say it should not be 'unknown' - well lets just say you would be as amazed as me. And BTW - all these issues seems to cost US more money!

But the issues created by the WSOP and the intereaction between them and us is a little frightening and amusing. I am not bad mouthing anyone. But we are ready to do what we have to do. And eventually the hotel will do what they have to do.

This is learning year - next year will be a lot smoother.

But if you get a chance - ask me about it! (BTW - did you know that a lot of Vegas execs take 4 days off for July 4th!)

On the bright side, we have almost as many amateurs as last year + the juniors and more pros. So it will be a bigger event than last year.

Lots of special events: Texas Bumps ($5,000) Challenge, 6 Pocket Challenge, Predator Hi-Run Challenge.

Interesting place - this Vegas. But we are holding up pretty good.

Cyclop balls

Diamond uses the red circel ball on the Smart Table (coin operated). Most of the balls they get have a normal Saluc cue ball. They replace that ball with a red circle because that is what Dimaond uses.

They do not send out balls with a mealse ball - they are a lot more money.

At one time (maybe 5-6 years ago) Aramith would put the red circle balls in the sets for us. Not any more that I know of.

Just an FYI-

What - did I hear something??

Dear Big Tony -

I am going to be VERY busy at the upcoming event at the Rio in Las Vegas.

I believe the only way you can get me on a table is to not allow any slow playing - that means 'shut up and shoot' - now you also have to understand I might have some IMPORTANT people to talk to - so YOU might have to wait until it is your turn.

But since I know you expect to miss a lot (Sir Miss a LOT) kinda sounds cool!
I will allocate 20 minutes to play you a race to 3.

Shouldn't take any more time than that - Right!!!

Mark Griffin

Don't forget the Mark Griffin vs. Andrew Cleary 1pocket challenge!

YOU GOT ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) Race to 3 for dinner!

They look like something on a special display shelf at Bed Bath 'n' Beyond.
"Cyclop Spring 2013's are here! Buy matching towels and get FREE SHIPPING!"

It does seem wildly pessimistic to assume the balls will cut differently, or roll not in a straight line.
A lot of this stuff wouldn't come up in a blindfold pepsi challenge.

cyclop balls !!!!!

I will be wondering how they play.

If the players give it like them they will get used to the new street signs in the neighborhood.

Color scheme might be much better for the broadcast audience and those seated in the Bob Ueker section !

I kind like the colors, even though it is from the soap on a rope page !
