US Open (9 ball) 2024, August 19-24, Atlantic City

A chess clock style shot clock might be good for 9-ball:

Give both players 3 minutes per frame, which keeps ticking down whenever they are at the table. once that 3 minutes is up, every shot afterwards will be on a 15 second shot clock. This could result in faster matches than the typical 30 second shot clock with one extension, while also allowing longer thinking for critical shots.

For example, if you pot one ball on the break and continue to break and run from there with avg. 20 seconds per shot, you'd still have 20 seconds left on the clock by the end of your run. But if you play slower, or there's safety exchanges, you'd eventually have to shoot the rest of your shots in max 15 seconds each, speeding up the game and making those 10-15min frames less likely.
If you're going to talk about POOL use POOL terms. A game is a RACK not a frame. You POCKET a ball not pot it. Keep the euroweenie snooker terms in snooker. ;)

as for the hand sweat argument, there are antiperspirants for that. and gloves - bring more than one glove if that's the problem.
I very respectfully disagree. :) This is a medical condition, and antiperspirants won't work. I know a pro who has diabetes and has had to leave a match because he felt faint and had to either get orange juice or an injection. I know of another pro who has bipolar disorder, and he/she is unable to take medicine for it because it affects their caliber of play, but it results in unexpected emotional outbursts.

The point, I guess, is that this was not a shark move, which is what was insinuated by others. If a medical condition prevents a player from competing on a professional level adhering to the tournament rules, then it is what it is. But sometimes there is no remedy for a medical condition that will suffice enough to allow the player to not experience the symptoms when in combat.

Tyler and Wolford are out and Billy Thorpe looks set to join them.

Those last 2 spots for Team USA are a concern.

I think you have to pick Oscar as he is capable of playing well.

I would then pick somebody like Hunter Lombardo. Time to give somebody else a chance, Tyler keeps failing in the MC.
Hasn't Tyler had a better overall record at Mosconi than most?

Whiny baby BJ strikes again, way to ensure you never feature in a Mosconi... Wouldn't expect anything less from a guy who genuinely believes the Earth is flat.

BJ should have went and got lunch and taken a nice long bathroom break at some point.

If I'm playing a race to 9 and we get to the 2.5 hour mark, I might go up to my room and grab my pillow and blanket for effect.

I'll never understand why it is accepted that these tournaments have a "special" table that operates under different constraints/conditions than the other tables. Only having a time clock in effect and/or different pocket sizes on a single table. What other sport has one particular match that is played on different conditions than all of the other ones? Put them all on a time clock, or none of them, ditto with the pocket sizes.

If JJ can only play incredibly slow, he would have been out far sooner had he been playing under a time clock.

Tennis? Wimbledon has a couple of courts that can close the roof- makes the courts play different

That can be compared to humidity/lighting affecting the table play, not really unusual. Although I believe other billiard sports like 3c heat the tables to help that.

Terrible tournament direction. I'm not even sure if every match needs it. Having a time limit like 1.5 hours and then a shot clock. Something to keep it moving and not allowing several breaks during the match. Makes no sense.

It is a condition that is triggered/made worse by anxiety, and the guy is following him around during breaks to see if he is going to the bathroom or not? I think it was BJ sharking, not Jeremy.
Reasonable, no moreso than bj was wondering wtf he was doing, aside from Michael Wongin.

I usually ask someone else to provide Intel.

don't think the specs are different and in this tournament the main table has gotten continual play so it can't be much faster, cloth wise.

big ko is brutalizing albin, 7-0 already

Not saying your complaint is not valid, but that would be multiple sports. Baseball and football come to mind. Hypothetically: Denver playing Buffalo AT Buffalo in winter weather in the NFL playoffs, vs., say, Houston and the Chargers playing under a roof the same weekend.
