US Open (9 ball) 2024, August 19-24, Atlantic City

Wow, Filler breaks hooks himself on 3, sells out on safety . Viking wins rack and is at hill hill breaking. Advantage the Viking

Not sure what causes that, I've heard it was the rail cloth being too tight. Same with my table, which was done by Diamond.

Even if it does not affect the play, it looks bad.
Those are stretch shadows, caused by the cloth not being stretched exactly evenly along that side of the table. While they will not affect playability, they don't look great under the tv lights. Looking at the photo you can tell by the shadows that the right side of the table is the achor side, and the left side where the shadows are is the stretch side of the cloth install.

And what a great match Oscar just played against FSR!

... the reason for the byes was inept running of qualifiers. they should have just opened up to anybody if nothing else for optics. i don't like dead-money players but having open spots looks worse.
The qualifiers were quite disorganized and there were not enough of them. I suspect that Matchroom was confused by the huge player response to previous opens where they filled within a few hours. Qualifiers are a very different situation, and I think it's harder to make them work in the US compared to Europe. I expect to see major changes next year.

Agreed. I think this is a live and learn moment. MR has put together a coherent tour so far. Much better than anything I've seen in the past decade or two.

He's quicker and more free-wheeling than just about any top player, with a beautiful and smooth stroke.

There's almost no visible calculation to what he does, just pure experience and talent.
Yup, and he's so confident and smooth, it makes him fun to watch. Conversely, while someone may play an absolutely perfect set, if they play slow, walk around the table a few times and agonize on every shot, it can be painful to watch (despite how good they may play). I can tolerate slow in one pocket, not so much in 9 ball.

This isn't a secret. They are stretch shadows caused by uneven stretching of the cloth. This is why not just anybody can install Simonis, because if it's uneven at all this is what happens.

I'll also take flak for this but RKC's technique of pulling the side pocket cloth first, makes these stretch marks inevitable unless you are very well versed with that method.

I had one of my GCs covered by a guy who attended a training with RKC.
He and I did the bed cloth together.
It was perfection. I don't remember any stretch marks near the side pockets.
The cloth and tension was very uniform.
Whoever did that table at the Open was sloppy.

Didn’t these tables come direct from the diamond factory? It might just be the camera angle and not a sub-par install.

Chua takes down Naoyuki Oi 10-0. Fedor on the hill vs kpc. And Jefrey Roda, someone I'd never heard of before this tournament, takes down Zielinski 10-2. That guy has to be the story of the tournament so far.

and naoyuki looked strong this tournament. probably a decent number of BNR's by chua
